Hello all! It's about time Ubers UU has done it's own Next Best Thing, and now I believe is the best time to get started!

The Next Best Thing (NBT) is a community-led project intended to encourage innovation for Pokemon in ways never seen before. Users will submit sets for the Pokemon of the week that are not listed on their Smogdex pages, where they can choose new items, moves, EV spreads or Abilities. I encourage creativity but also carefully consider viability! The host (me) can choose to reject any sets I seem to be garbage, though anything thoroughly explained is likely to be accepted. Please read the Procedures and Rules of the thread before submitting a set!

  • Every cycle (1 per week), a new Pokemon will be chosen for participants to create a new set for. All the existing sets (or WIPs) on the Smogdex are banned, so make sure to double check before submitting. (This includes move variations listed).
  • Participants have 4 days to submit their sets in this thread, starting on Friday and running until Monday.
  • Voting will occur during the remaining three days of the week, from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • All the winning sets will be kept in the Hall of Fame (see next reply).

Set Rules
Be as creative as possible, but your creativity must also show viability. Don't make a set solely to make a set!
  • You may only post 1 set per cycle. If you wish to change sets, delete your original post and notify me!
  • As mentioned above, do not take sets from Smogdex!
  • You must explain your set in detail. It is recommended to include a replays and/or notable calcs of the set in action, and you are welcome to include teammates options, threats, usage tips, & even a team built around the set. Your set may be excluded from the ballot if it does not have sufficient explanation of why someone would use it.
  • You are allowed to reserve your set in this forum, but the reservation expires after 24 hours. Please have your description complete before after this point.
  • Please name your sets based on the moves and items, and not random funny names. If no set name is provided then only your profile name will appear on the ballot.
  • You aren't allowed to copy anyone else's set.
Voting Rules
  • Follow the guidelines for voting specified each week. If multiple votes are allowed, you may still choose to only vote for one set if you wish.
  • You can't vote for your own set.
  • No vote manipulation.
Other
  • If you have any questions, please ask in DMs, Smogon profile, or Discord.
  • Consider a 'Like' reaction to mean your post is approved, or 'Angry' to mean it needs changed or deleted.
  • Follow the Forum Rules and be polite with other members here.
  • Have fun! Any and all engagement is really appreciated.

With one of the deepest movepools in the entire series and an incredibly flexible stat spread, you will have no shortage of options to choose from for NBT's first round Pokemon. What better Pokemon to start off with than...

Mewtwo!
:Mewtwo:

(Magearna was also a good option)

yayayyayy this looks cool.
so idk this set might be dicks but here it is:

annoying bitch (Mewtwo) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark / Fairy
EVs: 68 HP / 252 SpA / 188 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psystrike
- Knock Off
- Taunt
- Recover

yeah yeah it can't really touch arc but like, if arc gets taunted on the switch in, all it can really do is click a flacid judgment into your resist and there's no threat of it doing CM taunt shenanigans. This set also sort of thuds into Mag but at least you've knocked it off and you can just taunt it so that it can't spike or twave or whatever. Fleur Cannon and vswitch chip hurts but you got recover to offset all that. I'm also just not sure that you need more than 188 timid for any m2 set really. 188 timid outspeeds cyclizar which is a niche but kind of real thing to face. You could also just go like, 176 timid to outspeed base 120 and get 12 more evs to invest in bulk cause cyclizar doesn't stay in on M2 unless it's scarf. Tera Dark boosts koff damage and super goobs NDW while also providing a dark resist, but Tera Fairy can also be used to keep your fighting resistance and also not weak to Fairy.

Uhh like ngl this set isn't supposed to do big damage or whatever but like, Psystrike still sort of fucks poison types. Really helpful to have against tera poison CM arcs asw.
  • 252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Arceus-Poison: 318-374 (71.7 - 84.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Toxapex: 200-236 (66 - 77.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowking-Galar: 154-183 (39 - 46.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • 0- Atk Mewtwo Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma-Dawn-Wings: 189-225 (47.4 - 56.5%) -- 84.8% chance to 2HKO
like, this set isn't really aiming to be a wallbreaker or anything. If you want wallbreaker m2 just go like NP or lorb. This set is good at fucking with the opponent and getting big chip. You also deny recovers and shit with taunt so that chip you're getting is staying. It's pretty good if you can keep spikes up on the field cause then you really start fucking with your opp
  • 252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowking-Galar: 154-183 (39 - 46.4%) -- 73.4% chance to 2HKO after 2 layers of Spikes
  • 252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Magearna: 60-72 (16.4 - 19.7%) + 25% from 3 spikes = 31.4 - 44.7%
  • 252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Arceus-Grass: 159-187 (35.8 - 42.2%) -- 84% chance to 2HKO after 3 layers of Spikes
And yeah getting 3 spikes isn't super realistic, but even with just 1 spike, you're still getting really good chip cause you taunt their recover and they can't heal.

Mamotwo (Mewtwo) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Recover/Taunt
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power

Mm yes I do like hitting so many defensive pokemon super effectively.

Electriceus, Grassceus, Poisonceus
Dialga
Landorus/Lando-T
Magearna
Zamazenta-Crowned
Garganacl
Gholdengo
Great Tusk
Slowking-Galar

Ice/Ground coverage goes crazy, and tera ground okay defensively. This makes a great partner with a zacian who want to force basically any of these out so your m2 has a free kill sitting on a platter.

SubWave (Mewtwo) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Psystrike
- Focus Blast

Being able to send a fast TWave and Substituting in front of many things that don't want to stay in is VERY useful. Psystrike and Focus Blast is very good coverage combined, so Mewtwo can afford to use two status moves, however it will struggle with breaking Magearna and Giratina
252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tera Poison Arceus-Dark: 318-374 (71.7 - 84.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Mewtwo Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Zamazenta-Crowned: 222-262 (68.3 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Zacian: 165-195 (50.7 - 60%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Mewtwo Psystrike vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Palkia: 186-219 (57.9 - 68.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Mewtwo Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Chi-Yu: 254-300 (101.1 - 119.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Beads of Ruin Chi-Yu Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Fighting Mewtwo: 106-126 (30 - 35.6%) -- 31.7% chance to 3HKO

Bulky Calm Mind (Mewtwo) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 208 HP / 112 SpA / 188 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psystrike
- Focus Blast
- Recover

This set is meant to handle :arceus-dark: better than the standard NP set. The standard NP Set risks getting 0HKO'd by Darkceus's Judgement without KOing with Focus Blast before setting up, but this set doesn't have that problem. Expert Belt and 112 SpAtk EVs helps ensure M2 KOs Darkceus without SpDef investment after a spike and CM, and Tera Fighting ensures it KOs SpDef invested Darkceus. 208 HP lets it live an unboosted Darkceus's Judgement, and 188 Speed with a Timid nature lets M2 outspeed standard :zamazenta-crowned:. Even if Darkceus is not on the opponent's team, this M2 set can handle much of the meta after a single calm mind, like Zama-C, :magearna:, :chi-yu:, :arceus-poison:, :toxapex:, :garganacl:, :landorus:, :terapagos-terastal: and when including tera fighting, :chien-pao:. However, it struggles against :necrozma-dawn-wings:, as it can't do good damage even after 1 CM. Because of a lack of Boots on this set, this M2 sets needs to be paired with a form of hazard removal, like :cyclizar: and/or Defog!:giratina:, as well as a Magearna of your own for spike support.

Mewtwo @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Flamethrower
- Psystrike

just hit everything with psystrike + mag with flamethrower and win games. A Tera Fighting Focus Blast variant to deal with darkceus is also good but it was just posted above (the one I'm posting is from my own kitchen and doesn't stink)

Mewtwo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 220 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick
- Will-O-Wisp
- Psystrike
- Fire Blast

benchmarked to outspeed hearthflame at +1, good contingency vs alot of things + speed control in 1 slot, and not a bad revenger off the back of mewtwos strong moves + high SpA. Brought it to uubd week four but didn't win due to unfortunate circumstances. Ran it on https://pokepast.es/8ec9c7d6ff99a46c this team and it put in solid work, but its a funny little set. wisp hits zacian whos faster than it by surprised, and ada dd arc sets too, while trick shuts down alot of mons like garg, pex, mandi, magearna... the list goes on.

Apologies for the delay - we are now in the voting phase! I will extend the voting by a day until Friday just in case.
