[UU] Requesting Arrest Authorization!

Hello Smogonites.

This is my second RMT. Some of you may know me as Ravnos, Lasombra, or Tzimisce on Shoddy (the dude who never chats, mostly because I usually go on Shoddy while in Accounting lecture :3)

The following is a team that I pretty much used in the same format prior to Cresselia and P-Z's departure. However, after those two left UU, I've been doing much worse with this team (although part of that has to do with me having less time to play). As you will see, this team is very prediction oriented. Do I click Facade or Brave Bird? Do I U-Turn out if he has a Rotom? Foresight, or Rapid Spin? Sure, some of these decisions are common to every team but prediction is especially key on this team because many of my pokes have poor type coverage and can't necessarily hurt my opponents to stop setup.

There's also a minor sub-theme of U-turning to keep up momentum on this team. I was tempted to title this RMT U-Turn Me On but that's been done before.

The team members are themed after Kiddy Grade ES members. Fanservice FTW!

And without further ado:

"Let's see how she likes our 1-dimensional blade."

Ambipom (M) @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Fake Out
- Pursuit
- Return
- U-turn

I'll leave it up to you to decide what their
1-dimensional blade" is ;) Ambipom helps me build momentum, simple as that. He matches up well versus many of the leads that give my team problems. SuicideLass is 2KOed by Pursuit if she stays in, limiting her to 1 layer of Spikes. ProLass is less ideal however, typically being able to get up two layers of spikes, and Pain Split away some of Ambipom's health. However, Ambipom is never 2KOed by a combination of Ice Beam and Ice Shard. Omastar and Kabutops are too bulky to mind Ambipom's attacks that much, so I U-turn out to Blastoise usually. Uxie is typically 3KOed unless it runs max/max, although I usually U-turn out to Nidoqueen or Scyther. LO Moltres leads are 2KOed as well, although most don't stay in on Ambipom. If Moltres does stay in on the Fake Out, then I know it's Scarfed and switch to Blastoise. All in all, the metagame seems to be tending more towards bulky setup leads which aren't 2KOed by Ambipom. Nevertheless, I still find him amazingly useful as a way to run down the clock on rain dance teams, as a revenge killer, and as a generic speedy powerhouse. Whenever people test out strange leads on the ladder, Ambipom, more than any other lead, punishes them by 2KOing whatever poke they use. Sometimes I miss the coverage that Low Kick provides, I'm considering possibly dropping U-turn.

"Ta-Da!"

Swellow (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk/6 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Facade
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Quick Attack

And here we have the star of the show, Swellow! Capable of 1-2KOing every poke in UU that doesn't resist its attacks or run max/max HP/Def evs, Swellow is the hardest hitter on my team. Usually, I try to avoid showing Swellow until its counters are dead or weakened, but I don't mind switching it in on predicted ground moves or a Venusaur's Swords Dance to activate Toxic Orb. Having Guts activated can make or break a game and I never know if I'll be able to keep Stealth Rock off the field or not, so I take the opportunities when they arise. Oftentimes, Swellow comes in, fires off a Facade, and then skitters away with U-turn, wearing down its counters 20% of their health at a time until they realize they can't avoid the 2KO from Facade anymore. Although it's definitely not ideal, I have been known to sacrifice Swellow to Registeel in order to Facade it 2-3 times. More on this issue will follow in the summary.

"I'll make them suffer! I'll make them all suffer!"

Scyther (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk/6 Def/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Aerial Ace
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Reversal

Ah, CB Scyther. CB Scyther sees very little play in the meta these days, so most people are surprised at how hard this thing hits. Venusaur is OHKOed without Stealth Rock. SubStall Moltres is comfortably 2KOed by Aerial Ace. Physically defensive Spiritomb is 2KOed by Aerial Ace, although Scyther does risk a burn from Will O' Wisp. Pursuit nabs OHKOs on fleeing Mismagius, as well as finishing off most Rotoms. U-turn, the move I spam most often, rips away upwards of 60% on most non physical tanks in the meta. Scyther's typing affords it some nice switch-in opportunities, eating Power Whips and Mach Punchs like nothing due to its quad resist. Of course, Scyther's typing also gives it that nasty Stealth Rock weakness. I've tried to turn the Stealth Rock weakness into a nasty surprise with Reversal. I've swept many teams after their priority pokes have been knocked out and Scyther is down to 1 HP with a 200bp CB Reversal. The move that I probably care about least and am most open to changing is Pursuit. Oftentimes, I find myself wanting Brick Break or Quick Attack so I might replace Pursuit with those. Overall, Scyther is the most deceptive poke on my team and hits like an absolute truck, just like the villains in Kiddy Grade.

"I used my Kvant ability to save you."

Blastoise (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/6 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Foresight
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Toxic

My spinner. With a team that has Swellow and Scyther, I had to have a spinner to keep them alive and well. Blastoise does the job quite admirably. It's ev'ed to be physically defensive to serve as an emergency check to RP Rhyperior, although sometimes I wish it were specially defensive so I could use it as a check to LO Moltres. Foresight lets me spin against non-double ghost teams, while Toxic lets me beat other bulky waters in stall wars. Venusaur does get free switchins on Blastoise, but after sacrificing a poke to sleep, Scyther and Swellow both scare off and/or KO Venusaur so it's not too bad. I guess Blastoise sort of serves as the "glue" of this team, the defensive pivot of sorts, and when it goes down, my team tends to do poorly.

"You never know when a good briefcase will come in handy."

Nidoqueen (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP/96 Atk/160 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Toxic Spikes
- Earthquake

My specialist and hazard supporter. Nidoqueen provides a variety of services to my team. It phazes several dangerous stat-uppers (Leafeon, Spiritomb, Umbreon), provides SR support, and soaks up weak to medium-strength Close Combats. Poison Point is a nifty bonus that sometimes severely shortens the lifespan of an opposing LO sweeper. I have a love-hate relationship with Toxic Spikes. In UU, Venusaur, Toxicroak, and Drapion regularly come in and ruin all my hard work. But every once in a while, Toxic Spikes provide my only means of winning. They are at their most useful against weather teams. One layer of TS cuts the lifespan of rain sweepers precipitously, and nothing says "FU!" to Stallrein as much as two layers of Toxic Spikes. Some games, I never even try to lay any down. Other games, they save my ass. Just like Armbrust in the anime, Nidoqueen provides specialist services and can save my ass my soaking up physical attacks in a pinch...but a lot of the time, she's just dead weight >_>

"We're going to use that. o_O Really sister? Ugh, get those dirty thoughts out of your head Tweedledum! I meant Windstrom!

Yes sister..."

Mismagius (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 48 HP/252 Spd/208 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Substitute
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ground]

A tribute to my favorite anime twins evaaar. A little something old, a little something new. HGSS fanboys love to gush about how superior NP Mismagius is, but I find that NP Mismagius doesn't fit my team as well. CM Mismagius can setup in the face of many weak pokes such as Lanturn or Milotic that NP Mismagius simply can't do. While NP Mismagius is better at blowing holes in teams, CM Mismagius is much better at clearing away weak-attacking walls after Swellow and Scyther have ripped apart the opposing offensive pokes. I run HP Ground because it still gets a SE hit on Steelix, it allows me to actually beat Raikou if I've gotten a CM, and hits harder against Drapion. It doesn't always KO Absol, but Absol usage seems to have dropped after the banning of Cress. Mismagius functions admirably as a late-game cleaner, and even as a mid-game sweeper on occasion.

Summary

So there you have the team. As you may have noticed, many of my offensive pokes don't have great coverage and must rely on U-turn to get them out of sticky situations. The problem with that is, my defensive pivots, Blastoise and Nidoqueen, have no recovery and can't take special hits well. Another glaring issue is my Registeel weakness. I have nothing that can reliably handle Registeel. Scyther's Reversal only works if it's at extremely low health, Mismagius can only handle Registeel if it's already gotten 2-3 CMs, and I often resort to pounding it with Ambipom's Return or Swellow's Facade in order to bring it into KO range of HP Ground or Scyther's Aerial Ace. That has to be fixed. Anyway, thanks for reading. Threat List given below.

Threat List:

Offensive Threats

dpicon359.png
Absol -
Typically I go to Nidoqueen who easily takes Superpower and Night Slash, and can avoid Sucker Punch by setting up hazards.

dpicon065.png
Alakazam -
Lead Zams are annoying. I usually use Return, sacing Ambipom to the Counter and bringing in Swellow to Quick Attack and activate Toxic Orb

dpicon424.png
Ambipom -
Speed tie wars! Yay! Nidoqueen handles Ambipom easy.

dpicon059.png
Arcanine -
Blastoise or Nidoqueen both hit it SE, Mismagius can OHKO with 1 CM and Stealth Rock damage.

dpicon184.png
Azumarill -
Toxic Spikes makes Azumarill much less dangerous, Blastoise sponges its attacks and it fast enough to Toxic it before it Subs up.

dpicon257.png
Blaziken -
Usually handled by Blastoise. Otherwise, I can sac something to it and clean up with Scyther/Swellow.

dpicon452.png
Drapion -
The sweeper set is handled by Swellow, the special defensive set is handled by Nidoqueen.

dpicon160.png
Feraligatr -
I can't let it get more than one Dragon Dance. Usually, I'll smack it hard with whatever poke it switches in on, then finish it with priority. I've been considering dropping Foresight on Blastoise for Haze.

dpicon478.png
Froslass -
Offensive or Suicide Froslass are handled by Ambipom, otherwise Swellow can clean up. Nevertheless, this thing still sets up easy spikes. It's BL, I'm telling you!

dpicon297.png
Hariyama -
The lead set that cleanup141 popularized is tough, although I can handle it with a combination of Fake Out + Scyther's Aerial Ace.

dpicon106.png
Hitmonlee -
There's a SubSuckerPunch set running around out there that's very tough to beat without good prediction. It all comes down to prediction wars with this one.

dpicon237.png
Hitmontop -
Most generic spinner sets are no threat, with Scyther and Swellow threatening a KO. Technitop sets are really bad for me because they can gradually dismantle Swellow and Scyther.

dpicon229.png
Houndoom -
Eh, if it gets a NP it's dangerous but it almost never does since it's OHKOed by just about every member of my team.

dpicon141.png
Kabutops -
In the rain, Blastoise can eat a SD Stone Edge and OHKO back with Surf. As a lead, Ambipom U-turns out to Blastoise who beats it.

dpicon115.png
Kangaskhan
-
CB Return from Kangaskhan is very strong. If Blastoise and Nidoqueen are weakened, I'll have to sac something to it in order to revenge it.

dpicon470.png
Leafeon -
I can't do much to stop the SD passer set, but the SD sweeper set is checked readily by Nidoqueen.

dpicon467.png
Magmortar -
-rolls over horribly to Swellow/Ambipom/Scyther. Unless it's scarfed, in which case I usually take the opportunity to setup with Missy.

dpicon082.png
Magneton -
Nidoqueen.

dpicon429.png
Mismagius -
Doesn't get many free switchins on my team, and is easily revenged by Ambipom/Swellow/Scyther.

dpicon146.png
Moltres -
MAJOR threat. I have nothing that isn't 2KOed by the LO set. That means if Moltres comes in for free, I'm losing 1-2 pokes at minimum.

dpicon139.png
Omastar -
Grrrrrr. This thing sets up Spikes on me even more easily than Froslass, since most of my attackers are physical-based. I'm tempted to forgo U-turn on Ambipom for Seed Bomb, just to slap Omastar and Kabutops in the face. But I want Low Kick too :( In the rain, I have no special walls so it sweeps easily.

dpicon062.png
Poliwrath -
Eh. If it accumulates some Bulk Ups it's annoying but switching Scyther or Swellow in on a predicted Encore or Bulk Up leads to its swift demise.

dpicon243.png
Raikou -
If it comes in on something it can kill, I'll keep my poke in to break its subs and make sure it doesn't have one up when Swellow comes into smack it with a Facade.

dpicon464.png
Rhyperior -
It can wall/sweep me if Blastoise is dead, simple as that. If Blastoise is alive, 1 Surf send it to a watery grave.

dpicon123.png
Scyther -
I hear Swellows eat bugs for breakfast...

dpicon277.png
Swellow -
Comes down to speed ties and whether or not it stays in on Ambipom's Fake Out

dpicon389.png
Torterra -
I have no Ice moves to OHKO this thing, but repeated U-turns and such will wear it down. Still usually manages to take out 1-2 team members though.

dpicon003.png
Venusaur -
Sac Blastoise to Sleep Powder, then slaughter with Scyther.

Defensive Threats

dpicon009.png
Blastoise - I could care less if the turtle spins my hazards away, since it's probably been poisoned by my Toxic Spikes anyway. The lack of recovery means it dies quickly to Facades and Aerial Aces.

dpicon113.png
Chansey -
Missy sets up all over Chansey. Swellow and Scyther whisper sweet nothings to it.

dpicon344.png
Claydol -
U-turn slaps this thing around like a bean in a tin can.

dpicon091.png
Cloyster -
Ugh. I usually go to Missy to start setting up, as I only need a couple CMs to KO this thing. Still, no one else in my team dents it.

dpicon346.png
Cradily -
Stupid plant monster. In the sand, the Curse set usually 6-0s me >_> I'm contemplating adding a TrickScarfer to my team just to handle this thing.

dpicon232.png
Donphan -
Meh. Blastoise OHKOs, but Donphan never stays in on it anyway. It gets worn down by repeatedly taking Fake Outs and U-turns, but I can't really prevent it from spinning since most sets carry Assurance to hit Missy on the switch. Ice Shard knocks my flying beasties down from the sky which is unpleasant.

dpicon481.png
Mesprit -
I switch Scyther in on anything besides Thunder Wave, and am usually rewarded with a useless Trick which swaps my Band for its Scarf, or a OHKO as I U-turn out.

dpicon350.png
Milotic -
Easy if I have Toxic Spikes, difficult otherwise as it becomes a war of attrition. Rest Talk versions that aren't troubled by Toxic Spikes are setup fodder for Missy. Rest Talk versions that carry Surf and Haze will still eventually fall to Missy.

dpicon031.png
Nidoqueen -
My Nidoqueen absorbs its Toxic Spikes and Blastoise 1-2KOs, depending on EV investment.

dpicon195.png
Quagsire -
Blah. It walls me to no end, but can't do anything serious to hurt me or support its teammates so it's not too terrible.

dpicon377.png
Regirock -
Did I mention I need a strong fighting attack? This thing walls me worse than Registeel and threatens with a strong STAB Stone Edge to knock my fliers down. Toxic Spikes and Missy's Sub stall will kill it, but that's a big if.

dpicon379.png
Registeel -
Solid defenses and typing means Toxic Spikes won't save me. I NEED A STRONG FIGHTING ATTACK.

dpicon479.png
Rotom -
Best spinblocker in UU if you ask me. Threatens Blastoise with Thunderbolt and flings Will O' Wisps like nobody's business. Usually I try and Pursuit it to death.

dpicon080.png
Slowbro -
Missy has her sweet way with Slowbro, and actually, CB U-turn from Scyther does something like 45% to it as well.

dpicon442.png
Spiritomb -
CB Pursuit Trappers infuriate me because they beat my Ambipom hands down. Otherwise, it's a prediction game. If they Trick, I send in Scyther. If they Sucker Punch, I send in Nidoqueen to lay hazards.

dpicon197.png
Umbreon -
If I'm stupid enough to let it get 2 or more Curses, I'm dead. Otherwise, repeated U-turns slaughter it.

dpicon480.png
Uxie -
TrickScarf versions are annoying, although oftentimes I predict and switch to Scyther. Rain Dance leads always get up rain against me but are usually 3KOed by Ambipom.

dpicon110.png
Weezing - Walls my physical attackers to no end, but doesn't have reliable recovery and is setup fodder for Missy, as long as she avoids a Will O' Wisp on the way in.

I would suggest this set to counterThe majority of pokes that trouble your team Blaziken @ Life Orb
Mild - Blaze
4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Fire Blast
- Superpower
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Vacuum Wave

This will 2KO all Regirock sets (as long as it hasn't cursed a few times) and does even better against Registeel. Rotom can't Will-o-Wisp it and Blaziken can still OHKO it with Fire Blast. Can OHKO-2KO just about all of your highlighted threats, except for Milotic, which if you predict well and HP Grass it on the switch, it's pretty weak after SR and the such. Moltres is forced to Air Slash, if its choiced on something else, you just forced an extremely SR weak switch. Swellow and Raikou are possibly the biggest threats because you can only KO Swellow safely if it switches very badly in or get Raikou before it subs.

But great RMT! Good luck with your future teams!
