Trick Room! :D

Okay, so I've been in love with Trick Room ever since its inception. I feel it just mixes things up when you're so used to seeing the same standard sweepers mauling everything in sight.

So, let's begin! Keep in mind, when I started building this team, I only had one Pokemon in mind, and that's just because I've always loved it, but never really had a spot for it. :(

And that Pokemon is...

:D!
Dusknoir @Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 ATK/4 DEF
Brave Nature (+ATK, -SPD)
-Trick Room
-Shadow Sneak
-Earthquake
-Ice Punch

One of my favorite Pokemon. It has a really beast design, awesome base defences, a useable base attack, and a good defensive typing. Now, he won't be leading my team, but he's bulky enough to get that Trick Room out if I can force a switch-out or manage to get him out in any other advantageous Trick Room scenario. Shadow Sneak for priority STAB. Earthquake to hit hard neutrally on a lot of things, also taking care of Heatran and more of his like. Ice Punch for that pesky Gliscor and good coverage on dragons.

So that takes me to my next Pokemon... this Pokemon works oddly on this team, but, it works sooo well. Credits to ThePillsburyDoughBoy for teaching me its Trick Room uses!

Whimsicott (F) @Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP/4 SDEF/252 SPD
Jolly Nature (+SPD, -SATK)
-Taunt
-U-Turn
-Trick Room
-Encore

As TPDB showed me, this little gal is a gem. Prankster is a beasty ability, that's for sure. Priority Taunt and Encore? Yes please! If used correctly, Taunt/Encore can tear up any support/sweeper respectively. TPDB probably explains U-Turn's usage better than I, but for simplicity's sake, I'm just going to highlight its usefulness. Other than its obvious scouting uses, it can be used to tank a status-inducer or even a normal attack while under Trick Room so that the incoming Pokemon can renew Trick Room or even attempt a sweep thanks to Whimsicott's overwhelming speed. All of that on top of Whimsicott being in my top three favorites of Black and White add for a great addition to my team. :D

The next Pokemon I'm going to highlight is another of my all-time favorites! A Trick Room sweeper who can take a decent number of hits outside of Trick Room if played correctly sounds nice, right? So, without further ado, I reveal...

149.png

Dragonite (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Brick Break
- Draco Meteor
- ExtremeSpeed
- Fire Blast

Oh. My. God. Dragonite can rip teams apart if they let him, he's just super strong and has a lot of coverage. Lack of speed doesn't even bother him outside of Trick Room since he's really bulky, and ExtremeSpeed gives him the priority that he needs when he needs it. Pretty freakin' boss Pokemon in general.

The next Pokemon on this team is my second favorite legendary. (See where this is going? ;D)

Cresselia (F) @Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 DEF/252 SATK/4 SDEF
Sassy Nature (+SDEF, -SPD)
-Trick Room
-Lunar Dance
-Psychic
-Magic Coat

Okay, so trying to find Cresselia's role was a bit tough. I wanted to make it be able to get Trick Room out, but be able to support the team a little while staying alive. Lunar Dance is for when a teammate more important is in critical condition and I need it on the field ASAP. Psychic is a reliable STAB so I'm not Taunt bait. And Magic Coat is to reflect opposing status/field effects like Toxic and Stealth Rock. I think the EV spread and nature just keep it relatively bulky while being able to get off a Psychic when needed.

The next Pokemon on my list is another of my favorites from Unova! :D

579.png

Reuniclus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 SDef
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Shadow Ball
- Psyshock
- Recover
- Calm Mind

If my opponent lets me get in two Calm Minds, the game is over for the most part. This Reuniclus in particular dropped a Latios with Psyshock after only three Calm Minds. It was intense. (Before I put Shadow Ball on it) Shadow Ball is for coverage, and Recover is just really nice to have on something this slow and frail, especially if Trick Room isn't up.

Last, but, surely not least is my freakin' tank...

423.png

Gastrodon (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Storm Drain
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SAtk / 156 SDef
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover

Gastrodon was probably the best addition to my team. It walls LOADS of 'mons, and whenever I switch into a water attack, its Ice Beam and Scald just tear kids up. Toxic and Recover are a really nice combo, since I can just stall if I really need to. All-in-all, Gastrodon is a monster.

So, hate, rate, just be constructive. This is my first RMT thread and I'd like ways to improve on my existing 'mons. If you feel that I need to absolutely, 100%, swap out one of them, put in a constructive manner and I'll consider it. Thanks for reading!

To be honest, I recommend you to have at least SOMETHING that can at least do good without TR. otherwise, in this fast-paced meta, all your slow pokes will fall without TR

hp fighting provides more coverage instead of hp earth for chandelure. i'm not sure about the evs spread of cresselia, i suggest you to run a bulkier spread like 252 hp 92 spdef 164 def or something similar, changin magic coat with ice beam. vaporeon is almost useless like a sweeper i think, you have got also chandelure in this role. conkeldurr and reuniclus can do the work better, you can keep vaporeon like a phisical wall or something similar but not like a special sweeper, also if bold reuniclus works really better in TR, you can try this version of reuniclus, the movesets are on the site. good luck

Okay, ran HP-fighting on Chandelure... got WRECKED by Heatran. Going back to ground on that one. And as for Vaporeon... I'm lost as to what its role should be. It got a few nice surprise kills as a sweeper, but that's about it. And as a straight-up support bulky water, it wasn't meshing with my team. Idk :x

Hmm, I'm thinking about swapping out a Gastrodon of sorts for my bulky Vaporeon and seeing how that goes, I'll update the main thread if it works out at all.

atm i don't see something that can really stop rotom-w. swampert/gastrodon and abomasnow can wall and ko him well i think

yeah rotom -W / scizor volt-turn spam is trick room's worst nightmare , it's the reason i don't play my TR anymore :( .

how to fix it ?! hm well trying celebi should work but again , in rain scizor can come without any fear ..

for your team i think you lack power , all your sweepers are easily walled by common played mon , metagross is like walled by half the meta , cresselia is just sitting there and chandelure is meh , too frail and doesn't break through special walls .

try more powerful sweepers , like dragonite or tyranitar , they'r great :)

Hmm, Gastrodon did the trick on Rotom, but yeah, I'm generally lacking power. :x I think I'll give Dragonite a run if I can find a suitable set.

go with a mixed set , works great .. specially since dragonite lure steel mons like skarmory and ferro , you can then nail them with a fire blast , or ohko gliscor with a Draco meteor .

this way you'll have an easier time sweeping with metagross ,if you insist on keeping him ^^

the set i use is DM / fire blast / superpower / extremspd .

superpower because baloon heatran is such a bitch , and no one expect it on nite anyway , you'll lose multiscale but you'll be using LO and you don't have a spinner anyway .

extremspd is nice since you can RK some troublesome things outside of TR , but you can play roost if you want .

yes the mixed set is perfect, if you want to keep multiscale brick break is the only alternative on superpower but the power decrease is notable. mild/naive nature are the best I think

I do enjoy Dragonite over Chandelure, seems to be getting me more wins, same with Gastrodon over Vaporeon. But I'm lacking something... I dunno what

Ahh, crap, with Chandelure gone, Gastrodon and Quagsire completely wall me if Dragonite is off the field. Chandelure would get the surprise KO with Energy Ball. :x

I also found that Psyshock coupled with Reuniclus's overwhelming SATK, Magic Guard, and Life Orb does a lot of Metagross's wallbreaking, just not as potently, but enough to pass by :D

yes, psyshock also hits hard blissey and special walls. you can try this set:
reuniclus @life orb
quiet
252 hp 252 spA 4 spD
calm mind
psyshock
energy ball/hp fire/focus blast
shadow ball

Hmm, I haven't ran into a need for Shadow Ball yet at all recently, so I think I might sub it out for Recover so it can survive outside of TR.

psyshock+shadow ball is a perfect coverage, but if you don't want to keep shadow ball i suggest you to keep hp fire or you are walled completely by scizor or ferrothorn

i really like the cotton guy idea that was just flat out smart at first i had to a double take then i thought about it and its really good idea, you could also try snorlax with curse

Want to try giving your Whimscott a Relaxed (+Def, -Spe) or Sassy (+SpD, -Spe) nature? Since your using Trick Room and Whimscott has priority over half its moves might as well make Whimscott slow as possible and take that oppurtunity to boost its other stats right?

The speed boost from its nature makes it my slowest Pokemon under Trick Room, yet my fastest under normal conditions. It's only been hit by a lead once, so it's pretty fast :p I have been thinking about trying to get a Snorlax on my team, Haxtwo, that, and possibly a Tangrowth. There are so many ways to play Trick Room.

Cool Trick Room team, love that style, though I never seem to get it right :)

So first things first you have no dragon resists ;) In todays metagame that is very needed. Luckily there is a perfect steel type pokemon who fits on trick room teams. I would suggest running Bronzong over Cresselia, the set I would suggest:

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
- Trick Room
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion

Bronzong will help you deal with the myriad of dragons who dwell in our OU metagame. Between Latios, Haxorus and Dragonite every team needs a dragon check. Trick Room is obvious, Gyro Ball can be a very powerful Stab to take out numerous faster threats. Your team will really benefit from Stealth Rock support(Trick Room tends to force a lot of switches), especially Reuniclus and Dragonite. Explosion is a fun choice because it can be used as a last ditch effort to take out a troublesome poke' and can used to safely bring in one of your TR sweepers.

The next thing is that your Reuniclus seems to be a bit confused; it has parts of the TR sweeper mixed in with it's Calm Mind set. I highly suggest running the All out Trick Room Sweeper set for Reuniclus. The set is:

Reuniclus (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 176 HP / 80 Def / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spe)
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

This set tears through teams and paired with your Dragonite I think you'll be much more successful. It still has a fair share of bulk(in order to set up TR) but it also uses its coverage to man handle teams.

The last suggestion I have is a fairly open one. Your team still has trouble doing damage outside of Trick Room, and you can't just assume it will always be up. So I suggest you run a Sword Dance Scizor over either Gastrodon or Dusknoir. Using it over Dusknoir means that only two of your pokemon can set up Trick Room; but Gastrodon your team may become much weaker to Drizzle teams. The set is question is this:

Scizor (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Atk
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spe)
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Superpower

This poke can help check a huge number of problematic pokemon; such as Terrakion, Haxorus, Salamence etc; outside Trick Room and is one of the most fearsome sweepers ever inside of it. He uses Bullet Punch to check those threats but can also set up a Swords Dance and sweep.

I hope you give these changes a try, Good Luck!

Hmm, I like the Bronzong idea, I think I'll give him a shot. I'm not really a fan of using legendaries anyway, Cressalia just seemed to fit the team well. As for Scizor, I'll run him over Dusknoir a few times to test him out, but I dunno, Dusknoir does his job pretty well. But I will for sure be trying him out!
