Persian's blistering fast Speed, powerful Slash, and decent coverage make it a potent revenge killer and cleaner. Persian is the fourth fastest Pokemon in UU, critically outspeeding metagame staples such as Tentacruel, Dodrio, and Kadabra. This Speed pairs nicely with Slash consistently 3HKOing foes such as Tentacruel and Articuno, and being capable of 2HKOing frailer ones like Dugtrio and Kadabra. Persian also has workable coverage in Bubble Beam and Thunderbolt to target foes in Golem and certain Water- and Flying-types, respectively.
However, Persian suffers from an extremely bad matchup against Haunter, only being able to 6HKO it with Thunderbolt while it can freely switch into Slash thanks to its Normal immunity. While Haunter is slower and can only 4HKO Persian with Psychic, it threatens sleep and can still easily beat Persian one-on-one, turning it into a liability for its team. Persian is also quite frail, being 2HKOed or 3HKOed by most decently strong STAB moves in the tier, which leave it outdamaged by common foes such as Articuno and Kangaskhan. This often makes Persian very reliant on its teammates significantly weakening the opposing team for it to do much of anything. Persian is also completely ruined by paralysis, making it struggle against foes that it could otherwise easily beat such as Clefable and Electabuzz.

Body Slam lets Persian fish for paralysis o. Additionally, Persian should generally use Body Slam against Dugtrio if it's out of Slash's KO range, because it always puts Dugtrio into KO range while potentially letting Persian avoid taking another Earthquake.

However, Haunter must often put Persian to sleep with Hypnosis, because it is outsped and can only 4HKO Persian with Psychic, making Persian often able to deal decent damage before going down.
**Paralysis**: Due to its poor bulk, Persian is very reliant on its Speed to revenge kill or outdamage its foes. Thus, once paralyzed Persian is unable to fulfill any of its roles and is easily taken out by most foes. While Persian's Normal typing leaves it immune to paralysis from Body Slam, foes such as Clefable and Tangela can easily paralyze Persian with moves like Thunder Wave and Stun Spore.
**Articuno**: Articuno 2HKOes Persian with Blizzard while its immense bulk leaves it only being 3HKOed by Slash and 4HKOed by Thunderbolt. Persian's best option against Articuno is Body Slam, which can buy Persian and its team free turns and reduce the Speed of a boosted Articuno using paralysis. Persian can also use Hyper Beam to aim for a critical hit, which does over 65%.
**Kangaskhan**: Persian can only 3HKO Kangaskhan with Slash while its KOed by the combination of Body Slam into Hyper Beam. With Kangaskhan also immune to Body Slam paralysis, Persian's best option is a critical hit Hyper Beam, which does over 70%, KOing Kangaskhan after a single Slash.
