NU Umbreon

[OVERVIEW]

Umbreon's typing and defenses let it check common special attackers like Chandelure, Hisuian Typhlosion, and Meloetta. Thanks to Umbreon's access to Synchronize, Toxic users like Bellibolt, Goodra, and Quagsire struggle to stall it out one-on-one. Umbreon can pass Wish and support teammates that lack recovery like Swampert and Bronzong, and its Protect not only lets it secure Wish recovery, but it also lets it scout Choice-locked foes like Mienshao, Flygon, and Munkidori. With Toxic, Umbreon isn't a sitting duck when up against walls like Vaporeon and Bellibolt, and it helps versus bulky setup sweepers like Cresselia. While Umbreon is a great check to a variety of attackers, it is vulnerable to being worn down over time, as many things it would want to switch in on like Munkidori, Inteleon, and Bombirdier carry U-turn, costing its team momentum and forcing it to take entry hazard chip damage repeatedly. Attempting to pass Wish to a teammate can be telegraphed as well, so it can sometimes be difficult to switch teammates in safely. Fighting- and Fairy-types like Heracross and Sylveon can force Umbreon out or to Terastallize, and Poison-types like Alolan Muk and Dragalge can check it as well, as Umbreon can become fairly passive when it cannot spread poison with Toxic.

Toxic grants Umbreon a way to make progress and wear down foes like Swampert and Vaporeon, as it naturally creates openings to use it by forcing out Pokemon like Meloetta and Chandelure. Thunder Wave can also be used to spread paralysis rather than poison, limiting poison-immune foes like Alolan Muk and Registeel. Roar is another alternative, directly removing those sweepers that attempt to capitalize on Umbreon's passivity, like Bronzong and Tera Steel Cresselia. Leftovers can give Umbreon additional healing, especially when combined with Protect for additional turns. Alternatively, Heavy-Duty Boots allows Umbreon to switch in more frequently without concern for entry hazard chip. Tera Poison grants Umbreon a resistance to Fighting-, Fairy-, and Bug-type attacks that would otherwise be super effective against it, improving its matchup against foes like Mienshao and Sylveon, as well as against Pokemon that often use U-turn like Flygon. Tera Steel can be used to maintain a resistance to Psychic-type attacks after Terastallization, gain a resistance to Fairy-type attacks, and become immune to poison.

Umbreon excels as a specially defensive Pokemon, so it benefits from teammates, such as Galarian Slowbro, Talonflame, and Vileplume, that can handle common physical attackers, particularly Fighting-types like Heracross and Mienshao. Bulky teammates without reliable recovery, such as Dragalge, Tentacruel, and Swampert, also appreciate being passed Wish by Umbreon. If running Leftovers over Heavy-Duty Boots, hazard removal such as Talonflame, Tsareena, and Tentacruel are useful to keep Umbreon and its teammates healthy and prevent it from having to repeatedly use Wish to stay healthy. Poison-types like Galarian Slowbro, Dragalge, and Vileplume add resistances to Fighting- and Fairy-type attacks from the likes of Mienshao, Breloom, and Sylveon that force Umbreon out. Psychic-types like Munkidori, Meloetta, and Cresselia appreciate Umbreon's ability to switch into Ghost- and Dark-type attacks from foes like Chandelure and Incineroar.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Moonlight is an alternate option for HP recovery that frees up another moveslot but loses the ability to pass Wish to its teammates. Tera Ghost can be used to grant Umbreon an immunity to Fighting-type attacks, the ability to block Rapid Spin, and a resistance to U-turn, but it makes its matchup into fellow Dark-types much worse.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fighting-types and Fighting-type Coverage**: Foes like Mienshao, Toxicroak, and Breloom force Umbreon out, and Fighting-type coverage, such as Focus Blast from Munkidori and Body Press from Bronzong, can also be threatening.

**Fairy-types and Fairy-type Coverage**: Umbreon is weak to Pokemon like Sylveon and Diancie, and even foes it might otherwise check, such as Cresselia, can deal damage with Moonblast, especially if boosted by Tera Fairy.

**Poison-immune Foes**: Umbreon's most effective way to make progress is Toxic, and Poison- and Steel-type foes are immune to it. As a result, Alolan Muk, Dragalge, and Bronzong can cause Umbreon problems. Bulky setup sweepers that Umbreon cannot poison, such as Iron Defense Registeel, and Tera Steel or Tera Poison Calm Mind Cresselia, force Umbreon out or to become setup fodder.

**Chip Damage**: Umbreon is forced to frequently switch in and take powerful attacks from the likes of Chandelure and Meloetta, and other attackers like Munkidori and Inteleon can U-turn as Umbreon switches in, damaging it and switching into a more threatening attacker. Entry hazard chip can further wear it down, particularly if Umbreon is forced to take a Knock Off.

Synchronize lets Umbreon switch into moves like Registeel's Thunder Wave and Quagsire's Toxic and turn them back on their users. you should reword this to something like “thanks to umby’s access to synchronize, toxic users like belli, goodra, and quag struggle to stall it out one-on-one” Wish lets Umbreon can Wish pass and starting off sentences with moves/abilities/items while not wrong, kind of makes the intro feel set comment-like support teammates that lack recovery like Swampert and Bronzong, and it's Protect not only lets it can secure Wish recovery for Umbreon itself or, but it also lets it scout choice-locked opponents like Mienshao, Flygon, and Munkidori. Toxic allows Umbreon to make progress against a wide variety of opponents, and is particularly valuable when Umbreon forces an opposing attacker like Munkidori and Cresselia out. this seems like a lot of text wgen you can simply say “with toxic, umbreon isnt a sitting duck when up against walls like xyz and it helps versus fat set up sweepers like xyz” While Umbreon is a great check to a variety of attackers, it is vulnerable to being worn down over time, as many things it would want to switch in on like Munkidori, Inteleon, and Bombirdier carry U-turn, both taking advantage of it and forcing it to take entry hazards repeatedly. particularly if it is forced to repeatedly switch into U-Turn from opposing attackers or take hazard chip. Attempting to pass Wish to a teammate can be telegraphed as well, so it can sometimes be difficult to switch teammates in safely. Fighting- and Fairy-types like Mienshao Heracross and Sylveon can force Umbreon out, and Poison-types like Alolan Muk and Dragalge can check it as well, as Umbreon can become fairly passive when it cannot spread poison with Toxic.

I don't find this type of wallbreaker to be a good partner because you're just often hard switching them in. Instead, they want pivot support because they're pretty fragile/have poor defensive profiles. (AP) Leftovers can give Umbreon additional healing, especially when combined with Protect for additional turns. Alternatively, Heavy-Duty Boots allows Umbreon to switch in more frequently without concern for entry hazard chip. Tera Poison grants Umbreon a resistance to Fighting-, Fairy-, and Bug-type attacks that would otherwise be super effective against it, improving its matchup against opponents foes like Mienshao and Sylveon, as well as against Pokemon that often use U-turn like Flygon.

Bulky teammates without reliable HP recovery, such as Dragalge, Tentacruel, and Swampert, (AC) also appreciate being passed Wish by Umbreon.

Other Options
====

====

**Fighting-types and Fighting-type Coverage**: Foes like Mienshao, Toxicroak, and Breloom force Umbreon out, and Fighting-type coverage, such as Focus Blast from Munkidori and Body Press from Bronzong, (AC) can also be threatening.

**Fairy-types and Fairy-type Coverage**: Umbreon is weak to opponents Pokemon like Sylveon and Diancie, and even foes it might otherwise check, such as Cresselia, can deal damage with Moonblast, especially if boosted by Tera Fairy.
