Turning into a new Gen.

I don't know why I feel the need to post this, but I didn't really get too involved with the generation five metagame after wrapping up generation four. I played it casually on and off and kept up with a few things just to make sure I still knew what was going on, but as soon as I found out that Generation Six was looming on the horizon I found new life and new hope.

So that said, let's cut to the chase. The first thing I thought I wanted to do when I began building a team was abuse the Volt Switch/U-Turn shenanigans that kept a player in an advantageous situation. I figured that as long as I remembered how to play I should be perfectly fine. That more or less led me to my format choice Pokebank OU. Truth is Gen 6 OU is just a shallow pool in comparison to the vast entity that is Pokebank OU and if I wanted to go with full intentions on being a top dog, I decided to play where the big boys would be playing.

So starting things off, I already knew two Pokemon I would be using:

Genesect and Rotom are easily capable of maintaining advantage all the while getting out of dodge with their respect pivot out moves. Genesect has absurd coverage and wasn't in Ubers yet, so I figured I might as well abuse the Titanium Bug while I could before it eventually gets shafted back to, what I expect, is its more welcome home. Though I thought to myself that I needed a third candidate for this strategy, something a little more diverse and with some raw power and that's when I realized the potential in the new generations fire/flying Pokemon of choice...

Talonflame is absolutely insane with the Galewings ability and the already impressive move pool. I had tried conventional methods with Swords Dance and Bulk-Up as options for my bird, but I realized Talonflame, while a solid set-up sweeper, could just as much double as a scout. So I decided to use a Choice Band set with the addition of Steel Wing to its signature moves, creating a powerful yet simple set that seems to be solid. So with these three as my core I had to eliminate any problems that were left. One big one was hazards. At first I had tried a Gliscor with Defog and honestly it proved to be a little lacking in terms of what I wanted. So my next instinct was to try an Excadrill, though that steel typing proved to be problematic given Genesect was already manhandled by fire attacks as is... and that's when I went back to my roots with my spinner. One with priority and the ability to set-up hazards all the while dealing with them at the same time.

The long forgotten Donphan. Donphan in itself isn't too powerful, but it can come in clutch when needed. The primary purpose of this majestic beast is to deal with hazards and maybe lock-in a few revenge kills with Ice Shard. Sturdy of course ensures that it can take a hit in a clean field, but I often time don't get to use it for said purpose. That's okay though because it does what I want it to; clean the field up and let the pivots do the rest. So I had two slots left on my team that needed filled and I was experimenting with different combinations for them. My two favorites had to be a Life orb Latios set in addition to a Curse/Harvest mixture of a Trevenant that I fell in love with when I first saw. However, I felt like I had room for more fire power. I wanted this team to completely threaten everything and that led me to add one of my favorite Pokemon of all time, one of which has been a hot commodity because of its mega variation...

Gengar. Not much needs to be said about this power-house. While I thought about going with the trapping version that stirred up the idea of a Gengarite ban, I've decided to use this thing for what I know it best; a glass cannon. One that comes in and revenge kills anything with ease and with a power boost from Gengarite, it does that with ease. It is incredibly easy for this guy to sweep teams if they aren't prepared. That said I found my team needing one last utility pokemon to deal with things, one of which is Mega Khangskhan whom I absolutely loathe because of the sheer power that was put into its design. That lead me to the obvious answer and the Pokemon I replaced my beloved Trevenant with.

Rocky Helmet Ferrothorn (The Khan Killer). Truly this Pokemon does exactly what I need it to and then some. It comes in and paralyzes Pokes while having enough bulk to take most hits barring the obvious. When used right it even can change the position of the game with classic stalling methods.

And just like that, after a generation hiatus, I had found myself back with my first new team. Below is the specifics about each set, export is a magical function. Eventually I will post a threat list and any updates I want to make to it, but I feel like it is pretty solid considering my rust. Slowly but surely I'll turn myself from being on hiatus to being back in the top of the cut. Let me know what you think!

Bump/Update: Obviously this team needs to be revised slightly with the quick ban of Gengarite finalized. I am not too sure if I want to switch to a different Gengar variation (though Sub-Disable sounds promising) or completely go for something els completely. I would love any suggestions/feedback.
