XY Ubers Trick Room Offense Team (Last peaked at 1503)

This is my first RMT as well as my first trick room team I have built. My ladder rating started to drop quickly after peaking at 1503 (Now my rating is about 1400). My current GXE is 75. All criticisms and suggestions for improvement to my Trick Room team would be greatly appreciated. It would also be great to have suggestions about the HP EVs as I'm still quite unclear about the Stealth Rock / Leftovers magic number.

Deoxys-Defense @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Magic Coat
- Stealth Rock
- Trick Room
- Knock Off
It is my (suicide) lead Pokemon most of the time. I choose Deoxys-D to be my Trick Room setter (Tricker) as it has superb defenses and has access to Stealth Rock. If needed, Magic Coat is first used to repel statuses and Taunt, which is especially useful as it allows me to set up Trick Room and Stealth Rock easily. Knock Off ensures that Deoxys-D is not completely vulnerable to Taunt. The EV spread aims to strike a balance between both defense stats and ensures that at full HP, Deoxys-D survives a Water Spout by a scarfed Kyogre at full HP and a Moonblast by Geomancy-ed Xerneas. I'm still unsure if it should have 0 Attack IV to minimise Foul Play damage.

Dialga @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature (Modest?)
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Thunder
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor / Roar
I chose Dialga to be my 2nd Tricker as it has good typing and good bulk. Its steel typing also helps to check Toxic users. Thunder and Fire Blast provides good coverage. I'm still unsure about the last moveslot. Draco Meteor dishes out higher damage, but it's only super effective against Dragons and the reduction in Sp Att could force a switch out, wasting a Trick Room turn. Roar negates stat increases, which can be useful sometimes especially against Calm Mind Arceus and Geo-Xerneas(Dragon Tail is useless against Xerneas). I chose Calm over Modest as Dialga is not my main attacker and to resist Water Spout better. A Fire Blast by a Calm Dialga can still OHKO Pokemon like Mega-Scizor (but sadly not against full-HP Sassy Ferrothorn).

In addition, both Deoxys-D and Dialga have Pressure, which is especially useful in stalling low-PP moves like Aeroblast and Water Spout.

Arceus @ Pixie Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Judgment
- Defog / Calm Mind
With Will-O-Wisp and maximum investment in Defense, Arceus-Fairy mainly serves to check physical attackers and Dragons too. I don't think Arceus-Fairy fares well as a Tricker since its Speed stat is naturally high. I'm unsure about its last moveslot. Defog helps to clear Spikes layers (My Pokemon are not weak to Stealth Rock so it's still ok), while Calm Mind boosts his overall bulk and allows him to function as a late-game sweeper. I still run 31 Speed IV so Arceus-Fairy is not too dependent on Trick Room and also helps him to tackle slower Pokemon when TR is not set up.

Kyogre @ Choice Specs
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk (0 Speed?)
- Water Spout
- Thunder
- Ice Beam
- Surf
My main Special sweeper with the standard offensive moveset. Needless to say, a slow Specs Kyogre under Trick Room can cause massive damage with its ridiculous Water Spout. I'm not sure whether I should have 0 Speed IVs though, for it leaves Kyogre very dependent on Trick Room to cause huge damage. 31 Speed IVs also ensure Kyogre has a chance in winning speed ties if Trick Room is not set up. Overall, a pretty self-explanatory set, I think.

Mewtwo @ Mewtwonite X
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Drain Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch
My 2nd Physical sweeper and 3rd Tricker. Mewtwo X helps to check Steel and Dark type Pokemon. As Mewtwo X is quite fragile, Drain Punch is hence chosen over Low Kick to maintain vitality. Zen Headbutt utilises STAB and checks Poison-type Pokemon, and Ice Punch checks Dragons and Ground-type Pokemon like Landorus-T (but it is not a very good check against Groudon though). Its typing ensures that it can survive one Dark Pulse from Darkrai/Yveltal, as well as a U-turn from Genesect. There is also a small element of surprise since it is quite unusual for a naturally fast Mewtwo to run Trick Room.

Groudon @ Life Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Smack Down (Yes, I know this move is a joke)
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
My main Physical attacker. It's typing checks Zekrom and T-Wave users. Swords Dance increases power and is best used when the opponent makes a switch. Smack Down is chosen over Stone Edge due to its higher accuracy, PP, and its ability to remove Ground immunity. Smack Down has a 56.3% chance to OHKO Ho-oh (252+ Atk Life Orb Groudon Smack Down vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Ho-Oh: 380-452 (91.5 - 108.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO), while Smack Down + Earthquake against initially full-HP Lugia dishes more damage than Stone Edge. Should Lugia use Roost first, the effectiveness of Stone Edge is nullified. Fire Punch rounds up Groudon's overall coverage.

Proof:

252+ Atk Life Orb Groudon Smack Down vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Multiscale Lugia: 52-62 (12.5 - 14.9%) -> Lugia is at full HP
252+ Atk Life Orb Groudon Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Lugia: 156-185 (37.5 - 44.5%) -> Lugia is NOT at full HP
252+ Atk Life Orb Groudon Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Multiscale Lugia: 104-123 (25 - 29.6%) -> Lugia is at full HP

Potential Threats
  • My team can provide chances for Mega Kangaskhan to use Power-up Punch.
  • My team is vulnerable to 3 Spikes layers if Arceus-Fairy does not run Defog.
  • Also vulnerable to statuses like Burn or Toxic as the game progresses.
  • Weak to Geo-Xerneas if Trick Room is not set up.
  • Shaymin-Sky can unleash continuous Air Slash, preventing me from setting up TR. It is also bad since none of my Pokemon outspeed Shaymin-S without TR.
  • If Darkrai is not put to sleep by Magic Coat, it means one of my Pokemon will have to be put to sleep, effectively shutting it down. (But I don't think it's a major threat.)
  • Ho-oh also causes huge damage to my team. Only Arceus-Fairy can resist Ho-oh effectively, but Ho-oh cannot be burnt. Brave Bird causes huge damage to Kyogre (OHKO Mewtwo-X), uses Groudon's Drought to unleash powerful Sacred Fires.
Erratum
The word Offense should be replaced by Balance

Hello there, welcome to Smogon :]

The team, at a glance doesn't look atrocious, however, I don't have time for a full rate. Instead, I will for now suggest changing (and thus, optimizing) your Arceus EVs to this:

Arceus @ Pixie Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 248 HP / 164 Def / 96 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Judgment
- Defog

This set allows you to outspeed all 100 Base Speed threats even when Timid, while still retaining a very substantial amount of bulk.

Oh, and please use Low Kick > Drain Punch on MMX. And don't use Arceus-Fairy as a Ho-oh check, as the closest thing you have to a Ho-oh check is Dialga. (Under sun, however, this team seems easily roasted.)

Good luck!

P.S.
Fear not, as Haxiom or edgrr or someone else half-decent at rating teams should be here soon :]

Hi GRB1, thanks for the suggestion. Will change accordingly.

Any more suggestions or advice to improve my TR team? Would like to hear more views. :-)
