Currently I’m peaking around 1100 and that can be better but I suck at playing, and I have always Lady Luck against me. (one time the first 5 turns of my scarfed Roserade missed with Sleep Powder, lol)
Team building
The team began when I was looking in the UU thread. I saw this thread : http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3449399. After I read a little bit, I saw this offensive combo Sigilyph and Snorlax. Snorlax is one of my favourite pokemons. Both are slow and need the time to set up, so Toxic Spikes would be great.
Nidoking was added because he attracts Chansey but this set likes Chansey to set up Toxic Spikes. I saw a glaring weakness to Taunt-WoW sets like Mismagius and Mew, so I added a scarfed Heracross. Heracross doesn't mind being burned and traps Mismagius and Mew with Pursuits.
Ok, now I have 4 Pokemon and I need something that sets up stealth rock and a (P)hazer. I need also a check or counter to Staraptor, the most broken thing of UU (Wobbtrio is more broken, but that's so cheap). I looked another time and I saw the defensive core called Zapdos and Empoleon. Empoleon is a great check against those baton pass teams (Also cheap) and he sets up Stealth Rock. And Zapdos is also one of my favourite pokemon.
The team
Nidoking (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
Nidoking, cool pokemon, enough said. I just went with an plain simple EV-spread, don't know if there is a better set that has the speed to break defensive cores with his great coverage. Ice-Ground is good, hitting all pokemon in UU bar some Rotom-A. Flamethrower is for things I don't know so feel free to say something about the move. I don't like to have no bulk at all. But it's better to have Nidoking over Nidoqueen because she doesn't have the sheer power what Nidoking has.
Core 1.
This core checks Staraptor, sets up stealth rock, checks baton pass teams, checks the Bugs and stalls with Sub-Roost.
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 196 HP / 60 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Roost
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave / HP Ice
Sub-Roost Zapdos is awesome. It sets up on choiced pokemon like Heracross, Escavalier, Dugtrio and such things. I went with max speed to set up a substitute in everyone’s face. From there it’s a cycle of sub, roost, sub, roost etc. with toxic wearing the pokemon down. Thunderbolt is for STAB and Heat Wave for the steels or Hidden Power Ice is for the almost perfect coverage. The EV-spread is from somewhere copied. I like the spread but it’s not defensive enough. It can’t counter Staraptor (Raptor sounds cooler) good enough.
Empoleon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Scald
- Ice Beam
Empoleon is a boss. He checks so many things. He checks Hail, Baton Pass and more. I went with Max Def, max HP because I want him to counter Staraptor better. The reason behind it is I need to checks against that thing because that thing is a beast. Stealth Rock is against U-turn teams, Roar to check Baton Pass apart chains with Espeon. (annoying thing, but I can play around it) Scald is for the STAB and it burns sometimes. And Ice Beam is for Grass.
Core 2.
This core is the offensive one.
Sigilyph (F) @ Levtovers / Burn Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Cosmic Power / Calm Mind
- Hidden Power Fighting / Psycho Shift
- Roost
- Stored Power
Sigilyph is the main answer to stall. Stall pokemon needs to attack because it’s otherwise gg. Cosmic Power is here to boost her Defense and Special Defense. Roost is for recovery and Stored Power is to lease a powerfull attack after a couple of boosts. HP Fighting is for the dark pokemon. This set is walled by dark pokemon but I don’t mind because I don’t have an idea which move I need to change it for a coverage attack. The spread is max Hp and almost max Def to tank physical hits and the rest in speed to outspeed something I don’t know. It hits 267 Speed. Any changes in this pokemon is appreciated
Snorlax (M) @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 128 HP / 128 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Curse
- Return
- Earthquake
- Rest
Curselax, Proslax, Snorlax. Max SDef to take special hits and the rest splitted in HP and Def. Curse for obvious reasons ofcourse. Return and Earthquake for almost good coverage. Everything besides Levitating ghosts. Rest with Chesto Berry to take my health back when he is cursing. He cannot be statussed. Snorlax doesn't like Leech Seed and such things what Sigilyph likes because that doesn't direct hits Sigilyph. Where Snorlax is better against offensive teams is Sigilyph better against stall teams.
The glue
Heracross (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Guts
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Megahorn
- Close Combat
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
Scarfed Heracross is a good revenge killer. He checks most taunt WoW pokemon and KO’s them with Megahorn or Pursuit. Mismagius is a bitch for Snorlax and Heracross checks that thing. Heracross can’t come in Mew but he revenge kills Mew with Megahorn. The problem is that Heracross can’t come in very often because his lack of bulk but I can play around it.
Threats
Ice Weak
The pokemon listed under this are the most common pokemon in uu.
I will add later a full treatlist. Maybe.
Wobbufet - Can't do much, besides trapping. Snorlax and Sigilyph can't be tickled because they boost in defense. Empoleon roars him away. Nidoking sets his Toxic Spikes. Zapdos and Heracross being trapped is not fine but I can live with that. Wobbufett doesn't like Toxic Spikes.
Staraptor – It’s a checked by Empoleon and Zapdos. It’s a bit switching but I can play around it. The Sub-Roost set is the best but not against my team because Zapdos or Empoleon walls it.
Chansey – Set-up mon for Snorlax and Sigilyph if it lacks Thunder-Wave.
