Trap Music

Trap Music is roughly equivalent to the screams of Rotom-W's when they realize they can't do anything except struggle in the face of Infestation Gastrodon. In short it sounds awful, but it makes for a good game of Pokemon. After I was tipped off about the potential synergy between Wobbuffet and Mega Lucario, where Wobbuffet Encore-Traps an opposing Pokemon into a useless move and gives Mega Lucario a turn to set up with Nasty Plot in order to sweep the opponent's team. After some testing with these two using Gyarados as a third member of the core in order to cover Luc's weaknesses, I discovered the amazingness that is Gastrodon, who absolutely devastates a team not prepared for him. It needs some work for sure, but the war engine that is the Wobbuffet-MLucario-Gastrodon core is incredible once it gets going.

Trap Artist (Wobbuffet) @ Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Def
Calm Nature
- Counter
- Safeguard
- Encore
- Mirror Coat
The star of the team, and the very definition of a glass canon. His 190 base HP seems impressive, but his terrible defenses mean he won't be around for along if switched into heavy hitters like Garchomp. But against anything that can't 2hko him, spikes users, weather-setters not named tyrannitar, and anything scarfed he shines. He's good at revenge killing, encore-trapping and general team-playing. By himself he's nothing special, but with a specialized team to support and to support him he's a complete nightmare. When a game is going well he can generally net at least one kill, an assist or two, and some supporting damage.

lucario.png

Rigby (Lucario) @ Lucarionite
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aura Sphere
- Flash Cannon
- Dark Pulse
- Nasty Plot
The sweeper. After a nasty plot Mega-Lucario can OHKO or 2HKO anything not named Blissey. He's very frail though, and while his 1/4x resistance to stealth rocks means entry hazards generally aren't a concern, he's lucky if he can take more than one hit. Talonflame ruins him, as do most things faster than him, especially since this build doesn't have priority. He has an amazing movepool but one of the worst cases of 4mss I've ever seen. Priority seems like a good idea but I'm not sure what to replace it with. Between Aura Sphere, Flash Cannon and Dark Pulse he basically always hits for neutral damage, though I'll admit Dark Pulse is mostly for aegislash, who otherwise walls him pretty hard. Once priority users and certain fast pokemon or very bulky pokemon are taken care of, he's basically garuanteed a sweep.

gyarados.png

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 88 HP / 248 Atk / 4 Def / 168 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Earthquake
When Wobbuffet nets a successful encore but it's too early in the game to call in lucario, it's time for Gyarados to shine. With intimidate he works as a nice check to talonflame, and after a dragon dance he's a pretty significant threat. Sadly he's not without his flaws, SR weakness significantly cuts down on his bulk and Rotom-W, possibly the most common pokemon in OU at the moment. Gastrodon makes a good partner to him since it covers both of his weaknesses handily, and is also a solid counter for the most common Rotom-W builds, but it doesn't change the fact that Gyarados has to retreat with it's tail between its also tail (he's basically all tail) whenever Rotom makes an appearance, significantly cutting down it's momentum. I'm currently considering some sort of replacement since the rotom weakness makes him basically the weakest member of the team, though I will admit intimidate+ his defensive typing make him valuable in a pinch. In addition, he makes great bait.

gastrodon-west.png

Tricks (Gastrodon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Infestation
- Scald
- Recover
Simply flawless. Like an actual predatory mollusks this pink beauty is specialized at trapping and dissolving its prey into a nutritious ooze. Barely cares about burn, immune to the most frequent form of paralysis and bulky enough to shrug off most beatings, Gastrodon's theoretically less than impressive stats are far more impressive in execution. If this current team doesn't work out I'm considering building a toxic-stall sand team using him in coordination with T-tar and Mandibuzz. Fears Freeze-Dry, Grass attacks and basically nothing else. He's an excellent pivot and if given even a turn to unleash infestation, a highly specialized rotom-w killer.

crobat.png

The Big Man (Crobat) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Defog
- Taunt
- Brave Bird
- Super Fang
My specialized rock-eater/anti lead. Crobat shuts down any Scoliopede or Smeargle foolish enough to stop it. He is also my only current clefable and mega-gengar counter. His job is to eliminate pokemon with subs, defog and once his job is done to assassinate any fast pokemon which could potentially threaten Luc. He is by no means frail, and sponges crucial fighting and grass type hits excellently, but he's not the type to stick around for a while.

rotom-wash.png

Shenanigans (Rotom-Wash) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 232 HP / 56 SAtk / 220 Spd
Modest Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
Mandatory Rotom-W, I feel weird giving this guy even three lines since his role is so obvious. Softens up threatening physical attackers with will-o-wisp, annoys, coutners talonflame, the works. Currently my only talonflame counter.
THREATS:
-Mega-Kangaskhan: If I see the opponent has Mega-Kang on their team, sometimes I'll quit on the spot if other members of their team are also big threats. Mega-Kang is simply too strong. There is absolutely no way he won't be Ubers.
-Azumarill: Aside from Rotom-W I have nothing on my team that can hit him for SE. Gyarados can generally slow him down but he's still just a huge threat.
-Clefable: This team moves fairly slowly, and frankly nothing on it can do much against Clefable with Unaware.
-Aegislash: If it gets in a swords dance, it's game over.

Problems:
-This team doesn't have a large variety of attacking types, which means sometimes it runs into trouble. It's also a weird mix between bulky offense and stall that would probably benefit from committing a little more to one or the other. I'm considering running Trevenant/Gourgeist over Rotom-W, Mandibuzz/Skarmory over Crobat and Heatran/Landorus-T over Gyarados. Any hope would be a real help (especially since I was testing out the toxic-stall team while writing this and it wasn't going well).

God I love you. Words don't explain how much this team makes me happy. Wobbuffet may benefit from having Destiny Bond once you realize his time is up. (if only this guy had wish...). If you aren't going Mega Gyarados, having a SubSet may be a better choice. Other than that, using T-Tar may be a good idea, since I feel as though he has great synergy with good 'ol Gasty, and is the best Special Wall, and it seems Special Sweepers check you. Mandabuzz could be a great addition. Also, I feel as though you need to replace Rotom. He just seems like an awkward part of your team that you didn't really want or need.

Anyways, good luck using this team, hope it goes well :D
