Hi everyone, the purpose of this team was to win a bet with a friend of mine that I could beat his fully EV-trained team with superior tactics. He didn't say anything restricting me from using Smogon for help!
We have no true established rules for Pokemon usage - he is using Victini, but I have personally restricted myself to one starter and no legendary or pseudo-legendary pokes.
Left/Right - Whimsicott @ Focus Sash
Ability: Prankster
- Tailwind
- U-Turn
- Toxic
- Grass Knot
Whimsicott is one of my least favorite Pokemon, so I decided: why not make this Pokemon as annoying as possible? I originally intended to use Substitute instead of Toxic, but found that Whimsicott could not last long enough to be truly effective. With this moveset, I use Tailwind, U-Turn to Umbreon, and can keep him in the back of the lineup to prevent Ground or Water sweepers.
Middle - Mr. Mime @ Focus Sash
Ability: Filter
- Wide Guard
- Teeter Dance
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
My first three Pokemon are truly a complete contrast to my final three, they would all be easy 1HKOs without a good Focus Sash. Mr. Mime uses Wide Guard in the first turn for two reasons - first, to reduce the chance of the Focus Sash being overridden, and second, to give the other two pokes a chance to establish a substitute and/or switch out before using Teeter Dance. If there doesn't appear to be a threat of a Rock Slide, Earthquake, etc, I go ahead with Psychic or Thunderbolt.
Left/Right - Ambipom @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Technician
- Fake Out
- Protect
- Double Hit
- Taunt
First of all, I considered giving Ambipom a Choice Scarf, but with Teeter Dance in play I backed off of that plan. Second, I never realized how much of a BAMF this guy really is with Double Hit. I drool at its potential when fully EV trained for Attack..
Umbreon @ Persim Berry
Ability: Synchronize
- Mean Look
- Attract
- Moonlight
- Sucker Punch
I trained this badass in Diamond to teach him Sucker Punch before trading him up to Black. Sucker Punch is really just there to annoy him (I notoriously find a way to sneak it into every lineup.) Mean Look, Attract, Moonlight, repeat. Unfortunately, Umbreon is very vulnerable to Toxic and Curse.
Infernape @ Expert Belt
Ability: Blaze
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Overheat
- Rock Slide
This is not a Pokemon specific to this team, he is a holdover from my first playthrough of Diamond. I know he has a Ferrothorn and potentially a Blissey, making Infernape all but essential.
Lanturn @ Ice Gem
Ability: Shock Absorb
- Ice Beam
- Discharge
- Brine
- Thunderbolt
Purely here for type coverage, I've considered replacing Discharge or Thunderbolt but I cannot think of a stronger alternative.
