Hi, I m a beginner Uber player thats trying to climb up the uber ladder, my main accounts are Diamond Elo and Furinkazan. I threw together a hail team with a friend (Tin Elo) and our highest account is currently 2077 on Uber as of right now. I also made a hail team because I felt like it was underused in Uber and was tired of seeing the same sun and rain and occasionally sand team over and over again.
Here is the team in a nutshell :
Abomasnow (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature
- Protect
- Leech Seed
- Focus Punch
- Ice Shard
This can't be a Hail team without Abomasnow, unless you want to run Snover for some reason. I was tired of all the damn Kyogre spamming water spouts all day, and this thing right here, can switch into it, taking 40~50% from a Specs full HP Kyogre Water Spout and 30~% from a ScarfOgre Water Spout then proceeds to recover back the HP from Leech Seed and Protect while dwindling down Water Spout's power if he decides to stay in. Focus Punch lets me hit Ferrothorns and Tyranitar's hard on the switch. Ice shard is used to pick off low HP enemies, as well as being able to survive an Espeed from Swords Dance Adamant Life Orb Rayquaza 66.75% of the time and dealing a good 40% to it.
Why I chose this : Well it is the only "viable" Hail set up Pokemon.
Kyurem-White @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Turboblaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- Focus Blast
- Blizzard
One of the revenge killer and late game sweeper of this team. I have both Dragon Pulse and Draco on here because sometimes Draco nets me those KOs that Pulse won't while Pulse is there so I don't have to switch out due to Draco's SpA drop. Hail lets me abuses 100% accuracy Blizzard and hits most things hard. Timid Nature lets me outspeed all scarf 90s while speed tie with +1 Rayquaza and other scarf 95s w/ +speed Nature. I used to run Fusion Flare but I switched it out for Focus Blast mainly because it hits Ferrothorn in the rain harder and it also hits Tyranitars switching in to try to tank Kyurem-W's attack. But the drawback is the lower accuracy and also not being able to OHKO Genesect at full HP. I was also considering running Ice beam instead of Focus Blast and just have dual stabs for Rayquaza because I always seem to miss Blizzard against them at crucial moments.
Why I chose this : Abusing the Hail with 100% Accuracy Blizzard as well has hitting like a truck with 170 SpA, and the ability to outspeed scarf 90s and revenge kill.
Excadrill (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 28 Spd / 252 HP / 228 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Rock Slide
Blastoise was just not cutting it for the uber metagame, it was extremely hard for Blastoise to actually pull off a foresight rapid spin against enemy Giratina, and even without Giratina it was hard to pull off a Spin against the onslaught of attacks it was taking. So I switched that out for Mold Breaker Excadrill. This set while still being able to deal with Pokemons trying to set up on Excadrill, because most people don't expect Excadrill to carry toxic. Earthquake/Rockslide is for the Edgequake combo. EVs to speed creep speed creeping standard Dialga and other base 90s, and ATK evs to make me hit a bit harder. I am however considering using Air Balloon instead of leftovers, letting me switch into predicted EQ from Groudon.
Why I chose this : Well I basically needed a spinner for this team, and I find Excadrill more capable of dealing with Dialga and Giratinas
Arceus @ Spooky Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brick Break
- Shadow Force
- Will-O-Wisp
This is mainly my Extremekiller check and somewhat spin blocker. I run 252 speed on this because it lets me outspeed 99% of EKA and speedties other variant of Arceus and get off a Will-O-Wisp or Shadow force on the latter. I run no recover on this so it does get wear down pretty quick though. STAB Shadow force allows me to hit stuff that doesn't resist it pretty hard while demolishing pokemon that is weak to it. While Brick Break allows me to hit Dialga and Excadrill and the likes moderately hard and being able to do more damage than the previous Extremespeed to Arceus Normal. I considered removing Swords Dance to put Recover on this so it has more longevity. Arceus-Ghost also complements my team because I have 3 pokemon that is weak to Fighting moves and this thing can switch into them with impunity.
Why I chose this : To outspeed 95% of Normal Arceus variant and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp or just straight up kill it with Brick Break, as EKA poses a big threat to this team without Arceus-Ghost.
Dialga @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 56 SAtk / 200 SDef
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
The standard Dialga set, setting up rocks and supporting my team. This is also my Palkia check, able to live any Palkia attack and either forcing it out and set up my rocks or hit something hard with Draco or Fire Blast. Roar also lets me phaze away pokemons trying to set up on my Dialga after my SpA drop from Draco Meteor. People love bringing in Arceus into this thing after I've Draco'd something thinking they can set up on me only to get Phazed out. Fire Blast allows me to 2HKO Ferrothorn and Foretress most of the time in the rain, while netting a clean OHKO against 4 HP Genesect in the rain.
Why I chose this : Dialga's natural bulk made it the perfect candidate to set up rocks and well as switch into hits that Ho-oh does not like taking.
Ho-Oh @ Choice Band
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sacred Fire
- Earthquake
- Sleep Talk
This thing...the MVP of this team. Ho-oh is SOO good at leading most of the thing, especially against Genesect scout lead and most sash leads. It hits anything that wants to switch into it hard, as well as 2HKOing Groudon with Sacred Fire while 2HKOing Groundon most of the time with Brave Bird. This Ho-oh Also do good against Darkrai leads, and Sleep talk on the predicted Dark Void. This also beat Baton pass Smeargles as Sacred Fire might just kill it turn 1 with a burn, and if not Abomasnow is there to finish the job with Hail putting a hard stop to the pass. This is also my switch in to Darkrais if rocks are not up taking less than 50% from Dark Pulse while resisting Focus Blast. This thing can also switch into Darkrai if rocks are up if it is at full HP into a predicted Dark Void, then proceed to kill Darkrai with Sleep Talk. Sometimes I do get the unfortunate first turn wake in these situations or when lead Darkrai misses Dark Void turn one results in an awkward moment, but overall I love this set. I also run 252 Speed to speedties max speed netural 90s, although I am contemplating if I should run more bulk on this thing. Earthquake is there to hit the rare Heatran, as it resists both of Ho-oh's stab, but other than that, it doesn't see much use and its the most replaceable move on this set.
Why I chose this : Needed a hard hitting physical mon and banded Ho-oh is able to hit every weather inducer hard with its moves while being able to force switches easily.
Threat List :
While this team have somewhat reliable checks to some of these pokemons, the team still have trouble:
This team has trouble revenge killing Mewtwo as nothing on this team can 1 hit KO it besides Ho-oh and Arceus, Ho-oh isn't a check if rocks are up, and is only a check if its at 100% HP. Because Arceus lack recover, it doesn't enjoy taking a huge hit before forcing Mewtwo out or kill it with a Shadow Force.
Due to not having reliable recovery on Arceus and Ho-oh's weakness to rocks, this team doesn't have many option to deal with the pink blobs. Also because of lack of spikes/tspikes on this team, these pink blobs become real annoyance really fast.
This team virtually has no checks for Palkia if Dialga is low/dead, the scarf set outspeeds scarf Kyurem-W.
This thing paired with Kyogre is uber tier annoyance. Being immune to leech seed while potentially carrying gyro ball to dent my Abomasnow as well as having the possible leech seed and thunder wave to annoy the rest of my team.
The most premier spinblocker of ubers, it comes to no surprise it is the bane to a hazard weak team. Being able to phaze out my pokemon while being able to block my spin, it is really an annoyance to deal with. I would have to hope it Roar/Dragon tails me out to an appropriate check to kill/force this thing out.
Oh man, this combo. If I ever end up losing the weather war against TTar, my whole team is basically dead. This team doesn't have switch ins for TTar's common attacks, and they can usually set up rocks uncontested if they carry it. If Excadrill gets up a SD, it basically spells the doom for this team because almost everything won't be able to survive EQ/Rock slide combo. While even Arceus is OHKO'd after rocks or having a 31% chance to be OHKO'd without rocks.
Sub Nasty Plot Darkrai, this thing can rampage through this team if they outpredict my Ho-oh and can set up all over it while I'll be forced to switch out because locked into Sleep talk.
If Dialga fails to get rocks up, usually this thing just destroy this team and I won't be able to revenge kill it unless my Ho-oh is healthy, which usually results in a double down between the two.
Conclusion :
This is my first time making a RMT and I m not particularly good at explaining stuff or have good attention to details in covering all the things. So feel free to post what I should work on team wise as well as posting wise. This team is in no way perfect, so suggestions are always welcomed. Overall the team is effective at dealing with weatherless and rain teams but has some issues with sun teams and is pretty bad against sand teams. Hazards are also a huge issue as this team is very weak to stealth rocks that can cut down on the number of switches and Ho-oh is such a huge part of the team's damage. Stall teams are also an issue as this team really has no recovery and gets destroyed by constantly switching in.
