Underrated Shows

So, after rewatching my absolute favorite anime there is, I was inspired to make a thread here dedicated to shows (in general, not exclusive to anime) that gives some love to less famous shows that actually deserves it. Thus this thread is dedicated to both discussion and recommendation of those hidden pearls, and I will probably update the OP with a list to these shows as well as the user submitted description of it. In other words, keeping discussion vague is definitely desirable so that newcomers to the shows won't have their experiences broken by potential big spoilers.

I think this type of thread could inspire people in "show droughts", in a lack of a better term, come back to see some great shows.

Obviously, this also means that previous gems that less and less people watch due to age is also encouraged to be posted (shows like the old 60's classic The Samurai and the 80's Legend of the Galatic Heroes should garner some renewed love from the fanbase in general). This way we can together improve our experiences and I for one tend to enjoy shows better knowing that I've helped others to enjoy it as well.

In any case, I will start off by talking about the show which inspired me in the first place, my absolute favorite anime. You can take my "review" as a format for yourself if you don't know how to explain it.

__________

Name of the show: Rainbow Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin
Release year: 2010
Number of episodes: 25
Studio of production: Madhouse
Genre: Seinen/Mature, Drama, Historical
Synopsis: In the aftermath of the second World War, six boys are transferred to a Reform School after committing certain crimes. There they meet another person, Sakuragi Rokurouta, in a world seemingly as dark and brutal as life itself. Together, the boys decide to find a way out of the hell they've been placed in, a task proving hard due to the constant abuse they're being given by their warden.

Why do I love this show? It's quite simple, truth be told. It is what I would consider the literal Bros-before-Hoes show which instead of playing on anime tiddies, they drag you in with a sense of belonging. Comradery at its absolute finest, and more about a show that no matter what, as long as you have friends you'll never be alone. You can clearly feel the struggles they've been through and while the animation is bleak and gives a sense of hopelessness, it is so wonderfully done that at the end you're left with a great feel-good within you. And personally, it helped me realize just how important a great friendship can be. It is an emotional rollercoaster, and upon the many rewatches I've done of it, I can with my hand placed on my heart admit that I cried at every single episode. Both sad and happy tears. And this particular song from one of the character in the show, Joe, is beautiful and just giving off this link brings back some tears in my otherwise pretty hard heart.
