Introduction:
It started with trying to spread paralysis all over the opponent in an attempt to get a slower uber to sweep. The first version of my team had dialga+chansey using twave, skarmory+chansey as a defensive core, tentacruel as a spinner to keep toxic spikes off and sub-honeclaws zekrom as the sweeper. Scarf kyogre acts as the backup revenge killer for mewtwo/darkrai.
Gradually Tentacruel was found to be near useless against teams that do not stack spikes or use toxic spikes, and was only used as a switch in against kyogre waterspouts - which chansey could easily do as well.
Thus Tentacruel was replaced by Arceus-Poison, who could also absorb toxicspikes if necessary AND had better stats and utility all round.
Physically Arceus-Poison also served as a check to DDquaza which gave my team huge problems as skarmory dies to overheat. It also manages taunt-gliscor which was a pain for skarmory and blissey, as Arceus-Poison takes 30-36% from Earthquake with no EVs.
Eventually I wanted to test out Stalltwo, and it has been awesomely fun to play with. The only problem now is that WoW from Arceus and Mewtwo often clashes with Thunderwave, and Rapidspin Excadrill stops my team strategy.
Presenting the team:
Dialga @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SAtk / 140 SDef / 20 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Dragon Pulse
- Fire Blast
I almost always lead with Dialga although my team preview shows Kyogre. Dialga acts as a bulky attacker who aims to cripple as many as possible with thunderwave.
Against the top 10 uber leads from http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3462975
Kyogre: Open with Thunderwave. Switch to chansey if its specs, hit with dragon pulse if scarf. Dialga takes ~50% from scarf waterspout
Groudon: Open with fireblast, which always 2hko. Defensive groudons usually do about 70% with earthquake and my 20speed Evs make me faster than any defensive groudon i've seen.
Dialga: Open with thunderwave, proceed to exchange dragonpulse while getting a few FP in.
Darkrai: If Dark Void misses, then Darkrai is nicely paralyzed. If Dark Void hits, Kyogre can come in to kill.
Deoxys-S: 2hko with dragonpulse. Most use taunt on first turn and will only get 1 layer of SR down.
Tyranitar: Thunderwave, Stealthrock and see what the opponent switches in
Mewtwo: Thunderwave cripples mewtwo completely
Ferrothorn: Fireblast. Although I usually thunderwave/SR first turn as most ferrothorn will switch out or use protect. If they protect and see that I didn't use fireblast, they usually stay the 2nd turn to eat fireblast.
Deoxys-A: Superpower does ~80%. I usually thunderwave first turn and do some smart switching around Arceus-Poison and Chansey to get rid of this guy.
Forretress: Fireblast the first turn, Stealthrock as they switch out the 2nd turn. Arceus Poison takes care of any toxic spikes.
Kyogre @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 64 HP / 252 SAtk / 192 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Water Spout
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
Every team needs a choice scarfer as a backup to threats. Kyogre fulfills this role, taking care of darkrai, psycho killer mewtwo, choice locked kyogre, etc. Is also one of my switch in to ho-oh who is hopefully paralyzed by then. Speed EVs enough to hit 396, rest into HP to take hits. No need to max out speed as the stall team is supposed to stay healthy at all times and I try to avoid speedtiers.
Arceus-Poiso (Arceus-Poison) @ Toxic Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Sludge Bomb
- Will-O-Wisp
Checks rayquaza, gliscor, takes toxic spikes, physical attacks such as closecombat and spreads burn nicely.
I'm still trying to figure out the best moveset for Arceus. Recover and icebeam have to stay. WoW has occassionally conflicted with thunderwave but has proved useful. On the sludge bomb slot i've considered judgement/toxic/roar, but am trying out sludge bomb for now to inflict damage while having the chance to poison, although recently i just missed on the KO on a kyogre which cost me my match. Toxic could provide a more reliable way of status, but I think that I'll use WoW more often. Roar is great as Arceus forces switches often. I'm also considering surf/flamethrower for excadrill which cannot ohko with earthquake anyway.
Anyway hoping to get some feedback on Arceus-poison to mend the holes in my team.
Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 178 Def / 80 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Whirlwind
- Roost
A great switch in to all physical attackers such as Groudon/Arceus/Garchomp/Heracross/Scizor/Terrakion. Also works as a great switch in to ferrothorn who usually leechseed on my switch in, allowing me to taunt and prevent spikes from being set up. Taunt also works great on pokemon like Skarmory/Chansey/Forretress. Extremekiller Arceus when paralyzed is also taunt-able.
Taunt gliscor recently posed problems but i've learnt to counter it by taunting when gliscor switches in, forcing gliscor to switch out. The key is to spam taunt on those damn gliscor teams. Kyogre and Arceus-Poison can come in on turns where gliscor safely switches in and tries to taunt my skarmory.
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Charm
- Softboiled
- Heal Bell
- Thunder Wave
Another pokemon whose moveset I have yet to confirm. I'm trying out charm to force switches out from physical attackers. It works great on arceus/rayquaza/groudon/tyranitar, especially those that are paralyzed and get FP such that even swords dance does not allow them to stat up enough to counter charm.
The problem is that charm is incompatible with Seismic toss and wish, which leaves chansey as taunt-bait. So far I'm not missing seismic toss as focuspunch palkia are rare, but will be problematic if i see them. Wish has been sorely missed to heal up kyogre or provide safe switches for my other walls (arceus/skarmory/mewtwo). However I'm still trying out charm for now as it has been pretty useful, and allows me to use heal bell. Thunderwave +softboil combined with chansey's bulk allows me to annoy the hell out of opponents as nothing unboosted can ohko chansey.
Mewtwo @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 204 HP / 128 SDef / 176 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute
Stalltwo is awesome, but suffers from being revenge killed often. Thanks to many low-pp moves in the metagame, the combination of substitute+recover+pressure easily stalls out moves such as waterspout/spacialrend/boltstrike/blueflare/gyroball and opponents have to repeatedly switch out, allowing me to spread more burns. Against paralyzed opponents, I'll have to sub/recover stall or switch out if it has high pp moves. Taunt prevents stat-ups from paralyzed pokemon as well, and is especially awesome when i double switch mewtwo in just as the opponent sends in ferrothorn. I tried psystrike over taunt for a while, thinking that substitute is enough to counter ferrothorn's thunderwave/leechseed, but it cannot prevent spikes or enemy gliscor from taunting. Even without psystrike as an attacking option, taunt+substitute+recover is enough to ppstall most opponents and force switches.
