UU Team - Misery Loves Company

Good morning Smogon... and in case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night :). So, I've been hanging out on the Smogon server a lot lately because I've had extra time on my hands now that I'm out of school and jobless (sigh no money for me). Anyways, I always have a hard time working on a new team because I get easily distracted and lose focus. But, last night I decided to put my foot down and get to work. Now, I realize this team isn't perfect and there can be some tweaks here and there (especially with my ev's, I haven't taken the time to do damage calcs on my pokes yet). Without further adieu I give you....

My Lead:
208.png

Pain the Steelix @ Leftovers
~ Earthquake
~Stone Edge
~Stealth Rocks
~Roar
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)
EVs 252 HP / 252 ATK / 6 DEF
Ability Sturdy

This guy doesn't mess around. Drop SR's and get out. Taunters are going to eat a STAB EQ and with my ev's it'll put a big dent into many leads. He's not a fan of Uxie leads, but he'll gladly trade SRs and be on his way.

Double Wall:

Misery the Registeel @ Leftovers
~Earthquake
~Ice Punch
~Sleep talk
~Rest
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SpA)
EVs 252 HP / 100 ATK / 6 DEF / 152 SDef
Ability Clear Body

Registeel takes hits like a champ. Not only does he take hits well, but he takes them from both ends of the spectrum. This guy forces so many switches it's not even funny. Switches = SR damage = ^_^.

Counter Sweeper:

Grief the Milotic @ Leftovers
~Hypnosis
~Ice Beam
~Surf
~Recover
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
EVs 148 HP / 252 DEF / 110 SpA
Ability Marvel Scale

So easy to switch between bulky waters and steel types and continuously cause switches. This move set can be easily changed around for your convienence. I like hypnosis so far, but am willing to try out Haze and possible switch out surf for toxic. I guess that depends on how much I need a STAB on Milotic, only testing will tell.

Counter Annoyance:

Torment the Slowbro @ Choice Scarf
~Trick
~Slack Off
~Psychic
~Surf
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
EVs 132 HP / 252 DEF / 126 SpA
Ability Own Tempo

Again the double steel and double bulky water are on my team to cause switches for SR damage. There are so many fragile UU attackers, that stall just seemed like a no brainer. Slowbro has a special role to take on all Fighting and Fire types and deal with them accordingly. I scout the opponets switch and Trick on my 2nd pass with Slowbro. Laugh all you want, Chansey sure isn't...

Another Double Wall:

Agony the Spiritomb @ Leftovers
~Shadow Ball
~Will-o-Wisp
~Pain Split
~Hypnosis
Calm Nature (+SpD, -Atk)
EVs 252 HP / 144 DEF / 114 SpD
Ability Pressure

Spiritomb gets the pleasure of switching in on all the Fighters trying to ko those annoying Steels. When they see spiritomb, they run in horror from the memory of Will-o-Wisp. Again this moveset is subject to change to your liking. It's what has worked for me so far, so why change what isn't broken. This guy hates to see Chansey come in, but he tells Torment how to trick her. I'm sure I can make a better EV spread on spiritomb with more testing.

Wish Master:

Company the Leafeon @ Leftovers
~Wish
~Protect
~Roar
~Leaf Blade
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
EVs 252 HP / 6 ATK / 252 DEF
Ability Leaf Guard

This guy is a huge assistant to this already hard to kill team. He takes most physical hits easily, barring STAB Fires. There isn't much phy ice in UU. It seems that when the dragons leave to go play in OU, so do many of the ice moves. He's the best wish passer I have ever had the pleasure of using and look forward to using him much more in UU. He also Roars all those physical sweepers out before they finish setting up. Leafeon fits the role so epically, it brings tears to my eyes.

CLOSING COMMENTS

So there's my 6-0 UU Team, I hope to take it far up the Ladder. It does need some testing and tweaking, but in the matches I did play, this team just obliterated the opponet. I'm definitely open to comments and suggestions. I hope this team and it's synergy inspires people to start using Leafeon more. If you've read this far and haven't fallen asleep yet, I want to thank you for your time and any reply you might make to help me or ridicule me. My Smogon Nick is: Goose

THE END

3 weaknesses to fire and 2 to electric, this team prays a mix blaziken does not come your way. I would drop steelix as you have another good steel wall in registeel and leafeon is very bulky in the physical defense department.

The way my team works it automatically has 2 Fire and 2 lightning weaknesses. Leafeon was just a 3rd fire weakness, but hasn't been a problem so far. I just did a damage calc for an Adamant Max Atk Blaziken using t-punch and the results were.

114-134 = 31%-37% Slowbro (after lefties isn't even 3hko'd)
141-166 = 38%-45% Milotic (3hko'd and can recover 56% per turn)

Here's the calc on steelix for a Adamant Max Atk Flare Blitz

202-237 = 57%-67% (mind you that even a CB Flare Blitz wouldn't even 1hko and I would KO back with the recoil and STAB EQ)

How often do you think I leave my steelix in on a Fire poke? Although after more play testing, I do think I need to fit a spiker in somehow.

You should really take Conan's advice on the Fire/Electric weakness. Aswel as Blaziken with T-Punch and Fire Blast, there is Manectric with Thunderbolt and Flamethrower.

I don't disagree that it does need some work, but it's gone 10-1 now, and the 1 I lost was to a team that managed to get up 3x spikes and SR while I don't have a spinner/spiker of my own. The spinner isn't a huge problem because I am confident I can outlast the other spiking team with all my recovery while having wish passing and 2 phazers myself

To be honest, I really don't think your team needs Leafeon, considering that all but Steelix have recovery. In his place, I would suggest standard wall Tangrowth. It would look like this:

move 1: Sleep Powder
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Power Whip
move 4: Synthesis / Leech Seed
item: Leftovers
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

Tangrowth is bulkier than Leafeon due to his much larger HP, and a stronger STAB in Power Whip. You can even switch to Adamant to mimic your current set. And he can use sleep powder and knock off, two invaluable moves.

Should you decide to switch to Tangrowth, I would recommend removing Hypnosis from Milotic (as Sleep powder is obviously more reliable) and replacing it with Toxic, as you may have a difficult time muscling through dedicated walls like Slowbro, who takes 49.24% - 58.38% from your current Spiritomb, and takes 39.59% - 47.21% from your Leafeon, or 44.67% - 53.30% from Impish Tangrowth, and can hit back with Ice Beam or Toxic.

You may also want to consider dropping Hypnosis on Spiritomb, as two Sleep moves is generally unnecissary, but I don't know what for.

Godd luck with the team!

How often do you think I leave my steelix in on a Fire poke?
Nobody thinks you will. But being predictable and switching out to a fire counter is something that good players think about and capitalize on. Example:

Mix Blaziken Vs Steelix and Slowbro:
You switch out to Slowbro.
Fire Blast isn't very effective...
Blaziken matches up with Steelix again later in the match.
You switch to Slowbro.
Blaziken uses HP Grass.
Slowbro lost 60-70% of it's health.

Sorry, but 11 games isn't enough to base a successful team off of. You could easily have just gotten lucky and have yet to deal with your key issues yet. I had a team that worked wonders for about 20 games until I finally faced a stall team and got my butt handed to me, and then proceeded to get it handed to me by similar teams. You have to consider all the possibilities.

First off, there are too many shared weaknesses here. You just can't have this many weaknesses to fire with so many Blaziken, Moltres and Arcanine around. Sure, you have two water types, but both Blaziken and Moltres often carry HP Grass/Electric simply for Milotic and Slowbro. And now that Dugtrio is UU (and will soon be usable on Shoddy), two weaknesses to ground is really gonna haunt you. My suggestion to fix that is to replace Steelix with Uxie, as Uxie is also very physically bulky and couples well with Registeel. You now no longer have to deal with a double ground and fire weakness, and now you also gain an immunity to ground. A standard 252/252 Bold Uxie with Stealth Rock and U-turn will do more for you than you Steelix does currently. Or you could even go dual screens+stealth rock to add to the already massive bulkiness of the team.

Another general note is that the type coverage on your attacks is quite poor; you have two pokes with surf, two pokes with ice attacks, and two with Earthquake. You can definitely find some other type coverage that fulfills the role of one of your current pokes just fine. I would replace Milotic with another bulky, hard-hitting physical attacker like Hariyama or Tauros. This also correlates to my final critique...

...You have no dedicated physical attackers. Chansey and Registeel can easily outstall half your team any day, and seeing as how common they are now, that's not something you want to have. It's always nice to have a fast, hard-hitting, clean-up sweeper that picks off what's left after everything else has worn them down.

But anyway, those are just suggestions. You can just shrug off this advice as well, if you so choose.

Hmm well since you have a notably huge weakness to things like mixed blaziken(as it can quite literally 2HKO your entire team) I'd suggest ditching leafeon, who is adding nothing in terms of resistances, for a defensive altaria. I'm not too sure about how the evs on defensive altarias go; but just use something like roost/heal bell/ dragon pulse/roar.

Your team will love the heal bell since slowbro, milotic, and spritomb just despise toxic and altaria is also a decent check to roserade in case something happens to registeel. That's all for now i guess.

You might want to consider Specs on Slowbro. Scarf does nothing for it, but specs lets it hit hard with Water/Psychic's good neutral coverage. Tricking Specs onto a strong special attacker could be a problem, but it's certainly going to cripple walls either way.

Also, you're essentially running a stall team, yet SR is the only passive damage you have. Spikes or Toxic Spikes would probably be welcome on this team.

Folgorio... if I may. If you run Stalltaria, consider this spread:

Altaria @ Leftovers
Careful; 248 Hp/ 40 Def./ 20 Spe./ 200 Sp. Def.
Roost/ Heal Bell/ Perish Song/ Aerial Ace.

-248 Hp is for odd number Hp for SR switch ins. 20 Spe. is for outspeeding most bulky Venusaur so you are not getting 2HKO'd by sludge bomb after taking SR damage (24 COULD be better but the rounded numbers on the defensive stats look pretty and few people ever bother running more than 8 speed on Venusaurs anyway). Aerial Ace hits more of the things she needs to counter alot harder that Dragon Pulse, examples being Missy, Blaziken, Toxicroak, and you can try fighting Yanmega should you not be taking SR damage and you feel lucky enough to not get flinch hax against you. And perish song is a big help against last poke stat uppers that cannot be phazed the normal way (Crotomb for example).
----------

Also, ditto on the specs > scarf on Slowbro

Altaria @ Leftovers
Careful; 248 Hp/ 40 Def./ 20 Spe./ 200 Sp. Def.
Roost/ Heal Bell/ Perish Song/ Aerial Ace.

Err just out of curiosity what are the benefits of using perish song over roar?

Last pokemon stat upers. If its the last pokemon, Crotomb isnt going anywhere and if Slowbro's scarf(lol) is already tricked, then its bad news for this team. Haze on Milotic couldn't hurt in that regard, but 3 moves dedicated to p/hazing is kind of overdoing it. Maybe Haze on Milo and run a different move altogether on Altaria. I just prefer Perish Song over Roar because it's what I needed for my stall team...
