ORAS UU UU Rate My Team (Mega Glalie Feature)

As this is like, my first post on the RMT threads (and smogon in general) please be gentle.

Team-building Process

I started with Mega Glalie. Contrary, it is actually a competitively viable pokemon because most people don't exactly prepare for the winter, although it is mainly outclassed by the great and powerful Mamoswine.

To cope with the steel/fire weakness, I instantly selected Empoleon, as it worked as a rock setter

Seeing the massive weaknesses to fighting and no checks to Machamp, I brought in Celebi, due to its massive movepool and overall viability and versatility. Please don't ban it with Salamence.

Next, I brought in Crobat. Crobat works well as a bulky defogger and simultaneously took care of Celebi's bug type issue.

My next pick was Vaporeon. There was actually no reason besides Roar and Toxic that made me select Vaporeon, besides my general hatred of Suicune.

I decided to input Florges, as it worked well as a wish passer and cleric.

Finally, Gligar. Gligar just fit well, in my mind.

THE TEAM
Glalie-Mega @ Glalitite
Ability: Refrigerate
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Sp. Atk / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Frustration/Double-Edge
- Freeze-Dry
- Explosion
- Ice Shard

The Star of the Show. Pretty standard stuff, Frustration for overall power (although running Double Edge is better), Freeze-Dry to deal with pesky water types, Explosion for wall breaking/if you want to end the show with a bang. Ice Shard for Priority. I believe Explosion has a base power of 250 with the refrigerate boost, so this just adds to what it can do.

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Ice Beam

Standard Empoleon spread + set. Flash Cannon for Fairy Coverage, Scald in case something needs to be burnt, Ice Beam for more coverage. Dual STAB with Flash Cannon and Scald is always nice. Rocks are there because it was the only rock setter that came to mind.

Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Wish
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind

Another quite standard set. Florges is a sp. def wall, plain and simple. It lives almost everything on the side of special hits, and it has a pretty solid movepool, what with wish to heal other pokemon and aromatherapy to deal with those pesky burns, poisons, and crippling paralysis.

Crobat @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 168 HP / 88 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Defog
- U-turn

Another really really standard set. Crobat is pretty okay, it has nice offensive and defensive presences, and it's the fourth fastest pokemon in the tier, just barely behind the three mega pokemon, Beedrill, Sceptile and Aerodactyl. With Defog, it gets rid of all the hazards! With no Salamence, Crobat makes for a good fast/bulky defogger. Brave Bird and U-Turn are there just because, and Roost is there for recovery.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Ice Beam
- Roar
- Scald
- Toxic

420 Vapes. Roar and Toxic are a deadly combo if it can live hits. Scald is there in case there's something that needs to be burned (ex. AV/No Guard Machamp) Toxic is there to widdle down basically anything else that can take a burn.

Gligar @ Eviolite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Taunt

Gligar. Mainly just a taunter, plus, it was hard to build around Glalie so I just threw a personal favorite of mine onto the team. I would much rather have Gliscor due to poison heal, but Gliscor isn't in UU, unfortunately.

To conclude, there are some flaws to point out. For one, the glaring ice weakness kind of hinders the team, especially what with Abomasnow running rampant in low ladder and mid ladder. Gligar, especially, what with its lack of bulky and less-than stellar special defense/bulk. If there happens to be a freeze-dry user on the opponents team, you're basically gonna have a bad time. Vaporeon isn't that great at tanking special hits and Florges definitely can't take a life orb/choice banded bullet punch. Losing one means losing the other. Some of the spreads are somewhat questionable, for example, Empoleon doesn't really need the bulk if its faster due to it being, overall, a pretty bulky pokemon, however, it's basically a glass canon at that point, as it dies to everything that hits it supereffectively, however, can live it if it has a good amount of bulk. There's also a lack of special attackers, what with the Vaporeon and Florges fully invested in bulky and various defensive stats. Also, the greatest move in the game, protect (not really) is missing from the team and means wish passing/wishing is a lot harder. Every type of status takes massive shits on the team regardless of whether or not Florges is alive, as it cripples the team significantly.

However, the team is relatively solid, being able to completely destroy teams, what with Glalie being a complete fucking badass and being able to destroy things with Frustration and Explosion. Although its quite hard to build around an ice type, mega Glalie is an exception because of how great it is.

I was going to say throw a Jolly Reckless Staraptor in place of Crobat, but the ice weakness. Staraptor is still a fairly viable option.

May I suggest replacing Florges or Crobat with a Cobalion? Along with added ice resistance, the steel/fighting typing will counter ice types as well. A good setup would be:

Cobalion @ Leftovers
252 Attack, 252 Defense, 4 HP/Speed
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Justified
-Iron Head
-Sacred Sword
-Iron Defense/Bulk Up
-One other move of your choice

Hope I could be helpful!
