Welcome! This is an unofficial service (in relation to the Battling 101 section) provided by some of the ND Ubers community to ease accessibility to the metagame. The OP will go into detail about the process for tutors to sign-up, tutees should read the following post instead.

TUTOR RULES

Requirements to qualify as a tutor for this tier

- Interest and familiarity on the tier as to help players who have hit a plateau in terms of battling and teambuilding and can't seem to improve by themselves, as well as players who understand advanced battling strategies and predictions and want a quick crash-course in this metagame. This is commonly achieved by chatting in real time over a teambuilding process, as well as how they may perform certain plays against another player, be it the tutee against the ladder, or the tutor and the tutee facing off each other. General talks to try to translate the prior metagame knowledge the tutee may have can also be productive.
- At least 3 hours of availability used for the tutee within a timeframe of 2 weeks per round for tutoring purposes. More time than this can be spent if needed or desired, but that's the minimal. This may get revised as this process develops.

How to apply

Fill the following application, then DM it to me and entrocefalo for evaluation:

Ways you've demonstrated knowledge of the metagame:

If you aren't sure how to showcase your knowledge of the metagame, this can be done via team rating examples (be it in the RMT subforum, the ND Ubers Discord server, or the main Smogon server on pertinent teams of the tier), as well as tour matches, articles written, tier leaders/council members who would vouch for you, etc. It is especially helpful if examples of these things are given. It's also worth noting that tutors that perform particularly well may be awarded the

Community Contributor badge after a while.

With all of all said, I wish you all luck!

TUTEE RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, the National Dex Ubers Discord server, and whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown!
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement, meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for ND Ubers; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand, such as the ones laid out in this page.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Open a ticket in the ND Ubers Discord server to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). While not mandatory, if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is extremely mean, go there and explain the details. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be marked by staff as requests to ignore, a new post from scratch is to be made here again if there's a revival of interest and activity on part of the tutee.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from this service or worse. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started out playing Pokemon in-cart back in the Gen 4 era. Being unable to understand English, I was pretty limited to being a casual player, barely glancing at Smogon once I discovered it during the Gen 6 era, and since Gen 8 I've been pretty involved across several of the resources for National Dex Ubers, some OMs and Pet Mods. Some help to improve my battling decisions, as well as teambuilding for bulky offense would be nice to have.

Please also note that there's also tutoring support in French and Chinese, although moderation support will still be mostly limited to English, so keep that in mind.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Been playing pokemon since 1st grade with B&W, naturally progressed into the other games, cards, etc. I knew of Smogon and often used its strategy dex to build, but I only recently gained a conceptual grasp on the roles and requirements of a team. As for my play, I've been playing NDUbers for a long time now, but recently, I've hit a glass ceiling. Whether habit playing, tilting, or perhaps even an actual skill issue, I cannot seem to get better. I think my teambuilding is fine, but my battling skills need help.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Started playing competitively again from 20th November last year(After stopping playing before, originally started playing in mid gen 8 ndou), started with NDOU, started NDUbers in February. Laddering is quite easy but I am completely trash in tournaments. Coming from the greatest loss of my career in ndfl finals right now, I need to get good. I cannot stand being trash. I believe I have potential to make a good name for myself/become one of the best players in natdex and will utilise that potential to the fullest.

Okay, for now I'll be closing this as we're running out of tutors now, once there's more vacant spots the thread will be re-opened, I'll be sure to make another post here so those interested are notified for when there's more availability for our tutors.

After some internal discussions it was deemed better to just leave this open for further sign-ups, but they'll remain hanging until there's further tutor availability, so please be patient! In any case, y'all will be notified when there's space to allocate accordingly, so don't worry unless it's left in hiatus for multiple months.
