UPDATE:My first stall team.

Introduction

Well this is my first attempt to start a stall based team in gen 5. I based my team around some unusual stall based teams I saw online. The team was also based on a entry hazard roar tactic. I know this team needs a ton of work. I really need the help :). I feel as individuals my team is really good but I feel they lack cohesion.

Sigilyph (M) @ Flame Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Psycho Shift
- Stored Power
- Cosmic Power
- Roost

Sigilyph is incredibly powerful after a couple Cosmic Powers

• Flame orb over toxic for walls
• Roost for recovery, stored power as my attack
• Psycho Shift to inflict the burn
• Magic guard is amazing and allows me to switch in and set up with relative ease.

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SDef
Calm Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Pain Split
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes

I run a pretty unusual set on my Forretress.

• I have to have rapid spin for entry hazards
• Toxic spikes, and spikes, for entry hazards
• Pain split as a form of recovery.
• Especially nice with the sturdy ability.

I love Vaporeon. She is such a tank( and pink too :) ).

Ohh and sorry about the images I dont know how to resize them.

The team

Sigilyph @ Flame Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Psycho Shift
- Stored Power
- Cosmic Power
- Roost

Sigilyph is incredibly powerful after a couple Cosmic Powers. I take the flame orb over toxic for walls, roost for recovery, stored power as my attack, and Psycho Shift to inflict the burn. Magic guard is amazing and allows me to switch in and set up with relative ease.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 128 Def / 252 HP / 128 SDef
Calm Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Pain Split
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes

I run a pretty unusual set on my Forretress. I have to have rapid spin for shednija, toxic spikes, and spikes, for entry hazards(I run stealth rock on Empoleon). And… wait for it …. pain split. With the sturdy ability i can bring a physical attacker down to 50% health and bring me back into the game. I have felt Forretress is a bit weak so I like pain split as a form of recovery.

395Empoleon.png

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Roar
- Scald
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Beam

Empoleon is great. Takes his well, roars everyone out and racks up the entry hazard damage. Scald over surf for burn, ice beam for coverage, and like i said earlier Stealth Rock.

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Def
Modest Nature
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Taunt
- Encore

Vaporeon (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 4 SDef / 252 HP / 252 Def
Serious Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Scald

I love Vaporeon. She is such a tank( and pink too :) ). Wish support, reliable switch ins on waters, protect to scout and gain some recovery for herself, scald over surf for burn. Heal bell is awesome it gets rid of all those pesky status conditions that no one likes.

180px-292Shedinja.png

Shedinja @ Focus Sash
Trait: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- X-Scissor

Shedinja is a glass cannon. He(maybe she) can switch in on a good prediction and set up a couple sword dances and then use the attack of my choices, usually Sucker Punch if i think the are going for the attack. Shed is really fragil though and sometimes i can't even use him because of entry hazards, status, weather, ect.

Thanks and bring on the criticism :)

Vaporeon needs Roar. This team can't deal with wall breakers once Whimsicott goes down(and I guess it goes down early if it is your lead) because your phazer doesn't have reliable recovery.

Actually, might I suggest Roar+Sleep Talk+Rest Suicune in place of Vaporeon and Aromatherapy+Stealth Rocks Chansey in place of Empoleon? You get pretty much the same exact things accomplished, but more efficiently.

Hey!

Nice first try at a competitive Pokemon team. However, the team has its fair share of problems. Keep practicing and learn what works!

My biggest piece of advice for you is that your team isn't defensive enough. A stall team needs to be able to set Hazards, keep those hazards, and stop as many offensive Pokemon as possible. I'll focus on Shedinja and Whimsicott to illustrate my overall point.

First, Shedinja can wall opposing Pokemon thanks to Magic Guard, but Sandstorm is so prevalent that it is useless in a lot of battles. Without Rain or Sun support, Shedinja is simply going to die to Sandstorm. The biggest penchant of Stall is consistency, and Shedinja is anything but consistent.

Second, Whimsicott is generally a terrible Pokemon. It has poor defenses, so it can't wall anything. It has very few coverage moves and little ability to attack, so it can't KO anything either. Overall, Whimsicott just doesn't do anything. The best Whimsicott will do is use Leech Seed and be annoying. Disregarding your Special Attack EVs on Whimsicott which has no Special Attack moves, your set can't make any impact on a battle. Any Grass Pokemon can wall it, and the plethora of powerful BW OU threats will KO it with ease.

I can't propose any changes for your team without totally remaking it for you. Instead, I'm going to give you some general Stalling advice and an outline for future team building.

1. First priority is Defenses. Pokemon with High HP, Def, and Sp Def stats are a must on Stall teams. In addition, keep in mind your Type resistances. You don't want too many defensive Pokemon that are weak to a common Attack type like Water. Further, you'll want to take into account Recovery moves. Blissey would not be a good Special Wall unless it had access to Softboiled. If you want to stall, you'll need longevity.

2. Second priority is Hazards. A Stall team relies on passive damage, not direct damage. You should do very little attacking, only resorting to an attack to stop dangerous sweepers. Your Forretress is a good example of a Hazard user on Stall teams. In the same vein as Hazards, you'll also want to give some thought to a Spin Blocker. Ghost types block Rapid Spin which is the most common way opposing teams try to remove your entry hazards.

Those are my big tips for you. Check out the on-site stall guide found here if you want more information. Keep working hard and you'll get better every day!

Good luck!

I had a large post and my computer's internet ate it. So i'll make this quick.

You're running forretress without any attacks and shedinja. Forretress sans attacks is massive setup bait, even with pain split, since your only way to damage a sweeper once he's set up is leech seed, which only works if he can't OHKO everything on your team. (And i'll bet he can.) Whimsicott can encore them, but they can just keep coming in, and once they nail whimsicott it's GG. Meanwhile forry can't spin which means GG shedinja!

Your two main special walls are the same type. Not a great plan.

So many things just... wreck you. The main problem is that you've basically got a bunch of utility pokemon that are only useful in specific roles, but you're not using them intelligently, while knowing exactly what you want, you're just throwing them on. So... they're going to perform badly. Whimsicott, for example, isn't terrible so much as very situational-its use lies in being able to subseed while checking setup sweepers and stallbreaking, which no other pokemon can do. If you decide your team needs that, fine, but it seems like you just decided to use it. It is actually great for your team, in that it can make the attempt to cover up all the gaping holes in it. But your team has too many gaping holes, and too many pokemon that should be used sparingly in specific roles.

Thanks tehy and undisputed. I am really glad you guys told me strait. I am really interested in competitive battling but I prefer tactic over brute force. I really wanted my first team to be a stall team because I like that style of play. If I scrap this team or basically "totally remake" it like undisputed said where should I start?

For one thing, use Ditto. Ditto is amazing for full-blown stall because it is the ultimate safety net. They could get to +6 on you and Ditto just comes in and saves the day.

Yes, I agree with youngjake93. Ditto would really help you out with threats like Haxorus and whatnot that are a pain to stall teams.

I totally Updated the team :)

Thanks everyone. I updated the team with some of the original advice and came up with some stuff of my own. A dude and youngjake93 I am looking into ditto thanks for the suggestion.
