CLAMPERL TRICK ROOM

Hello all! While I’m mostly known for playing GSC, time I am sharing a team for DPP UU that I have spammed and actually had decent success with. This team aims to support the incredibly powerful but slow and frail Clamperl with Trick Room, while supporting other heavy hitters such as Rhyperior and Exeggutor. This team isn’t the most consistent thing around, but it can work.
Let’s get into the team building process!
When looking for a bulky Pokemon that can setup both Trick Room and Stealth Rock, you’d be hard pressed to find a better option then Uxie. I chose it as the lead of the team in order to setup both TR+SR, then U-Turn out.
I wanted another bulky Pokemon able to setup Trick Room while also being an offensive threat, and Slowking caught my eye. Its Life Orb boosted Surfs and Psychics are surprisingly powerful.
Add another bulky mon able to setup Trick Room while being good offensively onto the list. Porygon-2 is my best option for dealing with Pokemon such as Mismagius, Drapion, and likes that most other team members resist Fighting.
Rhyperior with Life Orb hits incredibly hard and has EdqeQuake, so its an excellent candidate for a Trick Room team. It also provides useful defensive utility due to its good physical bulk.
Good old Exeggutor is another powerful mon under Trick Room and the last of the setters. With Explosion, it can also be key for taking out a problematic Pokemon, such as a random SubCM Uxie.
For the last member, I wasn’t sure what to pick. I was originally gonna go with Marowak or something but soon discovered Clamperl, and the rest is history.
THE TEAM.

Uxie @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Psychic
Uxie is my lead, and gets up early game Stealth Rock and sets up Trick Room. U-Turn is another useful move, and can get in a team member for free if against a slower Pokemon. I did use to have a Mesprit here actually, but changed it to Uxie due to its better bulk letting it setup TR/Rocks more reliable. Lum Berry is the chosen item, letting it not fear stuff like Scarf Venusaur with Sleep Powder. Lastly, I have Psychic to not be complete setup fodder for foes such as Venusaur and Toxicroak.

Slowking @ Life Orb
Ability: Own Tempo
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Nasty Plot
- Psychic
- Surf
Slowking is one of the stars of this team, Slowking is the first of the offensive Trick Room setters. Its fairly reliable at getting Trick Room up against most things due to its solid bulk, even when not fully invested in. And under Trick Room, its Life Orb boosted Surfs and Psychics are good for foes such as Moltres, Venusaur, and Arcanine. It also has Nasty Plot, and becomes incredibly deadly when it gets a chance to set it up against something more passive such as Registeel or Milotic.

Porygon2 @ Life Orb
Ability: Download
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Tri Attack
Porgyon-2 is another pretty bulky Trick Room setter. With excellent coverage, it threatens a huge amount of mons right off the bat. While it is walled by Registeel, that’s why I paired it with both Rhyperior and Slowking. BoltBeam is incredible coverage as always and threatens a huge amount of common Pokemon, while Tri Attack is useful for hitting everything else. I decided to use Download over Trace on Porygon-2, because when it gets the Special Attack boost, it moves hit incredibly strong.

Rhyperior @ Life Orb
Ability: Solid Rock
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Megahorn
- Substitute
Rhyperior is next in line, having STAB EdqeQuake coming off 140 and Life Orb is no joke. Its so powerful I’ve seen it just flat out drop mons like Venusaur with Stone Edge lol. Megahorn is the third move, useful for hitting Grasses such as Leafeon and Exeggutor. As for the last move, I originally had Swords Dance but I legit don’t think I ever clicked it in my many games using this team, so I replaced it with Substitute, which can be hugely useful for easing predictions when using Earthquake and Stone Edge. Rhyperior is also really bulky physically with just max HP, so it can take a hit in a pinch.

Exeggutor @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Leaf Storm
- Explosion
Exeggutor is the last of the Trick Room setters, and is once again a powerful foe under Trick Room. Leaf Storm and Psychic hit incredibly hard(Leaf Storm trucks most resits lol), but what sets Exeggutor apart is Explosion, which can be a huge game changer, especially when considering most Normal-resists are hurt badly by Leaf Storm. Its also useful for getting a team member in safely. It is walled by Registeel, though, which can be a huge pain in some games.

king (Clamperl) @ Deep Sea Tooth
Ability: Shell Armor
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SpA
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Brine
Last up, the legend itself is here. With Deep Sea Tooth, Clamperl is an OHKO machine vs most of the common Pokemon in the tier. It is frail and needs Trick Room up to be off any use, but when it gets in safely its a monster. Ice Beam is useful for hitting Grasses really hard(OHKOs most of them lol), while Hidden Power Grass is good for hitting opposing Waters. I have Brine last because there is legit no better option(Clamperl’s movepool is extremely bad), but it can come in useful some games.
