alright guys, so

I'm sure you people have heard of this game.

It's a celebration of all of gaming, with 82 characters total, spanning from iconic legends to representatives of newer franchises to minecraft steve. And Corrin. So I figured it would be funny to take these characters and turn them into completely fleshed out pokémon, I will try to give them each a somewhat competitive moveset, but also pay homage to the character's actual games. Here are the rules:

1 :Obviously, each character will get one or two types and 1-2 abilities. I'm not using three abilities since 1: If there are a lot of them then theoretically a competitive player would only use the one or two good ones and 2: Three is a lot of work lol

2: Each character/pokemon will have a BST of 570. This is pretty close to the average BST of an OU mon at the time of writing this.

3: Every move/ability given to one of these creations must have some explained origin from one of their games. If not, and the move/ability is given for the sake of viability, that's ok too, just make sure there aren't too many of them.

I would love to hear what you guys think these characters would be like in pokemon. Talk about sets, make your own, add off of another one, and discuss whether or not a smash bros fighter is competitively viable. Once we've created at least one pokemon for all 82 fighters in the game, this thread's mission will be complete.

also if you're confused check out the next comment i made mario

Okay, it would be a crime to not start with Mario, right? I think I did pretty good with this one.

First, he would be a Normal/Fire type, Normal because he's literally a plumber and fire because of his most iconic power-up from the games.
I gave him some pretty balanced stats all around:

HP: 75
Atk: 115
Def: 75
SpAtk: 115
SpDef: 95
Speed: 95

He has lower HP and defense due to the fact that a turtle can bump into him and he dies.

His ability is Simple, because come on. It's Mario. He's as simple as you can get. Simple doubles all stat changes you have. Now for a few move ideas.

Growth (referencing the super mushrooms in the games)
Fire Blast (Fire Flower)
High Jump Kick (Neutral Air Attack in smash bros)
Drill Run (Drill Mushroom from Mario Bros Wonder)
Bounce
Stomp (duh)
Hydro Pump + Aqua Jet (F.L.U.D.D from Mario Sunshine)

As you can see, he'd be a mixed attacker with lots of coverage. If I were using him in a battle I'd probably use a set like this:

Growth Sweeper

Mario (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Simple
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Growth
- Fire Blast
- Hydro Pump
- Aqua Jet

With Simple and Growth, Mario can get +2 Attack and SpA off of one turn of setup. With sun up, this becomes +4 to both stats. This allows Mario to punch holes in the opposing team with Fire and water coverage. Focus Sash makes up for his weaknesses to many common types, including Water and Fighting. Tera Water is used both offensively and defensively, turning Mario's weakness to water into a resistance and giving Aqua Jet, Mario's priority move used when mario doesn't outspeed the opponent, even more power. However, Mario should watch out for fast mons that don't lose to a boosted Aqua Jet, or can use a multi-hit move to counter the sash. Also important to note is that if sun is up to help with growth, Hydro Pump and Aqua Jet do less damage.

So what are you guys thinking? OU or nah?

So, to be clear, is this intended to be fitting pokemon stats for video game characters that happen to be featured in Smash, or an attempted emulation of their playstyle within Smash itself? I don't consider them to always be aligned, especially not for the pokemon themselves.

You can draw inspiration from both, however, making a complete set based only on moves/abilities the character has in Smash might be difficult as a lot of moves are just punches and kicks and stuff like that, so what would happen is everybody would have a bunch of fighting type moves.
