UU RMT

So, after a month or two's respite and a series of new-fangled Platinum updates, I decided it was time to venture back into the UU metagame. Frightened by what I might find, I was pleasantly surprised by how well, with a few tweaks, my old team fared. It's still lacking something however, so here it is.

Layla (Froslass) (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/4 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Spikes
- Destiny Bond
- Thunderbolt

Amazing UU lead. Layla has been on all my teams and has yet to disappoint. Lays down Spikes, blocks Spinners, and, if I can preserve her Sash, stops sweepers in their tracks with her revenge Bond. As for her name, I'm a Clapton fan, what can I say?

Hell's Bell (Victreebel) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 20 HP/236 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Psychic]
- Sleep Powder

I know, Venusaur's better, but noone expects this. Has the same Sp. Atk as CScarf Saur anyway and had so many KOs before that ugly green tortoise was brought down that I just couldn't bear to replace it. HP Psychic for the OHKO on 'Croak and the 2HKO on Weezing. Speed EVs put it 1 point ahead of Froslass and Jumpluff. Another calssic rock reference here, too...

SquishPert (Gastrodon) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 152 HP/52 Atk/52 SAtk/252 SDef
Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Curse
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Ice Beam

In the last week, Gastro has orchestrated two comebacks from 2 pokes down and one epic comeback from down 4-1 to a 1-0 victory. Ice Beam is there mainly for Altaria, but also hits Grasses on the switch-in for ~35% (on Choiced Venusaur). EQ for STAB, Recover for, well, recovery and Sticky Hold shuts down many of these new Trick users.

Moon Shine (Lunatone) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/136 Spd/120 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Ancientpower

I'm not 100% sure about Lunatone here. It really is not all that bulky even with the Lefties and HP EVs, and it has trouble setting up, but I really wanted to try it out. Platinum was very kind to Lunatone, giving it AP and EP for great coverage, especially when coupled with Ice Beam, but, again, the issue is setting up. Suggestions here would almost definitely be accepted.

Puff-Mence (Altaria) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 104 HP/252 Atk/152 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage

Altaria rocks my socks. Bottom Line. Great late-game sweeper with solid defenses and Roost makes it that much tougher to take down. Natural Cure also makes her a solid status absorber, and the awesome power of +2 Atk STAB Outrage is a sight to behold. Still, she's not quite as bulky as some might think and so finds herself occasionally KO'd by a stupid move on my part. All in all, though, MVP of this team for sure.

Paparazzi (Claydol) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/200 Def/56 SAtk
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- Psychic
- Trick

Trick Scarf Claydol. Mostly just here as a Fighting counter, Trick also screws up a lot of his switch-ins. It also lols at Hitmonlee's new-found Sucker Punch by handing him a Scarf and locking him in while a quick Altaria switch means a free DD for me. EP and Psychic for STAB and coverage and he manages to force switches well, which is great with Froslass' Spikes on the field.

There's my team, rate away!

EDIT: Took Rinsting's suggestion and swapped Lunatone for Muk and he's been quite solid. Helps with Venusaur and Ninetales. Toxic to wear stuff down. Also, changed Rapid Spin for SR on Claydol, but I'm not sure how well that'll work....

Muk (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP/68 Atk/188 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Ice Punch
- Poison Jab
- Toxic
- Brick Break

Decent Lead, but you normally only get 1 layer of Spikes. Destiny Bond is great, but how do you deal with Electrode? You don't OHKO with Ice Beam.

It's no-one. I would really replace with Specs-Saur though. Unless you want a NU team.

SquishPert (Gastrodon) (M) @ Leftovers

Yeah, whatever. Sticky Hold is nice.

Here's probably the best Claydol set for you:

-Stealth Rock (You need Stealth Rock)
-Earth Power (Yeah, whatever)
-Ice Beam
-Trick (Scarf)

You don't need a Spinner with a Roost-Altaria.

There's my team, rate away!

I see a bit of a Specs-Saur weak, because it hits all of your Pokes (not Froslass, but w/e) with this set.

-Leaf Storm (Gastrodon, Claydol, Lunatone)
-HP Ice (Victreebel, Altaria)

You could be awesome and use Muk as a counter though. Here's the set. Use it over...Claydol?

Muk @ Black Sludge
Sticky Hold
252 HP/68 Atk/188 SpD
Adamant
-Poison Jab
-Brick Break
-Ice Punch
-Giga Drain

You're a bit Ninetails weak. Interestingly enough, Ninetails counters itself. You may lose to NP + HP: Ground/Rock Ninetails if you let them get the NP and you lose the speed tie. Otherwise the HypnoPlotting Ninetails are walled by other Ninetails. Consider replacing Lunatone for LO Ninetails.

He isn't that Ninetales weak, Altaria counters it to no end.

When 5/6 members can take a great deal of damage and his only counter has a screaming 4x weakness and SR weakness, it's okay to say he's weak to it.

Pretty straightforward UU team. Not bad though.

I personally would add SR somewhere on this team, either on Claydol or as a Lunatone replacement.

You have a pretty bad Dark/Ghost weak right now by the way, half of the team weak with no resists. You could always drop Lunatone for a Steelix or something.
