Tyranitar has the power!

Tyranitar has the Power!

Introduction: So I made this team in the middle of round 5, and I noticed how popular drizzle teams were getting. Obviously, Thundurus was one of the main reasons for this spike in popularity, and I wanted to create a sandstorm team. I know what you are thinking, oh no another horrible bog standard sand team... Nope! My team only has Landorus to abuse it, the rest is... Tyranitar,
Gastrodon, Skarmory, Dragonite, Deoxys-S, and as I mentioned earlier, Landorus. The teams purpose is to combat rain (Gastrodon) break down a few walls (Dragonite) which will let Deoxys-S and Landorus sweep, obviously Tyranitar provides the sand. So now you know my team's role, I will let you know this. I am NOT retiring this team yet (It's too awesome ^_^) but I will adjust it ever so slightly should anything be banned, if Drizzle is banned I can keep my rain combat core against water types in general. Anyway, enough has been said, here is the team!

Rain- Rain is the most popular full forged weather, so I had two pokemon dedicated to defeating rain teams. Gastrodon is more than capable of defeating a standard rain team, while also upholding an offensive presence against other teams.

Sand- Another common weather, I don't need a specific unit for it since I have a sandstorm team. Excadrill, a common sweeper cannot set up on any of these pokemon without getting seriously dented or being KO'd, since the new standard is LO it will fall quickly.

Sun- Landorus really does the work here, using his STAB Earthquake to destroy fire types, then bring in Tyranitar to disable the sunlight and let Landorus carry on with his job.

248-frame2.png

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sandstream
Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
EVs: 252 HP/80 SAtk/176 SDef
-Stealth Rock
-Crunch
-Fire Blast
-Pursuit

Like any sandstorm team, you need the inducer of everyone's choice Tyranitar. Tyranitar is an amazing utility counter to Latios, Ghost types, and Reuniclus it also provides Stealth Rock for the whole team, and activates Landorus' Sand Force. However the main selling point is controllinthe weather, since rain an sun have ridiculously powerful attacks, with the precious weather of course. Luckily my team does not over rely on weather, so should my weather fade the whole team does not crumble. Tyranitar is also good late game, his coverage helps defeat many teams later on. The EVs are not that specific, make special attacks very strong, then maximize bulk.

423-frame1.png

Gastrodon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP/4 SAtk/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
-Toxic
-Scald
-Ice Beam
-Recover

Gastrodon is the sole counter to rain teams, however he performs his job so well that it feels like a team against rain teams! Gastrodon, along with Skarmory are the team's newest additions suggested by AB 2 (Thanks!) I agreed with Suicune being the weak link, and I was true. Gastrodon picks off were Suicune left off, countering rain but also checking Thundurus much better. Gastrodon even has instant recovery, while also posing an offensive threat with a Storm Drain boost. Toxic is helpful for stalling stall teams and catching a Blissey off guard. Scald is good for burning Gyarados and stuff.

227-frame2.png

Skarmory (M) @ Shed Shell
Ability: Sturdy
EVs:252 HP/180 Def/76 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
-Spikes
-Brave Bird
-Roost
-Whirlwind

Skarm is an awesome check to sandstorm teams, Scizor, Breloom, and has excellent synergy with Gastrodon. Skarmory also sets up spikes and can shuffle opponents to help Deoxys and Landorus. Skarmory also can stop stat up sweepers with whirlwind. The EVs let it check Excadrill and Landorus much better, while the special defense let's it take weak ice beams from Blissey. Roosts a nifty way to recover, letting Skarmory wall much better. This used to be Ferrothorn, but Skarmory has the advantage of checking sandstorm to give it the edge. Skarmory also has sturdy so that means if something is at +6 and doesn't have SR it can be phazed out.

149-frame2.png

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/252 SAtk/4 Spd
Rash nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
-Draco Meteor
-Superpower
-Extremespeed
-Fire Blast

This cute lil' Dragon is the first part of the offensive core, and serves it's purpose as breaking down tough walls that Landorus and Deoxys-s have trouble with busting past, as well as pulling off a mini sweep. Dragonite, in my opinion is a better mixed attacker than Salamence, thanks to superpower and extreme speed. Also with inner focus I don't worry about multi scale and is a better choice for a sandstorm team. Dragonite is amazing late game, he is an absolute beast at picking off the team (my offensive core's main purpose) and sweeping very well mid game. Dragonite is also bulky, and can absorb Mach Punch etc. easily.

48284.gif

Deoxys-S @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 28 Atk/252 SAtk/228 Spd
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
-Psycho Boost
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Superpower

Deoxys-s is a sweeper, revenge killer, and fighting counter all in one! Deoxys sees multiple uses throughout the game, but make sure to revenge Thundurus if possible. It may seem odd to use a LO on a sandstorm team, but really Deoxys just wants to take out a few mons and then leave. Psycho Boost can easily kill all fighting types, and superpower OHKO's all non-chople tars. Deoxys really loves the spikes support since it makes him much stronger, and better at revenge killing. Deoxys is a very anti-metagame pokemon, and deserves to be higher than no. 40.

645.png

Landorus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk/4 SAtk/252 Spd
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
-Substitute
-Earthquake
-Smack Down
-Hidden Power [Ice]

The final piece of the offensive core is the mighty Landorus. Delko created this set and let me tell you it is absolutely amazing. Landorus' old counters such as Skarmory and Bronzong get grounded by smack down on the switch, and are OHKO'd by Earthquake. Not only this but with a substitute Landorus becomes amazingly annoying. Late@s get destroyed by a Sand Force Earthquake when grounded. This thing is amazing late game and is an awesome mon.

Well that's my team, rate it, hate it, or steal it!

Heracross - Landorus, haven't seen one yet though. I guess Suicune can kind of take it on.
Hydreigon -Tyranitar can deal with it, scout for Focus Blast first though. Deoxys-s can pick off a slightly weakened one, fairly annoying though.
Infernape - Suicune can wall SD variants, Deoxys is my switch for Mach punch to kill it with Psycho Boost. He also can't switch in so Infernap is very easy to defeat.
Jirachi - Suicune walls it forever while boosting, outspends Jirachi so I can rest if it gets a crit. Then KO with Surf, Ferrothorn takes it well except for the rare Fire Punch.
Jolteon - Ferrothorn easily walls it, sub baton pass is beaten by Tyranitar. Slightly a pest though.
Keldeo - Not released...
Kingdra - Don't see them very much, but Suicune can wall it. Ferrothorn can come in as well, however you should scout for HP Fire by switching to Suicune and go from there.
Krookodile - Suicune can beat it, Ferrothorn does well, Landorus can KO it.
Kyurem - Very rare except on hail teams (also rare) Stealth Rock plus Spikes will wear it down enough that Suicune can take Ice Beam and 2HKO back or OHKO if maximum damage rolls.
Landorus - Deoxys-s can Ice Beam it and thats really it, major threat!
Latios - Ttar beats it, Ferrothorn scout for HP fire with cune, revenge weakened one with Deoxys-s.
Lilligant - Deoxys-s can revenge it when it's in the sand, Ferrothorn but scout for HP fire which is rare because of Heatran popularity.
Lucario - Landorus can take it on, Deoxys can revenge NP variants I see I occasionally so I'm fairly careful with it, Dnite can beat choice variants which is rare.
Machamp - Dnite can kill it with DM, Landorus can KO, Deoxys can easily revenge. I've seen like two of them but whatever.
Magnezone - Landorus after balloon is broken, Deoxys can pick it off with Superpower, Tyranitar can Fire Blast it while taking a small amount from T-bolt, Dnite can superpower or fire blast it.
Mamoswine - Ferrothorn and Suicune can beat Adamant ones since Suicune out runs it, Superpower is rare so Ferrothorn can beat it.
Meloetta-S -Unreleased.
Meloetta-V - Unrealeased.
Metagross -Ferrothorn and Suicune, Landorus can beat non Air Balloon ones. Dnite does fairk well.
Mienshao - Deoxys-s can revenge it, Landorus does well. It's usually a lead so I might lead with Deoxys when that happens.
Reuniclus - Tyranitar can do some damage to a fleeing on and can 2HKO a stay in, Ferrothorn does okay but Deoxys needs to take FB which has 8 PP, it's strong but can be played around, fair threat.
Roserade - Deoxys-s can OHKO it, Ferrothorn does well, Dnite can extreme speed.
Salamence - Landorus can stone edg or HP ice it, Deoxys can revenge a +1 with Ice Beam.
Sawsbuck - Deoxys can revenge it in the sand, Ferrothorn does okay but I am wary of Jump Kick.
Scizor - Suicune can absorb Bullet Punch, Landorus can OHKO it, Dnite can also absorb Bullet Punch and Fire Blast it.
Scrafty- Dnite does enough damage to put it in extreme speed KO range, can barely survive an Ice Punch. Suicune is okay against it, Landorus can beat it later.
Seismitoad - Really???? Ferrothorn is a solid counter but this guy must be like #
456?
Shaymin - Ferrothorn, Dnite it's not common though.
Sigilyph - Tyranitar can Ice Beam or pursuit it. It's annoying to fac though.
Smeargle - Rare but Deoxys-s and Tyranitar can defeat it, honestly anything can beat Smeargle, he can only baton pass.
Starmie - Tyranitar beats it in the sand, Suicune and Ferrothorn. Deoxys can Thunderbolt it.
Terakion - Deoxys-s, Landorus after a rp.
Thundurus - Deoxys-s Ttar can somewhat beat it Dnite can extreme speed. Still a threat though.
Togekiss -Ttar with Ice Beam, Stealth Rock hurts it, Deoxys has Ice Beam.
Tornadus - See Thundurus but less o a threat.
Tyranitar - Suicune can set up on mixed versions, Dnite and Deoxys have superpower, Landorus can OHKo, scarf is handled by Ferrothorn.
Venusaur - Deoxys when in the sand, Ferrothorn scout for HP Fire first, Landorus when in the sand.
Victini - Ttar can take it, Suicune, SR and spikes hurt it, Dnite does okay with DM plus extreme speed.
Virizion - Deoxys-s beats SD, Spikes let's Landorus KO after he RPs.
Volcarona - Landorus, Suicune, and SR makes it not a threat.
Weavile - Suicune and Ferrothorn, Deoxys can superpower it.
Zoroark - Deoxys has superpower, it's tricky but Dnite can use extreme speed to reveal it's deception.

Solid team Tyranitar. So here's a rate of the team.

Tyranitar- Tyranitar is fine
Suicune- now here's where I'm not so sure about the team, Suicune should be more defensive with sleep talk over ice beam.
Ferrothorn- fine
Dragonite - fine
Deoxs -s fine
Landorus- you may want outrage or swords dance see outrage over ice since all it hits is Gliscor and swords dance boost outrage and earthquake plus stone edge.

That's the rate good luck.

Thanks but I need HP ice for Gliscor Outrage is very filler, I'll try a different cune but I like mine a lot!!!!

Why do you have the EVs on Tyranitar in attack if it's the mixed variant? I don't know, maybe you hit a peak point for pursuit that way, but otherwise it seems better to move the EVs into SpAtk as he already has a very nice Atk stat and needs the SpAtk "oomph" badly.

Okay I'll put more EVs into SAtk thanks for the rate!

If you want to get a late game sweep off with Deoxys-S, then you need to be able to remove Scizor, Jirachi, and defensive Rotom-W very easily. As far as threats go, Excadrill is going to give you some problems especially if it packs Return or Frustration. A Skarmory of your own would work excellently over Ferrothorn as it gives you the ability to spike on Scizor and Jirachi easily and win against Excadrill. A set with spikes | roost | whirlwind | brave bird would work well with an impish nature and an ev spread with 252 HP | 240 Def | 16 Spe. As for an item choice, you could use leftovers or shed shell but the choice is up to you really. Even with Ferrothorn and Suicune, drizzle teams can still be a pain to face. Lati@s looks like it could be a problem for this team as well, especially if you decide to remove Ferrothorn from the picture as powerful stab draco meteors will really be able to do some damage. Bulking up Tyranitar's EV spread would make it more effective at letting you take out Lati@s. Maximizing HP and special defense would allow you to easily do this while being able to get up stealth rock as well. A move set of stealth rock | crunch | fire blast | pursuit would also be more effective since you can trap and KO Lati@s much more easily than if you had just used crunch.

Drizzle is a pain to this team, especially with Ferrothorn removed. Suicune is really the weakest link to this team since powerful drizzle abusers have the ability to easily ko it. This is why a specially defensive Gastrodon would work much better over Suicune. With storm drain, Gastrodon can hard counter most bulky waters in the tier and it has the ability to check Thundurus which can be deadly to most teams. If you decide to test it out, I would try a set with scald | ice beam | toxic | recover with a calm nature and leftovers. Maximizing special defense and hp is pretty much your only option if you want Gastrodon to achieve the goals of checking drizzle sweepers along side Tyranitar. Finally, Deoxys-S should probably run an EV spread of 28 Atk | 252 SpA | 228 Spe with a hasty nature. Hasty allows you to switch into non boosted attacks from threats like Thundurus easier so you can use it as a secondary check and the speed outruns naive scarf Landorus which is all you really need.

Pretty solid team, good luck.

Hi

At first sight I notice that you have nothing to take on the physical offensive behemoths like Terrakion and Conkeldurr. You have Deoxys to revenge kill them, but then you have to sacrifice something before you can bring it on. I would also like to mention that Suicune isn't as good anymore this gen because of the most used pokemon, Ferrothorn. For that reason I suggest Slowbro instead of Suicune, as this will help you with the aformentioned problem. With a moveset of Scald / Psychic / Slack Off / Fire Blast Slowbro can take on most physical hitters. Fire Blast can be useful to hit Scizor who can be a problem for Dragonite and Landorus, with it's powerful Bullet Punch. It also prevents Ferrothorn from using Slowbro as set up fodder.

With a Fighting counter in Slowbro, you could consider a more suited revenge killer for your team. Excadrill is briliant on Sandstorm teams and can easily go instead of Deoxys-S. As an added bonus Excadrill can Rapid Spin away entry hazards so your team has an easier time switching around (will really help Dragonite since he doesn't carry Roost). A moveset of X-scissor / Rapid Spin / Rock Slide / Earthquake, Adamant nature and holding Air Balloon. will fit your team perfectly. If you find Nasty Plot Celebi to be handle by the rest of your team you can use Sword Dance instead of X-scissor. Using Excadrill instead of Deoxys will give you an easier time against Volcarona and the likes as well. The Air Balloon item is mainly to help you revenge kill opposing Excadrill. If you decide to use this Excadrill set you can also try a slightly different Landorus set to act as a "lure" to take out Excadrill's counters, making it easier for him to clean up late game. The set uses Substitute over Rock Polish and Smack Down instead of Stone Edge, holding Leftovers. Smack Down allows Landorus to take care of Bronzong, Skarmory and Rotom, who are important checks to Excadrill.

And lastly I would like to suggest a slightly different EV spread on Tyranitar. The standard 252 HP / 180 SpA / 76 SDef will suffice.

Hope these suggestions helped and good luck with your team.

@AB2- Thanks I'll try the suggested changes out, thank you a lot. I do like the sound of Gastrodon and Skarm. I'll definitely bulk up Tyranitar good idea.

@Delko- I would like to try sub over rp on Landorus sounds good, as for excadrill, it might give me a fighting weakness that I can't handle but Landorus seems awesome with sub.

Thanks a lot for the rates guys!

I will also try everything you Gus suggested thanks!

You would have to keep Gastrodon alive and well if opposing a rain team, particularly one with Choice Specs Politoed I know im stating the obvious just reinforcing the point, if Gastrodon is out of the picture your screwed vs rain teams.
