ORAS OU Trying to Perfect a Rain Team

This may have been a little misleading - 'perfect' isn't really the right word, but I have been editing this team for half a year now, and I just can't decide on this. I'd appreciate any advice, on my Lead and Tank Pokemon in particular. This team is one that is currently in my copy of X but will be transferred to OR. I don't know what new threats there are in OR so I should probably add stuff to protect against that, so some information about that should be useful.

Politoed M (Zephos) - Lead
186.png

Modest & Drizzle @ Damp Rock
252 SpA / 170 HP / 88 Spe
31/31/31/31/31/31
Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Psychic, Focus Blast
Undoubtedly a staple of any OU Rain Team. Always leads with Drizzle to start off things with its Damp Rock. The moveset is different and new and not tested yet.

Named after the frog-like Wind Deity met in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
Heliolisk M (Soleil) - Special Sweeper
695.png

Timid & Dry Skin @ Shell Bell
252 Spe / 252 SpA / 6 HP
31/x/31/31/31/31
Thunder, Surf, Volt Switch, Grass Knot
One of the central Pokemon to the team and the basis of how I made it. I caught my Heliolisk in the FS with its HA, and it was so good I made a team around it. It has leftovers to help with the whole healing thing.

Thunder is a must and an obvious choice. Surf is coverage against certain Pokemon, and Volt Switch is for any type of dire situation, like a fight against a Fighting-type for example - and related to that, Grass Knot is not only what I can use against Ground-types when Volt Switch is uneffective, but what I use against many major OU Pokemon, as a lot seem to be heavy.

Named after the French for sun, as Heliolisk is largely connected to the sun.
Lanturn M (Gyorg) - Physical Wall
171.png

Modest & Volt Absorb @ Assault Vest
252 HP / 130 Def / 128 SpA
31/x/31/31/31/31
Scald, Thunder, Ice Beam, Signal Beam
Gyorg is actually better than you'd think. His Assault Vest makes him incredibly bulky, which is amazing in most situations.

Scald is a move that gets STAB, a boost from the rain, and the added benefit of inflicting burns sometimes. It is one of my favourite Water-type moves. Thunder is here for the same reason for which it is on Sigma - STAB and 100% accuracy. Ice Beam and Signal Beam are simply coverage and can be swapped out.

Named after the fish boss in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
Ferrothorn M (Riannoc) - Mixed Wall
598.png

Relaxed & Iron Barbs @ Shed Shell
252 HP / 170 SpD / 88 Def
31/31/31/31/31/31
Gyro Ball, Stealth Rock, Leech Seed, Protect
Comments on this Pokemon will come once I have used it more.

Named after the first sylvari to die in Guild Wars 2 lore, the wielder of Caladbolg and the warrior and therefore 'thorny' or 'sharp'.
Noivern M (Kralkatorrik) - Special Sweeper
715.png

Mild & Infiltrator @ Choice Specs
252 Spe / 252 SpA / 6 SpD
31/x/31/31/31/31
Draco Meteor, Flamethrower, Hurricane, Boomburst
Kralkatorrik is one of the best sweepers on my team. He also helped the decision to make this a rain team, due to his amazing move Hurricane, which like Thunder, always hits in the rain. I normally send him in quite quickly to take out an enemy quickly with her Choice Specs, then take him back. I do end up spamming Hurricane a lot though. Maybe Flamethrower or Boomburst could be switched out? They're pretty good though.

Named after the Elder Dragon of Crystal from the popular MMO Guild Wars 2.
Swampert M (Phorcys) - Physical Sweeper
260-m.png

Adamant & Torrent/Swift Swim @ Swampertite
252 Atk / 158 Spe / 64 HP / 36 SpD
31/31/31/x/31/31
Rain Dance, Waterfall, Earthquake, Ice Punch
Recommended by Nyron777, my Mega Swampert, Phorcys. I have tested him and I was not lied to - this guy is amazing. Rain Dance on this guy is good backup for when Politoed gets knocked out. Swift Swim boosts his speed enough that he can outspeed a lot of stuff, plus the rain also boosts Waterfall, and with STAB it is just beautiful. Earthquake and Ice Punch are basically coverage here, but I've been told the Lati Twins and Landorus are two threats to look out for (I've only seen Landorus so far).

Named after the god of the dangers of the deep in Greek mythology.

It's unlikely I'll rebreed any of these Pokemon, actually, but I will if I have to (apart from for Brimstone). I have some alternatives for UU (based on the XY tiers) and some alternatives for my tank that I have used in the past. They are listed below in little detail.

Floatzel - Lead
419.png

Naughty & Swift Swim @ Damp Rock
Rain Dance, Waterfall, Aqua Jet, Ice Fang

Blastoise - Special Sweeper
009-m.png

Modest & Rain Dish / Mega Launcher @ Blastoisinite
Water Pulse, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, Rapid Spin

Scolipede
545.png

Jolly & Speed Boost @ Black Sludge
Megahorn, Baton Pass, Swords Dance, Protect

Slurpuff
685.png

Bold & Unburden @ {I don't remember}
Dazzling Gleam, Calm Mind, Wish, Aromatherapy

Gogoat
673.png

Adamant & Sap Sipper @ Big Root
Horn Leech, Rock Slide, Milk Drink, Leech Seed

Umbreon
197.png

Impish & Sychronise @ Leftovers
Payback, Curse, Confuse Ray, Return

Scizor - Physical Sweeper
212-m.png

Adamant & Technician @ Scizorite
Bullet Punch, Superpower, Roost, Swords Dance

Wow, I wrote quite the amount.

defog can replace super power because noivern gets wrecked wit rocks and spikes set up,That umbreon set looks yikes it needs much improvement return just angers me for some reason idk why xD it should be replaced with foul play/toxic seeing as though you do not have a cleric a wish protect stall umbreon sounds pretty nice right now. That politoed tho replace the moves for Hydro Pump, Psychic, Psychic, <filler> if it were me Id have rocks somewhere but its not me :I

hey awesome team big fan of weather but seeing as how you're trying to abuse rain I would reccomend one things.
1. Try chaging your Mega to Swampert
Pros:Swift Swim, Keeps Bulky sweeper theme, Physical as well, Abuses Rain STAB
Cons: typing, need to be more careful with rain user, adds a grass weakness

if you want heres the set i would reccomend:

260.gif

Swampert @ Swampertite
156 Spd / 252 Atk / 64 Hp/ 36 SpDef
Ability: Damp
Adamant Nature
- Rain Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Having a second rain dance user is fantastic and this allows a little versatility incase politoed goes down. 156 Speed lets you outspeed timid mega-sceptile and beedrill in the rain so theres no need to run max investment, 252 Atk lets him hit hard with Powerful Rain Stab boosted Waterfall this thing WILL pack a huge punch. 64 hp/ and 36 SpD for added extra bulk. WaterFall and Earthquake for obvious coverage and STAB and ice punch to deal with lati twins, landorus amond others.

XenysXero Have fun

I can't put Defog on Scizor, sorry. It requires a Pokemon with Defog all the way back from Gen IV, which I could probably do if I tried, but that's too much effort. I can use Swampert as my mega instead though, thanks for the advice, I have no idea what to expect with the new megas.

I'm not particularly confident in my Umbreon though, I think Gogoat might still be better for this team, though I have got a Wish Cleric ready-made in Slurpuff, though I believe Slurpuff worked better as a Calm Mind Special Sweeper. I don't know, I could always breed something else instead for my tank or just improve my moveset. For Politoed why have you put Psychic twice? What exactly should I replace his moveset with? I could go for a Physical or Special Sweeper, or a Specially Defensive Tank.

Also if Stealth Rock is that much of a problem (and it is), I can put in a Pokemon with Rapid Spin or Defog, though I have no idea where to put it. I think Politoed, Heliolisk, Lanturn and Noivern will stay on my team, and Swampert's becoming my Mega, so some sort of tank that can utilise rain? Avalugg or Forretress maybe?

Also is Damp that important? It doesn't seem like it, as I'll probably Mega Evolve it quite quickly, so I won't bother.

Okay, so with Swampert as my Mega, my most common weakness becomes Grass. So I feel like that would cause some trouble if I run into a setup team with a Ferrothorn or something. That way Noivern isn't enough and probably dies anyway, but Swampert definitely outspeeds Ferrothorn. What if I run into a Trick Room team with Ferrothorn though?

Oh, I guess they've fallen out of popularity since I last played competitively.

Anyway, I've been really considering what to replace my Umbreon with (if I replace it at all), and it's basically come down to a few contenders.

1. The Gogoat on my Alternatives list.
If I'm going to continue abusing the theme of my team to its fullest potential, I'll need a tank that can do that. That tank is Gogoat. With Sap Sipper, Big Root, and Milk Drink, my Gogoat can stay alive for some time, especially with Fire being weakened in the rain.

2. A Tank that can setup/remove setups - Tentacruel, Starmie, etc.
Setups are a huge part of battling, and they can wreck one of the best Special Sweepers on my team (Noivern). In this case, I need to either fight fire with fire and setup my own things or remove whatever my enemy puts down. For this purpose, Starmie and Tentacruel seem to be the best that will work on a rain team. I am leaning towards Tentacruel, because with Starmie my general vulnerability to rain increases further.

Those are my main choices, but a Cleric Pokemon with Heal Bell to save my strategy with Heliolisk in particular could do well too.

hmmm if your looking for a tank that would fit in well with rain teams try these

598.gif

Ferrothorn @ Shed Shell
Relaxed Nature
252 HP/ 88 Def/ 168 SpDef

-Gyro Ball
-Stealth Rock
-Leech Seed
-Protect

Right now your team has trouble with Clefable, it can switch it to most if not ALL your team and have no trouble especially magic guard/CM stored power set. My idea- Ferrothorn > Umbreon. It performs better than Umbreon on this team in every way possible. Ferrothorn is overall just a superior mixed wall cause it looks like thats what umbreon is for. Ferrothorn, normally doesnt counter fire blast clefables but this is rain so that weakness is neutralized perfectly allowing it to function amazingly. It also gives your team something that is crucial in the META, Stealth Rocks. Stealth rocks hurt volt/turn teams and put a major hinder on those tactics, and destroys charizards and talonflames AND dragonite which could pose trouble. This can replace gogoat for the grass weakness. Gyro ball and relaxed nature for fairies like sylveon and such. Leech seed because im not running left overs < Shed shell. Since ferrothorn will be switching in/out a lot getting it trapped by magnezone isnt an option so in those cases shed shell is superior. Switch out into lanturn/politoed to sap up HP fires. Protect lets it scout out Magnezones who try and predict the shed shell switch and use flash cannon/ Tbolt. In this case just stay in and leech seed. This seems to work perfectly for this team. XenysXero Remember Have Fun :D

I wasn't too happy to choose a Pokemon that really is one of the OU Pokemon, one of those ones you see everywhere. But it does work, and I didn't realise the removal of Scizor had removed my main fighter against Fairies. I haven't breeded my own yet (though I'm on my way to doing so), but I have tested the team in a few battles.

You've helped me a lot, thanks. I would say the only weak point I am uncertain of now is Politoed, but I was thinking about rebreeding him into a Special attacker, seeing as that is what he is more inclined towards. I edited Heliolisk's moveset also. Thanks for all the help!
