Hello, I'm uragg and this is my UU Rain Dance team. This is my first RMT and my first post here, so it would help if you could bear with me a bit.
I went for an all-out offensive rain team, and it has worked pretty well for me, getting me a decent(?) rating in UU of around 1400. Without further ado, here is my team:
Edit: changes in bold
Sceptile @ Focus Sash
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Attack, 216 Speed, 40 SpA
Nature: Naive
- Leaf Strom
- Earthquake
- Leaf Blade
- Rock Slide
I decided to go with an anti-lead pokemon instead of a predictable rain dance lead, and this has worked out pretty well or me. Sceptile is capable of taking out many lead pokemon, fearing only Ambipom and Fake Out. This draws Venusaurs like flies, which is actually helpful for my team. It reveals their Venu, which will typically take at least 30% from an EQ, and I can get 2 hits in if my sash hasn't been broken. This is pretty much a suicide lead, so I go for enough speed to beat base 115s and the Naive nature because I have the sash and my defenses don't matter that much.
Qwilfish @ Focus Sash
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
-Waterfall
-Poison Jab
-Explosion
-Rain Dance
Qwilfish is my secondary rain set-up, after Uxie. It has guarenteed rain if entry hazards aren't up, and can also serve as a sweeper in a pinch. Maxed out attack allows it to dish out some serious damage with its two STAB attacks, and most importantly, kill many would-be walls such as Milotic, Blastoise, and Venusaur with Explosion. It also counters Technitop well, taking Bullet Punches and Mach Punches with ease and hitting back with Waterfall for the KO. Finally, its speed counters opposing rain teams and kill Kabutops, which was a problem.
Omastar @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Nature: Modest
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-HP Grass
-Toxic Spikes
Omastar is my new special sweeper, replacing Gorebyss. It has higher stats across the board, and I'm not sure why I wasn't using it before. The only downside to Omastar is its weakness to Fighting, which the addition of Qwilfish covers. Omastar offers tremendous coverage and power, and STAB Surf under rain kills practically anything that doesn't resist it. In the last moveslot, I figured that I would just put a support move that might help, because other moves wouldn't really help my team that much.
Kabutops @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
This thing is incredibly powerful, running off base 115 attack with 3 STAB moves. Waterfall can OHKO many things that don't resist it, even more if I got rocks up with Uxie. Aqua Jet is used for priority and taking down Technitop if I got an SD in, and Stone Edge offers good coverage and a powerful option that can KO Venusaur/Blastoise/Milotic if I got a SD boost.
Raikou @ Damp Rock
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 SpA, 4 HP
Nature: Timid
- Rain Dance
- Thunder
- Shadow Ball
- HP Ground
Raikou was the only pokemon that I felt really filled the hyper-offense theme that my team abuses. Max-speed allows it to set up rain quickly and without fear of taunt and also to pick off other Raikou as a revenge kill. Thunder is incredibly powerful and fully accurate under rain, and can serve as a late game sweep if needed. Shadow Ball and HP Ground for coverage, but Thunder hit harder neutrally than either of them super effectively.
Uxie @ Damp Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP, 216 Def, 40 SpD
Nature: Impish
- Rain Dance
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock
- Yawn
Uxie is my primary rain set-up and is very reliable. It typically comes in after Sceptile has died or is made useless by status. Yawn gets me a free turn to set up SR and/or rain, if I have time for both. It's also bulky enough so that it can come in again and repeat the Yawn/Rain Dance cycle to rack up some minimal SR damage and get the rain going again.
Old Team Memebers:
Was my favorite on this team, but absolutely needed the set-up to be effective, and often couldn't get it done.
Ludicolo @ Lum Berry
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 144 HP, 252 Attack, 112 Speed
Nature: Adamant
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Seed Bomb
- Swords Dance
Raikou fits this team better and is way, way faster.
Ampharos @ Damp Rock
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP, 76 SpA, 180 SpD
Nature: Modest
- Thunder
- HP Water
- Reflect
- Rain Dance
This thing just isn't as good as Omastar.
Gorebyss @ Expert Belt
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Nature: Modest
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- HP Grass
- Psychic
Too predictable as a lead, which puts me at a disadvantage in the beginning, which this team really can't afford.
Ambipom @ Damp Rock
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Sped, 4 HP
Nature: Jolly
-Fake Out
-Taunt
-U-turn
-Rain Dance
