Team Building Process

When I started building this team, I wanted a grass-fire-water core because I never had one before. But before I made one, I had to decide if I want it to be a defensive one or an offensive one. I chose defensive and built a defensive core of Arcanine, Slowbro, and Shaymin.

After looking at Smogon sets, it seemed Shaymin was more offensive-ish. So, I quickly replaced it with Roserade.

I threw on some attackers and someone with rocks. I'm pretty sure you can guess who is for which role.

After trying a few times, I noticed Empoleon hardly got rocks up. So I replaced it with a more bulky pokemon, Swampert.

Everything was fine until I couldn't stand not bringing in Zoroark without loosing Illusion. So, I replaced it without an different pokemon who I thought could do Zoroark's job even better. Crew, meet Victini.

Waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy to many fire times. I replaced Darmanitan because I still wanted the fire-grass-water core and Victini was doing great. Hitmontop because I wanted a offensive spinner.

I was probably not using a good Hitmontop set so I replaced it completely.I seemed right to get another regenerator so Meinshao works well.

I still wanted a spinner and Roserade wasn't that good of a special wall(probably because the lack of EV's but I used the Smogon set) so, I got rid of Swampert because too many physical walls(kept Slowbro because of the regenerator) and got me the only UU pokemon that can set up rocks and spin. Claydol

The Team

407f.gif

Roserade@ Black Sludge
Natural Cure
EV's: 252 HP/ 240 SpDef/16 Spd
Nature: Calm(+SpDef,-Att)
-Spikes
-Giga Drain
-Sludge Bomb
-Rest

Standard Spikes set from Smogon. Spikes for hazards, giga drain for damage and a little bit of healing. Sludge Bomb for coverage damage. Rest for the when you are down in red and you can rest and then switch out to easily heal up all the damage you took and still be awake or as Smogon says, "Rest is a last-ditch attempt to patch up Roserade's HP if Giga Drain and Black Sludge aren't getting the job done. Natural Cure also allows Roserade to heal itself of sleep upon switching out, and keeps it healthy."

080.gif

Slowbro@ Leftovers
Regenerator
EV's: 248 HP/248 Def/12 SpA
Nature: Bold(+Def,-Att)
-Scald
-Psyshock
-Slack Off
-Thunder Wave

Swampert probably hates Slowbro right now because I chose Slowbro over him. Anyway, another standard Smogon set. Scald to fish for burn for the physical attacks to do even less, Psyshock to deal some fair(or alot) damage to special walls. Slack Off for if you just need some HP but don't need/want to switch. Thunder Wave to slow down the opponent. Great to take down pokemon with low amount of HP just because he can take a hit a usually take out the other pokemon.

059.gif

Arcanine@ Leftovers
Intimidate
EV's: 252 HP/252 Att/4 Def
Nature: Impish(+Def,-SpA)
-Flare Blitz
-Extreme Speed
-Morning Sun
-Will-O-Wisp

Kind of a weird EV spread and maybe set. I always wanted to try an defensive Arcanine and when I looked at Smogon, I tweeked the set a bit. I used the moves, Flare Blitz for STAB, Extreme Speed for revenge killing. Will-O-Wisp to cripple the opponent so Arcanine can take the hits better and Morning Sun for recovery. 252 HP because Arcanine is supposed to be a I guess a bulky attacker. 2525 Att so I don't wast that base 110 attack and 4 Def and Impish because I need more defense so yeah...

344.gif

Claydol@Leftovers
Levitate
EV's 252 HP/252 SpDef/4 Def
Nature: Careful(+SpDef,-SpA)
-Stealth Rock
-Rapid Spin
-Earthquake
-Toxic

Another standard Smogon set. Stealth Rock for rocks, Rapid Spin to spin, Earthquake for an attacking move and Toxic for those pesky walls and maybe sweepers.252 HP and 252 SpDef because he is a special wall and 4 Def just to use that last 4 EV's. Careful because I'm not using my special attack and Claydol is a special. Also, with a base 110 Def, it can take physical hits somewhat well. Everything here is pretty self explanatory. I know Claydol is a better wall than Roserade but Roserade isn't a dedicated wall.

494.gif

Victini@Life Orb
Victory Star
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spd
Nature: Timid(+Spd,- Att)
-Blue Flare
-Psychic
-Grass Knot
-Focus Blast

As you know if you read the team building process, I used to use a Zoroark but he was replace d because I couldn't stand not having Illusion when I switched in. Now Victini is burning things to death with a stab Blue Flare. Psychic for dual stab and Grass Knot, for coverage. Focus Miss for even more coverage and this set was again, on Smogon. 252 SpA and 252 Spd because Victini is a sweeper and Timid because I was not using V-Create and even if they said I could use Modest, I would've chosen Timid because I think Victini doesn't need even more power.

620.gif

Mienshao@ Life Orb
Regenerator
EV's: 252 Att/4 SpD/ 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly(+Spd,-SpA)
-Drain Punch
-Hi Jump Kick
-Stone Edge
-U-turn

After looking at Smogon, I hated how it said either HP Ice or Ariel Ace. So, I used all the moves they told me to BUT HP Ice/Ariel Ace and used Drain Punch. Then for the EV's I used what PS told me to use for EV's. Hi Jump Kick for a powerful STAB, Stone Edge for coverage, U-turn for switching if the match-up is unfavorable and Drain Punch, to heal and for more accurate moves. Drain Punch has made me save my Mienshao because if something is weak to Drain Punch and I can take it out while my Mienshao is low on HP, I get to usually over half of my HP back. 252 Att and 252 Spd because of the obvious and 4 SpDef, don't ask me, ask PS.

Overall, I think you have two odd men out on an otherwise very solid team.

Arcanine is just outclassed in general by the other Fire types of the tier. The way I see it, Victini covers the Fire typing for the team and the team could really do with some additional coverage and power. Claydol is considered to be quite bad, it's typing grants it a ton of bad resistances to common moves and pretty much anything super effectve will 2HKO or OHKO Claydol. If you replace Arcanine with something not weak to Rocks then I honestly don't think Claydol is necessary.

This team needs a revenge killer of some sort, as your only sweepers both carry Life Orbs. I'd say the easiest way to fix this would be to give Mienshao a Scarf, but if you're opposed to that then something like Scarf Flygon or Porygon-Z should replace Arcanine.

I think your team would be better off with something like Rhyperior or Swampert in place of Claydol. Both can take hits much better than Claydol and both can also deal nice damage thanks to their high base attack stats.

As a replacement to Claydol, I've found Porygon2 works wonders!
[PIMG]233[/PIMG]
Porygon2@ Eviolite
Trait: Analytic
EVs: 252 HP/ 208 SDef/ 48 Def
Nature: Bold(+Def,-Att)
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Tri Attack
-Recover

You may need to change the EVs around because I forgot them :/

Yeah Rhyperior would be a really great addition as you have something of a Crobat weakness. He can switch into both Roserade and Mienshao and nothing on your team can really take a Brave Bird except for Slowbro, who really doesn't like taking the combo of both BB and U Turn. Crobat would be my main fear with this team but Rhyperior helps you out against a huge range of threats such as most of the electric types (Zapdos, Raikou, Rotom-H, etc.) which you don't have much for.

You also are sort of Scarf Chandelure weak with there being a couple of opportunities for him to switch in and fire off unresisted Shadow Balls. Porygon Z/2 are good choices there.

If you wanted to replace Claydol with another sedentary SR and Toxic platform then Bronzong or Registeel would be good choices for covering Crobat and Outrages then either Ground moves or Ghosts moves depending on which mon.
