[OVERVIEW]

Jynx's decent speed, fantastic Psychic/Ice typing, and access to a reliable sleep move in Lovely Kiss make it a very effective sleeper. It matches up well against common leads such as Zapdos, Mewtwo, Alakazam, and Starmie. Jynx also benefits from the lower usage of Starmie and Chansey compared to OU, making its STAB Blizzard much harder to switch into. Jynx's Blizzard threatens many common foes such as Tauros, Snorlax, and Exeggutor, giving it great offensive potential post-sleep. Although Mewtwo can wall Blizzard, not all Mewtwo run Recover, and unparalyzed Mewtwo risks getting frozen. On the defensive side, Jynx is able to switch into foes like Cloyster, Articuno, and Mewtwo lacking Amnesia, taking advantage of its resistances to Psychic- and Ice-type moves and freeze immunity.

Although Jynx is threatening offensively, it suffers from its frailty and lack of support options outside of sleep. Nearly every physical attacker 2HKOes it, and it is crucially outsped by Mew. Jynx can turn its physical frailty into an advantage by using Counter, but it has to lower its Defense stat to guarantee an OHKO on a countered Tauros Body Slam, making its issues with frailty even worse. One especially tricky lead matchup for Jynx is Gengar, which outspeeds Jynx, allowing it to sleep Jynx first. Gengar can also use Explosion on the first turn which nearly always KOes Jynx, letting it remove Jynx without relying on Hypnosis's 60% accuracy. Jynx also has no reliable way to spread paralysis, having to rely on the 30% paralysis chance of a very weak Body Slam. This means although Jynx can switch into Mewtwo, it can't really threaten it outside of sleep, making it setup fodder. Other sleepers do not have this issue. Chansey can spread paralysis with Thunder Wave, Gengar threatens Explosion, and Exeggutor is able to threaten both paralysis and Explosion. Even more niche sleepers like Hypno and Victreebel can still reliably spread paralysis. Jynx is very good at landing sleep and threatening damage with STAB Blizzard, but offers little else to a team, preventing it from being a top pokemon in the metagame.

Set Description
=========
Lovely Kiss is essential for Jynx since sleep is its most important tool. Jynx should prioritize landing Lovely Kiss against several leads, including Alakazam, Starmie, Hypno, Mew, and Mewtwo. Blizzard is Jynx's best attacking move in Ubers. After Jynx lands Lovely Kiss, the opponent is generally forced to switch a Pokemon directly into Jynx's Blizzard. Although an unparalyzed Mewtwo can switch in relatively safely, it does not appreciate taking chip damage if it lacks Recover. Even if it has Recover, Mewtwo still risks getting frozen on the switch. If Jynx fails to freeze Mewtwo, it should generally switch out immediately to a teammate like Chansey or Thunder Wave variants of Mew and Mewtwo to prevent being setup fodder. If Jynx landed Lovely Kiss on an Ice-resistant foe, such as Starmie or opposing Jynx, the opponent may try to capitalize on the Blizzard resistance and burn sleep turns. This can be punished by immediately switching to a teammate post-sleep, such as Tauros for immediate pressure, or Mewtwo for free setup. Against Zapdos and Exeggutor leads, Jynx can opt to use Blizzard immediately and try to land Lovely Kiss on something else. Zapdos needs a critical hit with Drill Peck to break through, while Exeggutor needs to not get hit by a critical hit Blizzard and land Sleep Powder.

Psychic is Jynx's secondary STAB move. It prevents Jynx from being walled by Cloyster and the chance for a Special drop can make Jynx's Blizzard hit even harder. For example, Blizzard has an 80.8% chance to 2HKO Mew at -1 special. Jynx can also use Psychic instead of Lovely Kiss against Gengar leads, as a Hypnosis miss followed up Gengar taking a Psychic incentivizes the Gengar to use Explosion on the second turn, which can open up potential teammates that Gengar otherwise walls. Jynx can run Counter as a surprise option against lead Tauros. If Jynx lowers its Defense stat to 154, a countered Body Slam is guaranteed to KO Tauros, giving the Jynx user a huge head start. Dropping Jynx's defense comes with a risk though, as a critical hit Body Slam is guaranteed to KO. Additionally, many lead Tauros sets run Stomp to attempt to flinch Jynx, and a countered Stomp will not KO Tauros. Tauros can also scout Counter with Earthquake, so Jynx should still use Lovely Kiss from time to time to not be predictable. Jynx should also always use Lovely Kiss on Zapdos if it lowers its Defense stat, as Zapdos now has an 80.8% chance to 2HKO Jynx with Drill Peck. Jynx can also run Body Slam to attempt to paralyze a Mewtwo switching in post-sleep. If Jynx is successful, it can generate a lot of momentum for its team, and a Body Slam paralysis is over three times as likely to happen as a Blizzard freeze, making this more consistent.

Several factors may prevent Jynx from landing sleep safely, such as Gengar outspeeing and landing the first Hypnosis, a turn 1 Explosion from Gengar, Mew or Mewtwo leads, Tauros landing a critical hit or flinching with Stomp, or simply being unlucky and not landing Lovely Kiss. As a result, Exeggutor is a great backup sleeper for lead Jynx. If Jynx lands sleep sucessfully, Exeggutor can be played more agressively, such as switching into Swords Dance Mew and threatening paralysis and Explosion. Since Jynx may give free setup to Mewtwo if not careful, it appreciates Mewtwo and Mew carrying Thunder Wave to prevent the opposing Mewtwo from getting out of hand. Mewtwo and Mew can also spread paralysis earlier in a game if Jynx lands sleep instantly. Jynx can also be run in the back with Mew or Mewtwo in the lead slot. If the leading Mew or Mewtwo trades with the opposing lead with Self-Destruct or Explosion, a common response is to bring in Exeggutor, which Jynx outspeeds and can sleep, which also denies the opponent's own sleep.

Other Options
=============
Jynx can run Ice Beam over or alongside Blizzard as its increased accuracy and higher PP makes it more effective than Blizzard at freezing. However, Jynx hardly runs out of Blizzard PP in Ubers to begin with, and running Ice Beam over Blizzard makes Jynx miss out on damage tresholds, such as the 3HKO on Mew. Jynx can run Rest which it can generally use safely on Mewtwo lacking Amnesia, but it still offers free setup to Swords Dance Mew and Mewtwo with Amnesia. The chance for special drops with Psychic and critical hits with Thunderbolt mean Jynx won't actually wall Mewtwo in the long-term. The more offensive nature of Ubers compared to OU makes it difficult for Jynx to safely wake up, which is why it generally opts for 3 attacks.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Gengar**: Gengar outspeeds Jynx and has Hypnosis, letting it sleep Jynx before it can act. Gengar can also use Explosion to avoid risking Hypnosis's faulty accuracy, but the Jynx user can predict this and switch to a bulkier teammate to catch the Explosion.

**Physical attackers**: Tauros outspeeds Jynx and can attempt to flinch it with Stomp, reducing Lovely Kiss's accuracy to an effective 52.5%. Stomp followed up by Hyper Beam KOes Jynx. Jynx can run Counter to improve this matchup, but Tauros can predict this with using Earthquake Turn 1. If Jynx is paralyzed, its physical frailty can be exploited by Pokemon such as Snorlax and Rhydon once Jynx is paralyzed.

**Amnesia Users**: Jynx has no reliable way to threaten Amnesia Mewtwo outside of sleep, allowing Mewtwo to switch in and set up Amnesia for free. Slowbro can also switch into Jynx, resisting its dual STAB combination, and set up. Both of these Pokemon need to watch out for freeze, though, and Mewtwo often does not like Body Slam paralysis.

**Recovery Users**: Chansey, Starmie, and to a lesser extent Mew and Alakazam can comfortably switch into Jynx and use either Recover or Soft-boiled to stall out Blizzard. All four Pokemon threaten paralysis on Jynx, though they all risk getten frozen, and all except Chansey risk getting paralyzed by Body Slam.

**Cloyster**: Cloyster does not normally check Jynx. However, if Jynx has revealed a set of Lovely Kiss, Blizzard, Body Slam, and Counter, Cloyster can now comfortably switch in and wall Jynx.
