Hey guys, I'll keep this short and sweet. I took a 2 year hiatus from Pokemon but decided to play again. I made this team 2 days ago and I've managed to do quite well with it in the UU Suspect Test Ladder.
I always take a very formulaic approach when it comes to team-building (whether it is for OU, UU, NU etc). Each Pokemon is chosen to fulfill a specific role(s) and when combined together they make a strong synergistic team.
I have made a lot of adjustments to the build and each time I feel I reach a plateau in my rank, I bring the build back to the drawing board and swap out Pokemon / Moves that I feel aren't carrying their weight. This process has allowed me to climb the ladder quite steadily in a very short period of time.
Team at a Glance
Lead
Aggron-Mega @ Aggronite
Ability: Filter
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Counter
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
This is my lead, I'm not a big fan of suicidal leads and tend to prefer tanky ones. Aggron has great defenses, especially with its Filter ability. It also hits extremely hard with Heavy Slam and EQ. It also acts as a great check against threats that may trouble my Jellicent (such as Absol-Mega).
Special Defense
Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Recover
This is my special defense wall. I tried Blissey for a while, but I felt that she was just set-up fodder for many Sweepers, and is easily countered by Wall-Breakers . As a result I decided to opt for Milotic.
Physical Defense / Stallbreaker
Jellicent @ Leftovers / Colbur Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Taunt
Jellicent acts as my Spin-Blocker and Physical Wall. This Pokemon is extremely powerful, due to its bulk and access to powerful moves such as Taunt, Will-O-Wisp and Recover.
It acts as a stall breaker and cripples all physical attackers as well. Great against Salamence, Gyarados, Infernape, Swampert etc. I have 44 Speed, so that it can outrun all Pokemon with base 65 MS for taunting. I am considering using a Colbur Berry instead of leftovers, as this will allow it to surprise and counter enemies such as Crawdaunt.
Wall-Breaker
Hydreigon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Superpower
- Fire Blast
This is my Wallbreaker and it hits extremely hard. It has many opportunities to switch-in based off its great typing as well as Levitate. A Specs Draco Meteor will deal a massive amount of damage to any Pokemon that is not Blissey or Fairy/Steel Type. Lategame it can also transition to a Sweeper once all the faster Pokemon are out of the picture.
Pivot / Glue
Metagross @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Meteor Mash
This is my Glue and it is a great offensive presence that can easily find switch-ins and fire off banded Meteor-Mashes. It is great for trapping enemies as well with Pursuit. STAB + Banded Bullet Punch allows me to clean up fast Sweepers that get out of Control.
Sweeper
Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
So this is my Sweeper. I am not a fan of set-up sweepers because they are too slow. I instead rely on Moxie for my damage boost. Generally a +1 Close Combat can pretty much sweep an entire team if un-resisted.
