Possessing the highest offensive stats in Gen 9 and incredible Speed, Deoxys-A sets itself apart with its ability to clean through opposing Pokemon. Along with Psycho Boost, Shadow Ball hits Pokemon like Necrozma-DM, Low Kick hits Dark- and Normal-types like Ting-Lu, Blissey, and Arceus, and Rock Slide hits Ho-Oh, meaning many typical defensive presences in the tier cannot handle Deoxys-A without committing to Terastallization. Deoxys-A typically opts for Tera Ghost, not only to amplify the power of Shadow Ball, but also to provide an emergency option against Extreme Killer Arceus and Rayquaza. Life Orb maximizes Deoxys-A's wallbreaking power, but a Focus Sash can also be chosen to increase Deoxys-A's efficacy as a devastating lead. Deoxys-A's many amazing traits are counterbalanced by its very pitiful bulk, so priority users like Shadow Sneak Giratina-O or faster Choice Scarf users like Koraidon present major problems. This makes defensive Arceus types such as Water and Fairy great teammates due to their ability to come in against these threats. Conversely, sweepers like Koraidon pair well with Deoxys-A, as they can overwhelm Ho-Oh and certain Arceus formes that can otherwise withstand Deoxys-A's attacks.
