This is my 2nd VGC team, first one being a Mega-Sableye Team. I created this team to be unique and different from the usual pokes. All pokemon in the team are pretty uncommon in VGC except for 2 pokes.
I would greatly appreciate any tips and advice given :)
Whimsicott
Puffed (Whimsicott) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Tailwind
- Charm
- Taunt
- Helping Hand
I know this was supposed to be a unique VGC team, but Whimsicott is so useful in VGC. Anyway, Whimsicott works really well with the other pokes in the team (yay team synergy). Usually, Whimsicott will be my lead, with all support moves, it can easily help the team to set up sweep. Tailwind will boost my pokes to outspeed other pokes. Charm can and will stop physical beasts like Mega-Kanga or boost Malamar's attack to guarantee a kill. Taunt takes care of stallers and other pranksters like Thundurus and Meowstic as Whimsicott outspeeds all. Helping Hand is self-explanatory, it helps the teammate to maximize damage output and sweep the opponent's team.
Ambipom
Slap (Ambipom) @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Technician
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Double Hit
- Quick Guard
- Protect
Ambipom is such a good pokemon when it comes to VGC. Jolly Ambipom has a powerful 183 speed which is faster than most pokemon. Technician is a really good ability on Ambipom as Fake Out becomes 60 base power and Double Hit becomes really destructive. When it comes to facing a Talonflame or pranksters, Quick Guard works best as it can block the priority and make their moves useless. Equipped with Silk Scarf, Ambipom's Fake Out does even more if unresisted. Although being pretty frail, its speed helps it get a double hit off before getting OHKOed. Fake Out being the main use of Ambipom, it can stall threats or guarantee a kill by double focusing a enemy poke. Of course, it has Protect for prediction purposes.
Malamar
Colossal (Malamar) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Contrary
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Psycho Cut
- Protect
Malamar is that guy that when left alone too long, comes back with a gun and shoot everybody. Paired with Whimsicott, it can get a x2 attack boost from Charm and destroy the opponent's face. Only cons are Malamar's awful speed and special defense, though this can be solved by a Tailwind boost. Malamar also gets an attack boost from intimidate users. Superpower is necessary for the attack and defense boost. Knock off can deal a powerful amount of damage after some attack boosts. Psycho Cut is for pokemon like Amoonguss and Venusaur. Protect can be used when Whimsicott is setting up Tailwind to ensure the safety of Malamar. With investments in bulk and attack, it will sweep after a few boosts. Having Lum Berry is important because most players tend to burn or paralyze Malamar.
Heatran
Pompeii (Heatran) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 50
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
- Heat Wave
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Protect
Heatran is the only other pokemon in this team that isn't unique other than Whimsicott. But I needed Heatran to deal with Fairy types like Sylveon and Florges as they wall and destroy my team pretty hard. With the Flash Fire ability, it will make players think twice before using Heat Wave. Having Heat Wave itself, it can deal massive amounts of damage with the Helping Hand boost. Earth Power is for versatility purposes and other Heatrans. Equipping the Air Balloon, Heatran can prevent getting OHKOed by Earthquake from the opponent or teammates. Modest nature will maximize damage on Heatran. Of course, it has Protect for prediction purposes and protection from teammate's attacks.
Rampardos
Penetrator (Rampardos) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force / Mold Breaker
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Fire Punch
The only reason I brought Rampardos is for its monstrous attack STAB Rock Slide. With the Scarf, Rampardos will outspeed and probably decimate the threat. Your opponent will be really shocked as Rampardos outspeeds and slides rocks into his pants. I'm still debating on whether to have Mold Breaker or Sheer Force on it. Sheer Force will make this monster deal even more while Mold Breaker is good to have with the flinch chance still available. The other moves are only needed when worst comes to worst and you're about to lose the match. Earthquake would be great with Mold Breaker, Iron Head for those unpleasant fairies, and Fire Punch for those annoying threats. The nature must be jolly because Rampardos lacks speed and would not outspeed most pokes when Adamant even with scarf.
Ampharos - Mega
G-Shock (Ampharos) @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder
- Dragon Pulse
- Cotton Guard
You may be thinking, Ampharos ain't nothing. Then you're wrong! Ampharos is one of the best pokemon including its Mega IMO. After Mega Evolution, Ampharos gains extra bulk, mass amounts of SpA and the important ability Mold Breaker. With a lot of Lightning Rod users on the field now, Mold Breaker can ignore that ability and hit the target. Mold Breaker also breaks sturdy, OHKOing pokes like Skarmory. If give the chance to setup, Cotton Guard Ampharos will tank an Earthquake like nobody's business. Dragon Pulse also gets STAB after Mega Evolution and can serve as a replacement move for pokemon that is immune or resists Thunderbolt. When facing a rain team, Thunder will gain full accuracy and sweep the opposing team. After a Tailwind boost, it does outspeed some pokemon and sweep the opposing team cleanly and easily.
Thank you if you actually read the whole thing and I would be really happy if you could rate my team. Anyway, thanks in advance if you had rated :)
