[OVERVIEW]

* Tyranitar is the premier sand setter in VGC Series 1.
* Tyranitar functions best in more offensive teamstyles alongside Garchomp, who appreciates being able to abuse Sand Veil, and Lycanroc-Day, who is the best user of Sand Rush in the format.
* Tyranitar and Lycanroc together also help setup for Dondozo and Tatsugiri teams, often taking down at least one Pokemon and chipping a second Pokemon prior to Dondozo and Tatsugiri being sent out.
* With its solid special defense under sand pre-tera alongside its phenomenal attack, Tyranitar acts as a defensive backbone taking on threats like Hydreigon, Armarouge, and Skeledirge with its excellent bulk.
* Tyranitar's main issue is its speed and quad weakness to fighting; as such it appreciates teammates that can help to navigate one or both of these weaknesses.
* Trick Room support from Meowscarada, Indeedee, and Farigiraf or Tailwind support from Murkrow and Talonflame help tremendously with Tyranitar's speed.
* Redirection from Amoonguss and Volcarona help deal with Tyranitar's fighting weakness.
* Meowscarada, Dondozo, and Annihilape all threaten massive damage to Tyranitar with their STAB-boosted moves, forcing it to either use Terastalization or switch out.
* Garchomp threatens massive damage before Terastalization with Earthquake and after Terastalization with Rock Slide.
* Tyranitar is crippled by burns, severely limiting its overall damage output.
* Tyranitar is also susceptible to getting chipped by its own sandstorm after using Terastalization, further reducing its bulk.

[SET COMMENTS]

* Assurance does massive damage to opposing Pokemon already hit by Tyranitar's partner.
* Crunch is a viable alternative to Assurance, doing more damage if a teammate doesn't hit the opposing Pokemon before Tyranitar does.
* Flying-Tera Blast hits opposing Grass-type Pokemon like Meowscarada and Amoonguss once transformed. It also does solid damage to Annihilape.
* Ice Punch allows Tyranitar to OHKO Garchomp while still doing solid damage to Grass-type Pokemon.
* Protect can be used over Tera Blast or Ice Punch if Tyranitar is running an item other than Assault Vest.
* Weakness Policy allows Tyranitar to gain a +2 boost off of opposing special Water- and Grass-type attacks.
* Lum Berry prevents opposing burns, allowing Tyranitar to continue to output damage for longer.
* The given EVs maximize Tyranitar's damage output and general bulk. A Brave Nature and 0 Speed IVs should be used if running Trick Room; otherwise, Adamant is best.
* Tera Flying allows Tyranitar to change its 4x fighting weakness into a resistance and circumvent its weaknesses to grass and water.
