Uber Stall Team Peaked ~#20

Introduction:

It started with trying to spread paralysis all over the opponent in an attempt to get a slower uber to sweep. The first version of my team had dialga+chansey using twave, skarmory+chansey as a defensive core, tentacruel as a spinner to keep toxic spikes off and sub-honeclaws zekrom as the sweeper. Scarf kyogre acts as the backup revenge killer for mewtwo/darkrai.

Gradually Tentacruel was found to be near useless against teams that do not stack spikes or use toxic spikes, and was only used as a switch in against kyogre waterspouts - which chansey could easily do as well.
Thus Tentacruel was replaced by Arceus-Poison, who could also absorb toxicspikes if necessary AND had better stats and utility all round.

Physically Arceus-Poison also served as a check to DDquaza which gave my team huge problems as skarmory dies to overheat. It also manages taunt-gliscor which was a pain for skarmory and blissey, as Arceus-Poison takes 30-36% from Earthquake with no EVs.
Eventually I wanted to test out Stalltwo, and it has been awesomely fun to play with. The only problem now is that WoW from Arceus and Mewtwo often clashes with Thunderwave, and Rapidspin Excadrill stops my team strategy.

Presenting the team:

dialga.png

Dialga @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SAtk / 140 SDef / 20 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Dragon Pulse
- Fire Blast

I almost always lead with Dialga although my team preview shows Kyogre. Dialga acts as a bulky attacker who aims to cripple as many as possible with thunderwave.

Against the top 10 uber leads from http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3462975
Kyogre: Open with Thunderwave. Switch to chansey if its specs, hit with dragon pulse if scarf. Dialga takes ~50% from scarf waterspout
Groudon: Open with fireblast, which always 2hko. Defensive groudons usually do about 70% with earthquake and my 20speed Evs make me faster than any defensive groudon i've seen.
Dialga: Open with thunderwave, proceed to exchange dragonpulse while getting a few FP in.
Darkrai: If Dark Void misses, then Darkrai is nicely paralyzed. If Dark Void hits, Kyogre can come in to kill.
Deoxys-S: 2hko with dragonpulse. Most use taunt on first turn and will only get 1 layer of SR down.
Tyranitar: Thunderwave, Stealthrock and see what the opponent switches in
Mewtwo: Thunderwave cripples mewtwo completely
Ferrothorn: Fireblast. Although I usually thunderwave/SR first turn as most ferrothorn will switch out or use protect. If they protect and see that I didn't use fireblast, they usually stay the 2nd turn to eat fireblast.
Deoxys-A: Superpower does ~80%. I usually thunderwave first turn and do some smart switching around Arceus-Poison and Chansey to get rid of this guy.
Forretress: Fireblast the first turn, Stealthrock as they switch out the 2nd turn. Arceus Poison takes care of any toxic spikes.

25_Kyogre.jpg

Kyogre @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SAtk / 192 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Water Spout
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunder

Every team needs a choice scarfer as a backup to threats. Kyogre fulfills this role, taking care of darkrai, psycho killer mewtwo, choice locked kyogre, etc. Is also one of my switch in to ho-oh who is hopefully paralyzed by then. Speed EVs enough to hit 396, rest into HP to take hits. No need to max out speed as the stall team is supposed to stay healthy at all times and I try to avoid speedtiers.

th_poison.png

Arceus-Poiso (Arceus-Poison) @ Toxic Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Sludge Bomb
- Will-O-Wisp

Checks rayquaza, gliscor, takes toxic spikes, physical attacks such as closecombat and spreads burn nicely.
I'm still trying to figure out the best moveset for Arceus. Recover and icebeam have to stay. WoW has occassionally conflicted with thunderwave but has proved useful. On the sludge bomb slot i've considered judgement/toxic/roar, but am trying out sludge bomb for now to inflict damage while having the chance to poison, although recently i just missed on the KO on a kyogre which cost me my match. Toxic could provide a more reliable way of status, but I think that I'll use WoW more often. Roar is great as Arceus forces switches often. I'm also considering surf/flamethrower for excadrill which cannot ohko with earthquake anyway.

Anyway hoping to get some feedback on Arceus-poison to mend the holes in my team.

Skarmory__Normal_Coloration_by_Xous54.png

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 178 Def / 80 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Whirlwind
- Roost

A great switch in to all physical attackers such as Groudon/Arceus/Garchomp/Heracross/Scizor/Terrakion. Also works as a great switch in to ferrothorn who usually leechseed on my switch in, allowing me to taunt and prevent spikes from being set up. Taunt also works great on pokemon like Skarmory/Chansey/Forretress. Extremekiller Arceus when paralyzed is also taunt-able.

Taunt gliscor recently posed problems but i've learnt to counter it by taunting when gliscor switches in, forcing gliscor to switch out. The key is to spam taunt on those damn gliscor teams. Kyogre and Arceus-Poison can come in on turns where gliscor safely switches in and tries to taunt my skarmory.

Chansey_by_Xous54.png

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Charm
- Softboiled
- Heal Bell
- Thunder Wave

Another pokemon whose moveset I have yet to confirm. I'm trying out charm to force switches out from physical attackers. It works great on arceus/rayquaza/groudon/tyranitar, especially those that are paralyzed and get FP such that even swords dance does not allow them to stat up enough to counter charm.
The problem is that charm is incompatible with Seismic toss and wish, which leaves chansey as taunt-bait. So far I'm not missing seismic toss as focuspunch palkia are rare, but will be problematic if i see them. Wish has been sorely missed to heal up kyogre or provide safe switches for my other walls (arceus/skarmory/mewtwo). However I'm still trying out charm for now as it has been pretty useful, and allows me to use heal bell. Thunderwave +softboil combined with chansey's bulk allows me to annoy the hell out of opponents as nothing unboosted can ohko chansey.

Mewtwo.png

Mewtwo @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 204 HP / 128 SDef / 176 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute

Stalltwo is awesome, but suffers from being revenge killed often. Thanks to many low-pp moves in the metagame, the combination of substitute+recover+pressure easily stalls out moves such as waterspout/spacialrend/boltstrike/blueflare/gyroball and opponents have to repeatedly switch out, allowing me to spread more burns. Against paralyzed opponents, I'll have to sub/recover stall or switch out if it has high pp moves. Taunt prevents stat-ups from paralyzed pokemon as well, and is especially awesome when i double switch mewtwo in just as the opponent sends in ferrothorn. I tried psystrike over taunt for a while, thinking that substitute is enough to counter ferrothorn's thunderwave/leechseed, but it cannot prevent spikes or enemy gliscor from taunting. Even without psystrike as an attacking option, taunt+substitute+recover is enough to ppstall most opponents and force switches.

Ubers

Arceus
Physical Arceus: If they come in on blissey, i open with thunderwave and switch to skarmory to phaze them out. In later stages, taunt skarmory prevents them from using recover.
Special Arceus: Paralyze arceus, get kyogre on a safe switch in. Mewtwo can also come in to start the sub/recover cycle until they decide to switch out.

Blaziken: Kyogre sets up rain first, Arceus-Poison then takes care of it.

Darkrai: Usually a lead. Described in previous post. Kyogre can revenge kill when needed.

Deoxys: See previous post

Deoxys-A: See previous post

Dialga: Most leads are paralyzed first. chansey can come in to take all special hits and paralyze. Arceus-poison takes 80% from dracometeor and is faster to recover off the damage.

Garchomp: Skarmory. Garchomp cannot 1hko dialga, arceus but is 1hko in return. Cannot switch into kyogre/mewtwo. If switch into chansey's charm its worthless as well.

Giratina:
Stall: WoW is healed by chansey, if giratina is paralyzed skarmory can taunt, mewtwo substitute
CM: Paralyze and phaze out with skarmory

Giratina-O:
Skarmory/Chansey can take the hits. Arceus is not ohko by anything and can recover off the damage and icebeam/WoW

Groudon:
Leads are 2hko by dialga. Arceus/mewtwo can WoW, Chansey charm, kyogre revenge kill. Skarmory phazes out and takes 50+% from firepunch.

Ho-Oh: Slight threat if they use bravebird more than sacred fire. I can usually have kyogre change the weather. Usually ho-oh likes to come in on my dialga's thunderwave. Switch to skarmory on earthquake, kyogre on sacred fire. Subsequently a paralyzed ho-oh is easily handled and cannot come in on chansey due to charm. Mewtwo sub+recover to stall out sacred fire pp.

Kyogre: Chansey takes all manners of hits. Hopefully dialga paralyzes it from the start.

Lugia: Can't do anything to skarmory/arceus-poison. Just waiting to be statused and then its easy to handle. Lugia is good against offensive teams but not very effective against other stall teams.

Manaphy: Damn this thing. Major threat as my only answer in the rain is thunder kyogre which doesn't ohko either.

Mewtwo: My own mewtwo usually forces it out, kyogre revenge kills. Thunderwave works great to screw up mewtwo's momentum

Palkia: Chansey. Focuspunch versions will be problematic though.

Rayquaza: Arceus-poison can survive Jolly Rayquaza Lifeorb Earthquake at +1. Life orb versions after paralyzed can be killed by dialga. DD versions that come in on chansey will only get their attack lowered by charm.

Reshiram: Chansey. Arceus is not ohko by draco meteor either. Stealthrock and thunderwave screw up this guy completely.

Shaymin-S: Skarmory, arceus, chansey work together to survive all manners of hits from scarf shaymin. Leechseed shaymin is just another opportunity to set up spikes

Zekrom: Scarf zekrom cannot ohko mewtwo/arceus and are WoW. Dialga can also take boltstrike and hopefully twave zekrom on a switchin. The important thing with chansey is to spam twave everywhere on any team without groudon and proceed to charm zekrom till its sad.

Blissey: Chansey switches in first and can twave other switch ins or healbell. Skarmory and mewtwo act as stallbreakers.

Chansey: see blissey

Excadrill: Damn this guy on sandstorm teams. I need to rely on having it earthquake my Arceus/mewtwo and hoping WoW doesn't miss. Kyogre can come into change weather/revenge kill if ttar is down.

Espeon: Play carefully with dialga and spam dragonpulse in the first few turns instead of setting up SR/twave

Whimsicott: Waste its leechseed pp and keep my own pokemon healthy until it gives up.

Forretress: Skarmory and mewtwo should spam taunt on this guy to prevent spikes from setting up. Its important to double switch mewtwo to chase it out. For example forretress always comes in on chansey. Arceus-poison cleans up the toxic spikes.

Gastrodon: Mewtwo/arceus poison WoW it

Haxorus: Paralyze --> skarmory

Heatran: Doesn't do much beside set up rocks.

Heracross: Arceus-poison takes closecombat like a man.

Jirachi: Avoid paralyzing jirachi but rather burn it and its easy to handle from there. CM variants are handled by mewtwo - taunt + WOW

Kingdra: Arceus-poison can take hits, chansey charm>dragon dance. Dialga also survives hits and ohko back with dragonpulse

Kyurem: Chansey/dialga

Latias: Paralyze and switch in dialga

Latios: see latias

Lucario: Arceus-poison WoW

Ludicolo: chansey takes hits, thunderwave, stall leechseed pp.

Mew: no one uses this right? At least mewtwo can outspeed and taunt bp versions.

Metagross: Skarmory/arceus-poison

Ferrothorn: Dialga fireblast, skarmory and mewtwo taunt. Be sure to switch one of these 3 in on a predicted ferrothorn switch in (always on blissey)

Scizor: Arceus/skarmory

Skarmory: Cannot come in on dialga/arceus/mewtwo/kyogre. Blissey gets a chance to paralyze it, skarmory taunt the opponent.

Tentacruel: Usually comes in on dialga to get paralyzed. i hit it with dragon pulse a few times then switch in arceus-poison to take the toxic spikes. if no toxicspikes are down, mewtwo comes in and sets up a free sub as they switch out.

Terrakion: arceus poison/skarmory

Thundurus: dialga/chansey

Tyranitar: arceus poison can take all kinds of hits from tyranitar. skarmory can wall most, kyogre can revenge kill. Tyranitar finds it hard to switch into chansey's twave+charm combination, and doesn't like burn from mewtwo behind a sub either.

Wobbuffett: No comment.

If you are stacking hazards why dont you use a spinblocker? Bump the speed evs on kyogre upto 204..This lets it outspeed deoxys-a which can cause problems for your team. Also place the remaining evs in defense instead of hp. This gives you a higher chance of surviving Cloyster's rock blast and hp is depleted every time you come in seeing as SR is usually up. Just a note, some players lead with Rock Polish Groudon to make the opponent think its the support set so you could potentially lose Dialga in a lead matchup. Substitute Calm Mind Giratina-O with Dragon Pulse and Thunder could also be problematic as it beats your entire team. If it sets up on say chansey then you will most llike lose at least two members of your team.Since you are not using a spin blocker spikestacking is not a good idea. So i suggest you try Specially defensive jirachi over skarmory. It can wall deoxys-a in the rain and can also beat giratina-o. Use roar over sludge bomb on Poison Arceus.

Tried out jirachi for a few battles, but never liked it because chansey is enough as a special wall, and jirachi just wasn't cutting it out. During this process, I also changed kyogre to a bulky attacker because I lost my main switch in to groudon (skarmory). Restalk kyogre provided a reliable way to counter groudon and has been a great late game sweeper as well.

I decided to shift from abusing paralysis to poison instead, as paralyzed opponents have often made it pissing for mewtwo to do its job well, as its only mode of dealing damage was WoW. I replaced substitute with psystrike, which was absolutely necessary to handle a paralyzed tentacruel. Eventually I gave up on the whole paralysis concept and changed over to toxic damage to wear down opponents while stalling.

Thus, I decided to swap jirachi out for forretress, who acted as my spinner AND spiker at the same time. Since i needed a solid spin blocker, and I could now handle toxic spikes via forretress, arceus was changed to a ghost type. Meanwhile I badly missed the old substitute Mewtwo that had the devastating sub+recover combination. I kept psystrike, and wanted to try out calm mind mewtwo. The unpredictability of mewtwo prevents the usual counters from switching in and has net many kills.

After a day of laddering, I managed to peak at #6, stopping for the night.

Presenting the updated team:

dialga.png

Dialga @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SAtk / 140 SDef / 20 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Thunder Wave

Dialga has retained thunderwave, but now I am extremely careful with which pokemon to paralyze. Generally I only thunderwave other dialga leads, and try to find ways to inflict WoW on other steels, and toxic on those immune to toxic spikes. Against lead psychokiller mewtwo, I can take an aurasphere and thunderwave back, switching into arceus-ghost the next turn to ko with judgment.
Perhaps the only possible change I could think of is swapping out thunderwave as its seeing less use due to my efforts to inflict burn or poison instead, but dragon pulse and fireblast provide enough coverage to 2hko many other leads. Perhaps aura sphere to 2hko other dialga? or draco meteor?

25_Kyogre.jpg

Kyogre @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Kyogre has to be able to switch in multiple times to threats such as groudon and tyranitar to change the weather to my favor. It has occassionally also been able to survive hits from +2 arceus/excadrill/rayquaza to save my ass.
Although my team now lacks a revenge killer, so far the team has been solid enough to withstand offensive threats. For Darkrai, I let dialga take the sleep, a combination of forretress and chansey's with toxic takes it down. Psychokiller mewtwo does not live long either under poison with smart switching between forretress/mewtwo for psystrike and arceus-ghost for aurasphere. Thus far I find that such a bulky kyogre will be overall more useful than having a revenge killing scarf kyogre.

493ghost.png

Arceus-Ghost @ Spooky Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Judgment
- Roar

My new spin blocker, which is still somewhat able to fulfill its role of countering rayquaza and is now no longer weak to earthquake either, making it another solid switch in to groudon. Arceus-ghost is also my answer to blaziken (make sure kyogre switches in first to change weather during SD) and physical threats such as terrakion, ho-oh and arceus. Arceus requires a status to be put down, and during early-mid game before toxic spikes are up I have to phaze arceus out first, as a WoW miss at this point will cost me the entire match. Thankfully Arceus-ghost takes <50% from a +2 shadowclaw.
After toxic spikes are down, switcihng between arceus-ghost and chansey to defend from extremespeed/brickbreak and shadowclaw/shadow force takes down the enemy arceus.

WoW is necessary to limit enemy ferrothorn, forretress and tentacruel, allowing me to win the entry hazards war eventually. It also has a super effective judgment against the common spin blocker - giratina.

205.gif

Forretress (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic

The most important member of the team. Toxic spikes is vital towards taking down a whole list of enemies: darkrai, arceus, groudon, kyogre, mewtwo; basically anything that is affected by toxicspikes. I keep forretress as healthy as possible with wish support from chansey and cannot afford to lose it in matches. Toxic is there to nail those giratina/lugia switch-ins and other flyers, or when I have not set up toxic spikes yet.
Lastly, forretress is also my answer to those annoying lead deoxys-s with taunt.

Chansey_by_Xous54.png

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Seismic Toss
- Softboiled
- Wish
- Toxic

Chansey without charm, as I realised that charm wasn't quite as useful enough to warrant the loss of wish and seismic toss. Toxic is also on chansey to inflict poison on switchins before toxic spikes are up, especially on targets such as arceus/groudon/rayquaza. Without toxic, arceus/rayquaza would have a field day with me.

Mewtwo.png

Mewtwo @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 204 HP / 128 SDef / 176 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Psystrike
- Recover
- Calm Mind

Last but not least, a mono attacking mewtwo. Substitute+recover is an amazing combination. It absolutely rapes forretress (gyro ball has 4pp in the face of pressure), giving me free substitutes as long as I do not switch in on a leechseed. If the opponent is burnt by arceus, I can also be strong on the physical side while boosting myself with calm mind. This mewtwo can come in anytime.
Early game if the enemy has no dark types on pokemon such as paralyzed dialga/forretress/skarmory/tentacruel/mewtwo. If the enemy has a darkrai, then at least 1 layer of toxic spikes is needed before I try to bring mewtwo in. Substitute+recover with toxic spikes ensures that even darkrai cannot even stop mewtwo. by the time they realise that i only have one attack, Mewtwo is at +3 or +4 to tank through dark pulse.
If i bring out mewtwo late game when the enemy is totally weakened, mewtwo can also act as a late game sweeper, making it an extremely versatile pokemon. Pokemon such as skarmory who take pittance from psystrike won't even switch in to phaze mewtwo as they wont expect a mono attacker.
