UU team

After making an OU rain dance team, an NU trick room team and an OU toxic spikes team, I though I'd give the UU tier a try, since I'd never really experimented with the Pokemon in it before. Here goes:

uxie.png

Uxie@Light Clay
Careful (+SpD/-SpA)
Levitate
80 HP/252 SpD/176 Def
~ Reflect
~ Light Screen
~ U-turn
~ Yawn

Dual screens Uxie sets up screens for the whole team, and then either switches out of helps to force switches with yawn to help Altaria and Houndoom set up. EVs given give Uxie a massive SpD stat, and a very respectable Def stat as well. Once the screens are up, Uxie is practically impossible to KO, and so can comfortably come back in later in the game to set the screens up again. On the downside, she is complete taunt fodder.

hitmontop.png

Hitmontop@Life Orb
Adamant (+Atk/-SpA)
Technician
252 Atk/98 HP/120 Def/40 SpD
~ Mach Punch
~ Bullet Punch
~ Fake Out
~ Pursuit

Technitop stands as a brilliant revenge killer, with STAB mach punch with life orb reaching 117 power including STAB. bullet punch is there mainly for coverage, and pursuit to hit ghosts and Shedinja. just a generic Technitop set really. EVs give 'top maximum attacking power, whilst also providing some staying power.

crawdaunt.png

Crawdaunt@Choice Scarf
Jolly(+Spe/-SpA)
Shell Armour
252 Atk/252 Spe/4 HP
~ Waterfall
~ Crunch
~ Brick Break
~ Rock Slide

I wanted to try out a Choice Scarf user in this team, and scarf Crawdaunt really does the job. He's always a surprise to the opposition, and the scarf makes him faster than almost everything in UU. EVs are standard, Jolly nature and speed IV to maximize speed. Waterfall and Crunch are the main STAB moves on this set, Rock Slide and Brick Break deal with other types, providing perfect coverage.

sceptile.png

Sceptile@Choice Specs
Timid (+Spe/-Atk)
Overgrow
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 HP
~ Leaf Storm
~ Energy Ball
~ HP Ice
~ Focus Blast

Specstile was another pokemon I wanted to try out, and I am very impressed with its power. with base 120 Speed, not much outspeeds him at all, and with the SPecs boosting his already impressive SpA, very little survives a Leaf Storm. HP Ice is for Dragons and other grass types, Focus Blast is a powerful move, though I don't like the accuracy, suggestions for a replacement would be appreciated. Energy ball is for if I think Sceptile is going to be able to sweep, Leaf Storm is great for revenge killing, and is difficult to switch into. Specs boosted Leaf Storm comfortably OHKOs Walrein, Lapras and Milotic, pokemon who would otherwise give me trouble

houndoom.png

Houndoom@Focus Sash
Timid (+Spe/-Atk)
Flash Fire
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 HP
~ Flamethrower/Fire Blast
~ Dark Pulse
~ Nasty Plot
~ ?

I had a NP Houndoom in my original party who took on the league on her own at level 81, and so I wanted to make a good one for competitive battling. Focus sash lets me set up nasty plot more easily, and helps 'Doom survive more easily. Fire Blast is for a powerful STAB attack, and Dark Pulse helps for coverage. My last move is undecided at the moment, I've been thinking about hiden power or protect, although fire-dark attacking combo gives almost perfect coverage anyway. EVs are standard, and timid nature is to boost her speed. Only drawback here is that she's often out sped by other pokes, which is never a good thing. any ideas for improvements or replacements are appreciated.

altaria.png

Altaria@Yache Berry
Adamant (+Atk/-SpA)
Natural Cure
16 Atk/252 HP/104 Spe/136 SpD
~ Dragon Dance
~ Dragon Claw
~ Roost
~ Aerial Ace

DD Altaria fills the last slot in my team, and once it's set up it can really sweep. Usually needs to DD twice before it's really any good, but with roost and good defences and resistances, that's not usually a problem. Dragon Claw and Aerial Ace are there for the STAB, although I'm considering changing Aerial Ace for Power Herb Sky Attack, for a really powerful STAB.

That's the lot. Any suggestions on how to improve are much appreciated :)

Thanks in Advance

Well get rid of sash on houndoom, things like rocks, spikes and weather will nulify it. And change it's nature to Hasty and put Sucker Punch in the final slot, it's a good way of beating faster, frailers pokemon like Alakazam.

I also recommend you change to the rest, sleep talk, dd, Outrage Altaria on site, it gives your team a status absorber, plus is really bulky and can do loads of damage to everything bar steels with outrage after a few dd's.

Pretty good team anyway

Hope I helped,

Hello

This looks like a cool team but I would like to suggest some changes.
Your team would really appreciate Stealth Rock. I suggest it on Uxie since Uxie is a very reliable lead that can set up Stealth Rock on the first turn most of the time. I also suggest a slightly different EV spread for your Uxie. A spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD with an Impish nature will be more beneficial for you.

Your Hitmontop would really appreciate the sheer power of Close Combat. I suggest you use it instead of Pursuit. Close Combat is a more powerful STAB move that you are going to need more the once.

Even with a Choice Scarf Crawdaunt isn't going to be very smart. So I'm suggesting you to replace him. I'll stay in the trend of a Bulky Water sweeper so I am suggesting a full offensive Milotic set:

Milotic @ life orb/ timid/ marvel scale
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

- Hydro Pump / Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Grass
- Recover

Like Bartman101 said, Focus Sash is quite redundant. Therefor I suggest a slightly different set. It is also a Nasty Plot set but with slightly different EV's and Sucker Punch to make sure you aren't revenge killed by Dugtrio:

Houndoom @ life orb/ hasty/ flash fire
100 Atk / 184 SpA / 224 Spe

- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch

My last suggestion is changing Altaria's set a little. Aerial Ace isn't giving you much extra coverage paired with a Dragon type move so I suggest replacing that. You are also using the EV spread for the Defensive Dancer set so that the prefered set, it also provides team support with Heal Bell.

Altaria @ leftovers/ careful/ natural cure
252 HP / 16 Atk / 176 SpD / 64 Spe

- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
- Heal Bell

Hope this helped and good luck with the team!

I agree with taking of focus sash from Houndoom and replace it with life orb. The final slot in Houndoom's moves could be either sucker punch as said before or hp flying, to provide perfect coverage in UU. Teach Uxie Stealth Rock becuase rocks would help your altaria and Houndoom sweep easily. The Altaria set above would also work better because it's safer not to attempt setting up on ice types which Houndoom can already do.

There are so many better water type scarfers out there, instead of Crawduant. Sure Crawduant is a surprise to the opposition but is the only thing it's going to do, for one turn. I would suggest replacing with Offensive Milotic and changing your Sceptile to Scarf. Sceptile with a scarf is much faster than every unboosted poke in UU. Sceptile with scarf can also eliminate faster threats that threaten your Houndoom and Altaria.

if your looking to use a scarfed water pokemon to hit the opposition hard, kingler is a much better choice than crawdaunt, it has more base attack and speed.

Kingler @ Choice Scarf/ jolly/ hyper cutter
32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe

- Crabhammer / Waterfall
- Return
- Rock Slide
- X-Scissor / Superpower

So,

After looking through your team I noticed two things. One was that after Altaria is removed, you have a glaring Scyther weakness, and even then, Altaria is 2HKO'd by Aerial Ace iirc. He can hit 3 of your members for super effective damage and a competent player can easily play around Sceptile, who happens to share a common weakness with Altaria, Ice. A Swellow can easily run through your team while the best you have to combat it is something that is actually weak to it in the first place, Hitmontop. For these reasons I suggest you switch out your current Houndoom for a Scarf Rotom. The set is as follows:

479.gif
@ Choice Scarf
Nature: Timid
252 SpA, 4 SpD, 252 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- HP Fight / HP Grass / Will-o-Wisp
- Trick

Using this Rotom will allow you to have a solid check for both Swellow and Scyther. By switching in on any of their attacks, praying that either doesn't use U-turn as to not give away your counter, survive barring a critical hit, you can retaliate with Thunderbolt for a swift OHKO. It also allows you to knock out any opposing ghosts and gives you a solid second revenge killer in case the need arises.

Another suggestion I have for you is that Altaria doesn't have much time to set up, even with a Yache Berry, it can easily be disposed of by a Donphan, or any other Pokemon utilizing Ice Priority or even an Ice attack if they can survive a hit. Altaria won't be OHKO'ing much with weak STAB regardless. So with that in mind I suggest you try this set instead, which gives Altaria much greater initial power and enables it to break down early walls for a later sweep by any of your other Pokemon.

334.gif
@ Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
108 HP, 252 Atk, 148 Spe
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw / Sleep Talk
- Rest

This allows you to open up chances for other Pokemon to sweep by hitting many opposing members for large amounts of damage. It also gives you a good status absorber thanks to Altaria's ability Natural Cure and gives you a fantastic pivot against Venusaur. Sleep Talk allows you to have an option to use against Venusaur who thing putting you to sleep effectively shuts you down while Rest allows you to heal up to full health then switch out and come back later awake and in charge, again thanks to Natural Cure. It requires no set up and can muscle its way through many teams.

Lastly, I also fully support the above suggestion of Crawdaunt > Kingler as the speed actually allows it to outspeed RP Rhyperior after a boost and more importantly Swellow i.e the majority of the UU tier, while Crawdaunt only manages to outspeed base 105's but still gets maimed by the likes of Sceptile, Alakazam, Swellow, etc. All of which can probably OHKO with the appropriate move. But if you're hellbent on using Crawdaunt I suggest changing the EV spread to 12 HP, 252 Atk, 227 Spe as you're outspeeding nothing you couldn't be with the spread I just suggested.

Feel free to disregard any of my advice if you don't find it helpful, I won't feel offended. Good luck with your team.

IMO, Sharpedo is a better choice for a Scarfer than Crawdaunt or Kingler. It outspeeds the entire tier, including most opposing Scarfers, and hits hard from either side with 120 Atk (10 less than Kingler) and 95 SAtk, allowing a mixed set. It also maintains the two STABs you found useful in Crawdaunt.

In regard's to magic.'s post, Specs Altaria does more damage than CB 'Taria with the higher BP Draco Meteor, although that would be your fourth (if you took the Scarf Rotom advice, which I recommend) Choice user, which could be a problem.

Scarf Sharpedo would prove to be a harder, faster hitting user compared to both, the only reason it might prove to be a problem is its insane frailty which a team, as Chateau pointed out, riddled with choice users, could prove to be trouble.

The added power of Draco Meteor is pretty useful, and there are two possible work things you could do. One you could run a Specs set, but as said before the many choice users might not be the best thing. Instead you can run a special LO set, or a mixed set. For the mixed set you could try this:

334.gif
@ Life Orb
Nature: Naive
120 Atk, 252 SpA, 136 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Claw / Outrage
- Earthquake
- Roost / Roost

I typically use it where I wait for a moment when I know I can safely switch in Altaria and hopefully cause a switch. Then, as they switch in a possible counter which they think can run her out, they get smacked with a Draco Meteor. This itself usually chips of at least half of their health, and with stealth rock damage, is able to achieve quite a few OHKO's. Then afterwards, I switch to a physical attack, or just use Draco Meteor once more if I am sure it can still hit them for the KO. I used Dragon Claw, until I realized that Draco Meteor can still often hit for more damage even after the SpA drop, so Outrage can be used for more power, albeit at the trade off of being locked on into it. This set will be switching out quite a bit, which works wonders with Altaria's ability Natural Cure, which makes it able to shurg off statuses it accumulated. Also, if a cleric is needed, any of the moves, asides from Draco Meteor obviously, can be swapped out for Heal Bell.

thnaks very much guys. After testing crawdaunt a little, it really does lack power, as even super hits sometimes don't get the kill. I think I will replace him with kingler or sharpedo, as suggested, sharpedo does sound interesting.

Altaria too, has been a bit of a disappointment, although HMT has saved my arse enough times so far, managing to revenge kill stupidly well with MP. Thanks for all suggestions

EDIT: NP sub houndoom sounds like a lot of fun as well, I'll give it a try ASAP
