Tropicana
(An OU sunny day RMT)

Let me get to the point. I’m a weatherman (seriously I’m not joking). I’ve been playing with weather teams for a good year now. I have a sandstorm team, a rain dance team, and even a hail team. So all I was missing was some sun, so I decided on building an OU sunny day team. This is my first attempt at some tropical sun.

THE LEAD

Crobat (Batman)
Item: Heat rock
Nature: Jolly
Evs: 158 HP /98 Atk / 252 Spe

-brave bird
-U-turn
-Taunt
-Sunny Day

I usually run this same crobat on my rain dance team, and it works about the same for my Sunny day. I taunt the other lead, set up sun, and then u-turn out of there. I can usually bring this back in after the sun fades for another 8 glorious turns of sun. Brave bird is nice to scare of those breloom that can sometimes give me some problems. Now you may be wondering about the ev spread, and why I didn’t keep the standard Weather Bat with: 104 HP / 152 Atk / 252 Spe. I found the attack evs to be redundant and since I needed the bulk I decided to put some more evs in HP. I’ve tried Bronzong, and sunny day didn’t go to well with his fire weakness, and I’ve also tried Uxie. The problem with Uxie is that it gets taunted to much, so that leaves Crobat as the best lead I have. Also taunt becomes pretty valuable to my Executor.

SUNNY DAY SWEEPERS

Executor (Eggs)
Item: Focus sash
Nature: Modest
Evs: 252 sp atk / 252 spe / 4 hp

-Hidden Power (Fire)
-Psychic
-Solarbeam
-Explosion

Yes it’s a focus sash. Why? Because my Crobat will usually have taunted the lead, the sash will not break from stealth rock. I come in and do as much damage as I can. Psychic is there for the STAB and to hurt those annoying grass and poison types. Hidden Power fire is to hurt Scizor, or any other steel type that would otherwise wall this set. Explosion is there for when they break my sash, plus it’s a good way to kill Blissey’s. Explosion also allows for my next sweeper to come in with ease.

Victreebel (Sucker)
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
Evs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe

-Swords dance
-Sleep Powder
-Sucker Punch
-Leaf Blade

Does the ev spread look familiar? Yup it’s the R/S version of Victreebel, though I moved some hp evs into speed. Basically Victreebel is my sleep inducer / swords dance sweeper. Sucker Punch is there for when I run out of sun, and I have a stab Leaf blade to deal off some major damage. However, I’m finding this set really sucks against scizor. If I’ve already put one of his pokemon to sleep and he switches in Scizor I have no option, but to switch and allow him to either swords dance or go for a Choice banded attack. I was thinking of Tangrowth to replace him… any suggestions?

SUNNY DAY REPLENISHER

Cresselia
Item: Heat Rock
Nature: Bold
Evs: 252HP / 96 def / 160 Sp Def

-Sunny Day
-Moonlight
-Thunder wave
-Solarbeam

Cress comes in after my crobat dies. She replenishes my sun and can use moonlight to heal 2/3 of her hp. Thunderwave was a support option to cripple pokemon such as choice scarf heatran. Solarbeam was the best option with its 120 base power. The ev spread is mixed because I found that it allowed the least amount of damage from attackers and special attackers. However, I’m less then pleased with this set… Should I take off thunderwave and put in charge beam? And if so should I also change Solarbeam?

STAND ALONE SWEEPERS

Heatran (Heatrock)
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Naive
Evs: 4 atk / 252 Sp atk / 252 spe

-Fire blast
-Solarbeam
-Earth Power
-Explosion

I needed a pokemon with flashfire to absorb incoming fire attacks and Heatran fit the bill. I chose life orb over the choice scarf set because of the ability to switch attacks. Fire blast from STAB + Sun + Flash Fire + Life orb = pwnage. Solarbeam because it’s a better option then hidden power grass, and earth power to kill off incoming heatran. Explosion is for when I’m running low on hp.

Infernape (Inforape)
Item: Life Orb
Nature: Naïve
Evs: 64 atk / 252 SpA / 192 Spe

-close combat
-nasty plot
-flamethrower
-Hidden power (ice)

It’s a mixnape and its in for … Yea you get the message. Anyways, nasty plot to increase my special attack and start hitting stuff hard. I chose flamethrower over fireblast because of its PP and accuracy. Hidden power ice to hit dragons like salamence hard. Close Combat is to kill of blisseys. I was wondering about whether or not I should take out close combat in general and put in vacuum wave.

Well that’s my team and I hope you guys have suggestions to improve it. Thanks!

Cresselia's so weak, it can only KO stuff that's 4x weak to it's attack, and Solarbeam has bad coverage. Cresselia is also bait for Tyrannitar, who'll come in, change the weather, lock Cress into a charge-up, then proceed to KO with a Dark attack. I think Cress would be better off having another defensive option or Ice beam. Protect would allow you to scout the Pursuit vs Crunch dilemna.

Yes, you should turn victreebel to tangrowth. Tangrowth also gets swords dance, but it is more bulky so that you can get it in better. It has a better physical attack, and it can attack scizor with earthquake.

Yes I was considering a tangrowth on the team instead of victreebel. If so what sort of set should I run on it?

And thanks sharptooth, I just realized that one of the biggest weather threats screws up my cresselia bad. While protect is a nice option, if I opt to keep ice beam should I also keep charge beam?

Cresselia (heatrock
-sunny day
-charge beam
-ice beam
-moonlight

And since Cress is bait for tyranitar should I adjust the evs to get some more defense?

For Tangrowth, I would recommend:

Tangrowth@Leftovers
Chlorophyll
252 Atk, 4 SpD, 252 Spe
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)

-Swords Dance
-Power Whip
-Earthquake
-Sleep Powder / Stun Spore

Sleep Powder and Stun Spore are both good options. Stun Spore makes it easier to keep going once the sun goes away. Tangrowth is painfully slow, so Stun Spore can help you outrun threats that are still faster than you in the sun as well. Sleep Powder is less useful because you often can't outspeed the opponent even with sun, but sleep is still a major help to any time and greatly eases prediction. Your call, basically.

You could also try a mixed set on Tangrowth as its special attack is actually higher than its physical, but since Exeggutor hits on the special side, you're probably better off with a pure physical Tangrowth.

Also, you might consider Jumpluff over Crobat. Jumpluff has an extremely fast Sleep Powder (or Encore if you expect Rocks, etc.), and, once she gets sun up on the switch, can U-Turn out faster than anything due to Chlorophyll, probably to Heatran to take the likely Fire- or Ice-type attack. Jumpluff won't always stop rocks from opposing leads, but she may be better overall than Crobat. If you do use Jumpluff, obviously use Stun Spore over Sleep Powder on Tangrowth to avoid redundancy.

Also, on Cresselia, in your new version, drop Charge Beam for Lunar Dance. Cresselia can't damage much but dragons, so don't even bother trying to power it up. Lunar Dance can completely turn the game around, however, allowing you to put a sweeper previously out of commission back into play completely recharged and with plenty of turns of sun to abuse.

Edit:

Jumpluff@Heat Rock
Chlorophyll
252 HP, 4 Atk, 252 Spe
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)

-Sleep Powder
-Encore
-Sunny Day
-U-Turn

Also, I just noticed Solarbeam on Heatran and Exeggutor. Never use Solarbeam; the potential to be crippled by a switch is far too high. Dragon Pulse would be much more useful on Heatran; otherwise only Cresselia can even touch Salamence, Dragonite and Latias. Grass Knot is the obvious choice on Exeggutor.
