UU Offense (First Team Post Ever)

Hello all,

I'm relatively new to 5th gen Pokemon, and I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for my UU Offensive team. I built this team from scratch and have thus far had pretty nice results. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks!

Uxie @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Reflect
- U-turn
- Light Screen
- Stealth Rock

Uxie is almost always my lead, setting up both screens and Stealth Rock. I then U-turn into another member of my team. Both scenarios require prediction on my part and depend largely on my opponent's team. Uxie can take hits pretty well due to its natural bulk and especially after screen support. Late game, it serves as death fodder or a harasser with U-turns.

Rhyperior @ Life Orb
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Rock Polish
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Megahorn

Rhyhorn is the first of my three setup sweepers (the other two being Cobalion and Kingdra). The plan is simple - Rock Polish, survive the hit due to his defenses, and wreck shop with his massive Attack stat and coverage moves. The hardest part is the initial setup, as Rhyperior suffers greatly from low Speed. Once he gets going though, he's terrifying.

Kingdra @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 4 SpD / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
- Waterfall
- Outrage

Kingdra can either go for the standard Sub-Dragon Dance opening, or surprise my opponent and attack right away with Outrage. The Lum Berry is nice support as it automatically heals the confusion when Outrage is done.

Honchkrow @ Life Orb
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 4 SpD / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Sucker Punch
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- Roost

Honchkrow is a hand grenade - hitting hard and fast with little regard for his own life. I've got Sucker Punch for priority beatings, Brave Bird for the massive STAB attack, Superpower for coverage, and Roost to use freely upon a switch-out. He usually dies, but not before taking at least one Pokemon with him.

Raikou @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Extrasensory
- Hidden Power Ice

Raikou fulfills two roles - an all-out attacker with Thunderbolt, naturally abusing his massive Special Attack, or harassment with Volt Switch. Extrasensory and Hidden Power Ice are both included for coverage, especially the latter. Surprising a Claydol, Rhyperior, or Flygon with a Specs-boosted HP Ice is always nice.

Cobalion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor

Cobalion has proven to be the MVP of my team, owing to coverage moves and an enormous Attack stat, especially after Swords Dance. The Lum Berry is mainly for healing after a Will-O-Wisp, because I've found that Cobalion's sweeping abilities are severely hindered once his Attack stat gets cut in half. I chose him over Mienshao due to his typing, and X-Scissor has shown to cut through pesky Grass and Psychic types like Shaymin and Slowbro.

Overall, these Pokemon all have fairly standard EV's, movesets, and natures, and I both love and hate that. Does anyone have any suggestions to make them better and/or more creative? Does anyone see any glaring weaknesses, or think that a Pokemon should be switched out for something else? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks guys!

Your team is really, really solid, the only thing I'd worry about is team synergy. This means how well your teammates cover each others weaknesses. Your team is really weak to Ground and although you have two physical tanks in Rhyperior and Cobalion, you have no pivot for taking special attacks or any true walls besides Uxie. You also don't have a spinblocker, a spinner, a wish-passer, a cleric, a pokemon with taunt, or a pokemon with spikes/toxic spikes. Still, your team somewhat makes up for this with the fact that 5 of your pokemon are constantly a threat offensively, and the fact that you have Dual Screens.
Overall, it might need some changes, but it's still a very solid team, and I wouldn't want to have to face someone who is using it.

Thank you for the compliments and help! I'm definitely starting to realize the weakness to Ground. I'm wondering if, in keeping with the theme of hyper-offense, Uxie should be switched out for Shaymin or Froslass. Both would cover the Ground weakness better, and the latter would also serve as a spinblocker, correct? If I did make that change, I'm thinking Rhyperior should take up the role of setting up Stealth Rock and being a true tank. Let me know if you think.

I'd say keep Uxie, it helps mitigate your Ground weakness and can very reliably set up screens and Stealth Rocks. I would also replace Sniper on your Kingdra to Swift Swim. A Rain team absolutely tears through your team (which is the case with most Hyper Offense teams) and Kingdra being able to combat other Swift Swimmers would be a good idea.

Heyy good team! Perhaps you could try xatu > uxie as a dual screener? Xatu isn't taunt bait like uxie, which will have trouble against sableye thanks to magic bounce? Perhaps you could try eviloite gligar over rhyperior due to your having kingdra and cobalion as physical sweeprs. Perhaps a sub/cm set on raikou?

Overall, I see scarf heracross as an issue as it can ko uxie with megahorn, ko cobalion and honchkrow with close combat, and I believe is faster than rock polish rhyperior if im wont. But still thanks to its great bulk and resists, it can do some serious damage before going down.

Other than those changes, your team looks good!

I definitely agree with Xatu > uxie. Not only does it retain your ground type immunity, it also gives you a very useful counter against hazards and statuses. Moreover, Xatu can essentially give you hazards yourself if you play your cards right, and your team could do with a lot of hazard support. As I'm sure you know yourself, there are a lot of things that could be a OHKO with hazards that currently don't OHKO, leaving you one member short when, say, you Megahorn a slowbro at 70% and it survives with a couple HP and kills off your Rhyperior with a scald.
You may find that running Xatu frees up your item slot on Cobalion, and allows you to run something belt or Life Orb to increase his damage as well. Just a thought.

(Great team overall though ^^)

I think you should change Rhyperior to a Max HP MaxDef Impish set with Stealth Rock, Roar, EQ and Stone Edge. This will open up a team slot, because then you probably won't need Uxie that much on this team because Rhyperior has Stealth Rock. Plus, Rhyperior will act as a shuffler and a defensive pivot, as well as providing offensive presence despite being uninvested. If you decide to change the Rhyperior set, there are a number of options you could replace Uxie with. You could use Shaymin for more offensive presence, like you said. Also, Shaymin helps keep hazards on your opponent's side of the field by being able to 2HKO one of UU's most common spinners in Blastoise. For an actual spinblocker, you could use Chandelure, as it can hit very hard with its STAB moves and just really hard in general. If you want a hit-and-run Pokémon that can repeated come in on opponents and do tons of damage, try out Mienshao or Ambipom, as they both have access to Fake Out +U-Turn, along with good coverage moves (Mienshao has Hi Jump Kick, among other options)(Ambipom has access to Technician as an ability along with Double Hit, LowKick, and the previously mentioned Fake Out to take advantage of its ability). And last but not least, if you really miss the dual screens, try out Xatu, as it has an amazing ability in Magic Bounce, which reflects back almost any non-attacking move back at the opponent, including but not limited to entry hazards, status, and Taunt. It also has a nifty 4x resistance to Fighting, which proves to be useful in a tier filled with Fighting types.

Also, isn't it rather counter-productive that you have three physical setup sweepers, along with a physical revenge killer? Try replacing one of your physical sweepers with a wall or a special attacker

The point of the team is to use set up sweepers. Specially defensive Rhyperior or any wall for that matter defeats the purpose.

Although it probably hurts to see them go, try replacing Kingdra or Cobalion with an Agility sweeping Porygon-Z or a Snorlax, which can wall special hits for days as well as dish out good damage with Body Slam.

PTJon7, what I'm trying to say, is, he should have a pivot for taking physical and special hits, they can still be walls and have offensive presence (ie; Snorlax, Porygon2, Rhyperior, Roserade, Donphan, etc.). Also, he should have a good mix of special and physical attackers, instead of one special attacker in Raikou vs four physical attackers.
