Ubers RMT: Sandstorm

Hi, and welcome to my RMT for my ubers team. I have been using this team a fair bit, making a lot of edits along the way. It has gotten me a rating of 1883 on the ubers ladder, and I was wondering if there are any other ways to improve the team to make it that little bit better. So onto the team building.

I absolutely love excadrill and his power to late game sweep in sandstorm. I use an adamant life orb set which absolutely wrecks. Obviously with Excadrill comes Sandstorm.

Tyranitar is obviously necessary for excadrill to do it's work. I also find it helps to change the opponent's weather to something not so suitable for their team i.e. Sun and Rain.

I then decided to add an offensive core to the team, being mamoswine and zekrom. Mamoswine is powerful in ubers, due to the presence of a lot of dragons, meaning ice shard can wreck. I have an adamant Life Orb mamoswine with a choice band zekrom.

I wanted the presence of a rapid spinner in this original team, and something which could lay up spikes. Forretress was the first pokemon which came to mind. It also had volt switch, which gave me switch initiative too.

Finally, I needed a spin blocker. I also noticed I didn't have any special offensive presence. So I decided to add a calm mind ghost arceus to the team. Once this thing sets up, it absolutely wrecks.

I realised I had a massive weakness to Kyogres and Groudons. I didn't have a solid switch-in to take any of their attacks. I played around with ferrothorn and a scarf palkia, but I finally settled with a Latias. It is one of the only solid switch-ins to a kyogre, and it does a good damn job of it.

Finally, I had no physical wall and I had no more spiker. Extremekiller Arceus became a real problem to me. There was no better solution than Skarmory. So Skarmory has found a place on the team, completely walling Arceus ghost. And this is my final version of my team

Now that I have discussed my team building process, time to look at them individually.

Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 114 Atk / 142 SDef
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Thunder Wave
- Superpower

Tyranitar is clearly the pokemon to set up sandstorm for a late-game excadrill sweep. It also prevents my opponent from having any advantageous weather for themself (yes, I'm looking at you Kyogre). The lum berry + Superpower allows me to deal with any lead darkrai, OHKOing, regardless of a focus sash. Tyranitar can also reliably set up stealth rock, due to its ability to switch in to a lot of special attackers. Thunder Wave is an interesting move to cripple anything I know which will switch in on tyranitar. Finally, Crunch is just a stab move. I may consider replacing Crunch/Thunder Wave with Fire Blast/Stone Edge for more coverage.

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature
- Taunt
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind

Skarmory is a very solid wall in the ubers tier when put up against physical attackers. It's main purpose is to shut down ExtremeKiller Arceus and setting up spikes all over the place. Whirlwind phazes out pokemon to let hazards stack up damage, and taunt is to stop any ferrothorn or over slower pokemon. Roost is clearly for reliable recovery.

478.png

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Trait: Oblivious
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Icicle Spear

This. Thing. Is. Powerful. That's all there is to it. Ice shard is a great priority move, hitting a lot of dragons in ubers and killing off any weakened opponents. Earthquake is a great stab move, even OHKOing most Dialga. Icicle Crash is a powerful Ice STAB move which hits lugia hard. finally, Icicle spear is for any pokemon which decides to set up a sub, since superpower doesn't really hit anything which another move would.

558.png

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin

Excadrill is a great late game sweeper if I have my sandstorm up. Swords Dance can be used if I'm predicting a switch to clean up better. Earthquake and Rock slide provide good coverage. I used to have iron head previously for more coverage, but it wasn't ever that useful. I also lacked a rapid spinner after all the changes, so I replaced Iron Head with rapid spin. It works well if the hazards are really hurting me, but sometimes, I don't bother.

380.png

Latias (F) @ Soul Dew
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Latias is a necessity for this team, tanking hits from Kyogre. Kyogre has caused many problems in the past, and a choice palkia let my opponent have too much freedom to set up. Latias can also have an attempt to have a late game sweep, but this is rare. I had Roar previously to phaze out pokemon, but I decided to try out Hidden Power fire to hit any skarmory or ferrothorn hard. This hasn't been tested much, so I'm not sure how that will go.

513.png

Arceus-Ghost @ Spooky Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Judgment
- Recover
- Focus Blast

Arceus ghost is my spin blocker while also having the possibility of being a set-up sweeper. It also tanks hits well, so if I'm really having trouble deciding what to do, I just let Arceus take a hit for me to scout. Recover provides reliable recovery. Judgement can hit hard, being a stab move. Focus blast gives me coverage for any dark, normal, or steel types and calm mind sets up for late game sweeps. Arceus ghost also has an immunity to any fighting type moves aimed at my excadrill/mamoswine/tyranitar. The fighting immunity has come in handy so many times.

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Trait: Oblivious
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Icicle Spear

Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 114 Atk / 142 SDef
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Thunder Wave
- Superpower

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin

Latias (F) @ Soul Dew
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature
- Taunt
- Roost
- Spikes
- Whirlwind

Arceus-Ghost @ Spooky Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Judgment
- Recover
- Focus Blast

Certain threats to this team that I have noticed include the following:

Rayquaza
Rayquaza has a lot of coverage, having earthquake, outrage and V-create, all of which can annihilate my team. My only way to check it is with mamoswine and ice shard, but something will most likely die if mamoswine isn't already in play.

Darkrai
Once darkrai forces something to sleep and sets up a sub, it becomes extremely difficult for me to kill. Again, something will have to die if I can't deal with it. My only secure way is for tyranitar to superpower it after the lum berry is used up. Otherwise, something dies. Simple as that.

There are others out there, but I can't recall them at the moment. I'm considering running a scarf genesect over mamoswine, which gives me switch initiative, but the lack of priority might affect my team.

Ho-Oh gives your team a lot of trouble.

On Tyranitar you gain some attack points by running adamant instead of careful, 252HP/4+ATK/252SpDef gives you three more attack points. But i would suggest the standard spread 252HP/76Atk/192SpDef, with a careful nature. You can still OHKO Darkrai.
On Mamoswine, i recommend Substitute over Icicle Spear, as Mamoswine forces a lot of switches. Substitute eases prediction too. What is Icicle Spear gonna hit anyways, Lugia behind a sub?
Use either 252Hp/4SpAtk/252Spe Timid or 4Hp/252SpAtk/252Spe timid on Arceus. The ability to speed tie with other Arceus is very important. Currently you cannot even outspeed max speed base 90s.
