UU Trick Room Team (DOUBLES) - First Team

Well I'm new to competitive battles (seriously I've had like 10 at most) and I've made my first ever team. I knew I wanted Trick Room as my "theme" straight away as turning an opponents advantage (speed) on it's head is something I love. Anyway I'm not really sure of the current threats AT ALL so feel free to change any Pokémon and lecture me :) I need it. Also I'm not really good with planning EV's so I just done 252 or 126/126 spreads :S

I play with Item Clause on.
BOLD = CHANGES MADE

Exeggutor @ Focus Sash - Quiet
Ability: Doesn't matter here.
EV: 252Atk/252SpA/4HP
-Explosion
-Trick Room
-Leaf Storm
-Psychic

Exeggutor almost always guarantees Trick Room is set up on the first turn. With Hariyama out on the field flinching the other Pokémon, Focus Sash cannot be nullified (unless they've got two Ghosts). By "nullified" I mean I can't get OHKOED but I do realise it will get activated and then I can die by weather conditions. If Exeggutor can take another hit after TR is up I'll do some damage then Explode.

Hariyama @ Muscle Band - Brave
Ability: Thick Fat
EV: 252Atk/126Def/126SpD
-Protect
-Fake Out
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge

Hariyama ALWAYS goes out with Exeggutor because it has Fake Out which ensures TR is set up. HP is already huge and the Def/SpD EV's ensure he can take a hit or two from the first round and still be there to do damage once TR is up. CC gets STAB and Stone Edge was more of a powerful filler as I don't have access to Emerald/Platinum (yet) for Ice Punch. Protect is to make sure Hariyama isn't taken out by Exeggutor's Explosion. Thick Fat as an ability helps to make up for the Fire weakness on my Parasect but I don't think that matters if Parasect is out AFTER Hariyama.

parasect.png

Parasect @ Bug Plate - Brave
EV: 252Atk/126Def/126SpD
Ability: Dry Skin
-Spore
-Seed Bomb
-Swords Dance
-X-Scissor

I've found Parasect to be INCREDIBLY useful to me. Depending on what Pokémon's out I either Spore or just go and SD straight away. Spore normally forces switches and Seed Bomb gives me a little coverage. I did use Stun Spore but it would turn out to be counter-productive in the long run (thanks again Starman). I know I only having 1 attack (and it being bug as well) is bad but after a SD or two it's still going to hurt. After TR as well Parasect is the "fastest" on my team.

dusclops.png

Dusclops @ Leftover - Relaxed
Ability: Pressure
EV: 252HP/252Def OR SpD/4Atk
-Trick Room
-Pain Split
-Shadowpunch
-Protect

I'm not sure whether or not to pump max EV's into either Def or Special Def (SpD) on Dusclops. I could split them like I've done on my other Pokémon though. Any suggestions here anyone? Anyway, Trick Room is here because I need another Roomer and Pain Split offers recovery and slight damage (well not really damage) to the opponent. S.Punch over Sneak as I'm not going to need priority really under TR conditions and Punch has more power. Any suggestions on what I could put on the last slot other than Protect? I would use Thunderpunch or something similar but (as I've already said) I don't have access to Emerald/Platinum yet. I'm only using Protect for now as it gives me immunity (for one turn) to Rampardos' EQ.

I chose to use Dusclops over Slowking for several reasons. The first being that I wanted a Slowking to set up, Slack Off damage and then sweep as well as being able to TR. Too many jobs for one Pokémon. Plus setting up doesn't really work under TR conditions as most TR sweepers are very fragile. Dusclops also offered an invaluable Explosion immunity which if I wanted on Slowking meant I needed to run Protect somewhere.

rampardos.png

Rampardos @ Life Orb/Choice Band - Brave
EV: 252HP/252Atk/4Def
Ability: Mold Breaker
-Head Smash
-Zen Headbutt
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide

Rampardos isn't meant to be around for long so I thought heck, may as well let him go out with a bang so I gave him Life Orb. Head Smash tears through most things and Zen Headbutt gives coverage as does EQ. Stone Edge is a filler over Fire Punch because (as already mentioned), I don't have Emerald/Platinum. Rock Slide (thanks StarmanXL) hits both of my opponents Pokémon and with Rampardos' attack it won't make much of a difference in terms of power. Plus I get a chance to flinch both Pokémon.

Choice Band gives more of a boost than Life Orb but locks me into one move which is almost always bad for me. Life Orb doesn't restrict me at all but, (as pointed out by Relictivity), Head Smash + Life Orb = Dead in 2 turns.

323.jpg

Camerupt @ ??? - Brave/Quiet
Ability: Solid Rock
EV: 252SpA/156Atk/96HP
-Eruption
-Earth Power
-Flamethrower/Heatwave
-Explosion

I know I should use more EV's in HP to give Eruption power but 156Atk EV's (I think) give me a OHKO on almost everything or it will at least bring Pokémon down to the red HP zone with Explosion. Eruption hits both Pokémon (opponents) right off the bat at max power (full HP) and I can switch to a (with lower HP) stronger Heatwave that still hits both Pokémon. Earth Power is like a single target EQ and Explosion lets him go out with a boom. I don't have to worry about Explosion anymore as Dusclops is a Ghost and is immune. Any suggestions for items though anyone? I'm not sure what to put on here because of Item Clause. I might just take it off.

That's my team so feel free to criticise and point out any flaws in my team (I know there will be a lot but please post some =]). I know that I don't have a Gyarados counteror really any other OU counter but I just can't think of any that fits into a TR team and I'm not too fussed about OU either (not that I know the current threats or anything lol). I'm not sure what other threats there are in OU so feel free to change this team as you see fit. Even change this team to single battles if you want because I don't mind playing singles but I just prefer doubles.

Please just take some time to RMT even if it is just pointing out basics to me :)

I'll attempt a quick rate. Well I don't play UU doubles but it shouldn't matter much since most of the good TR pokes aren't OU anyways with the expection of Bronzong, Dusknoir, and Rhyperior. I'll try my best to take Item Clause into account when rating your team. Just a note on your format, it would really help if you include your abilites.

To start out, for your EV spreads I'd recommend starting with the sets mentioned in the analysis and then going from there. That's what I do and it's been working out well thusfar.

I was a little iffy at first on your Exeggutor but now I see where you're going and think it's pretty good. However, I would probably get rid of Psychic as it gets crappy coverage anyway; since you'be Spore on Parasect I'd say either Reflect or Light Screen, preferable Reflect, to give your team some extra defense. The analysis says to use 4 Def over 4 HP but I've honestly no idea why.

Hariyama looks good, but I'd rather go with the SubPunch set's EVs over your current ones (76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 Def) with a Brave nature. I guess Stone Edge is fine until you can get Emerald or Platinum. Consider Muscle Band over Fist Plate so you can power up Stone Edge and Fake Out as well. I recommend running Thick Fat since you've got three Fire weaks.

On Parasect, DO NOT RUN STUN SPORE AT ALL! It will make your opponent faster in TR and is overally counter-productive if the enemy doesn't fully paralyze. It also leaves you with bad coverage. I would highly recommend dropping it for either Seed Bomb or Brick Break. Also, you'd probably be best dumping your Sp. Def and Def EVs all into HP (I think). I wouldn't personally go Swords Dance but if it works for you by all means continue. I would go Dry Skin as the ability as it will make it easier to take on RD teams (most get massacred by TR anyway) not to mention Effect Spore might screw you over by paralyzing the opponent.

I suppose the reason you choose Uxie over Slowking was because of Levitate for Rampardos's EQ, but that's useless as Mold Breaker would nullify it. I'm personally not fond on using Uxie as its really too fast for TR in my opinion, not to mention yours is murdered by Taunt. If you're intent on keeping it I would probably drop Yawn since you have Spore on Parasect and SR since in my experience it's not terribly helpful in doubles; replace them with some attacks or something I guess. I personally would find Slowking more useful her as she's "faster" in TR and has recovery--you don't have to run NP on her, as I've run Slowking without it just fine. I dunno about this one.

Now, Rampardos is made for these type of teams, but you run into a huge problem when you attempt to run EQ on that set--Rampardos's ungodly high attack is going to hurt your partner significantly, and you can't dodge with Levitate thanks to Mold Breaker, so I think if you're going to use Rampardos you're gonna have to drop EQ. It really bites that you don't have access to Platinum or Emerald, but if you can manage it, I think that Hammer Arm would be a good substitute for EQ--it hits most of the same things for SE and it will lower your speed, making you "faster" in TR. In addition, in Stone Edge's place I would rather run Rock Slide--STAB and your massive ATK will offset the low BP, and you'll be able to hit both opponents with a chance to flinch.

I think Glaceon's a little out of place here with its speed and Wish/Protect. If you were to keep it, I guess you could go a more offensive route? I dunno, but if you're willing to change her, there are some other good special sweepers that are slow. Camerupt is an awesome choice, as you can abuse Eruption to hit both opponents hard and then Heat Wave when your HP gets low (if you can breed for it) or you can blow up on your foe, although it doesn't seem like your team takes Explosion exceptionally well. Cacturne is another excellent, though frail, choice who can go mixed if you want and also gets Destiny Bond for a surprise KO when he's served his purpose. You could try Spiritomb as its immune to Explosion and quite slow but its special attack stat and movepool is rather meh.

If you can, test this team out on Netbattle since its a lot easier to make changes there than it is on Wi-Fi, then take the final product and form your team.

I would suggest Slowbro or Slowking over Uxie.

Slowking / Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Own Tempo
Nature: Quiet / Relaxed
EVs: Slowking: 252 HP/252 SAtk/4 SDef OR Slowbro: 212 HP/252 Def/44 SAtk
- Trick Room
- Surf
- Slack Off
- Nasty Plot / Calm Mind / Protect

The nice thing about using Slowking/bro is that Surf will heal Parasect (if you use Dry Skin) and hit both opponents. The main advantage to using Slowking would be for sweeping, since it can use Nasty Plot. Slowbro is more reliable of a wall with its awesome defense. You'd probably want to use Calm Mind to boost Special Defense and to power up Surf. Protect is always an option for either of them to watch out for Explosions. It will also allow you to leave Earthquake on Rampardos.

Thank you both Starman and greg.

Thanks for pointing out Mold Breaker I hadn't realised that as I managed to clear out all my opponents teams (even though that was like 5 battles worth) in the first TR and hadn't used Uxie yet. I'll run greg's Slowking over Uxie.

Yeah, my Hariyama does have Thick Fat and I think my Parasect has the Effect Spore ability. I'll take your advice (yet again) and replace it with a Parasect with Dry Skin, dropping Stun Spore in the process for Seed Bomb. I'll use Muscle Band as well because its got to be better than the Arceus Plates. Should I try Life Orb on Hariyama and Choice Band on Rampardos? It would limit Ramp's options though.

I'll use Rock Slide as I see your reasoning but I'm going to keep Earthquake. The problem is though I'm going to get hit by it. I'm going to drop Glaceon for Camerupt (until I get Platinum then I'm going to review my team again) but it still doesn't solve my EQ issue. I would put Protect on Slowking (I'm going to add him back in) but I prefer NP although I might not have much of a choice here. I could run Spiritomb for the reasons you mentioned but I don't know who to drop for Spiritomb.

Exeggutor and Hariyama are definitely staying, Slowking is being put in place of Uxie and Camerupt is taking over Glaceon's spot. That leaves Parasect and Rampardos left. Rampardos has huge attack right off the bat whereas Parasect can shut down Pokémon, stat up and then lay on the hurt.

Here's a thought that just came to me; do you think it would be wise to drop Parasect and run Spiritomb over it? I can use Hypnosis (Spore with less accuracy)to shut down Pokémon and use Pain Split to recover off damage somewhat. I could run Shadowball or another attacking move with Nasty Plot. That way it's like a mini-Slowking and then I can run Slowking with Protect if I need to or give him another attacking move. Problem is though is that I lose synergy (Dry Skin/Surf) with Parasect and Surf is hurting some of my Pokémon and I'm back to square one.

Finally, (finishing this long post) do you think this would be an ok Camerupt build? I'm not going to post Spiritomb yet as I'm still undecided about using him. I'm going to use greg's Slowking build.

Camerupt @ Leftovers - Quiet/Brave
Ability: Solid Rock
-Eruption
-Earth Power
-Heat Wave
-???

I'm not sure on what to have for the last move. I would use Explosion if I added Spiritomb to my team or I could try Yawn/Roar. I'm not sure.

Slowking @ ???
Ability: Own Tempo
Nature: Quiet / Relaxed
EVs: Slowking: 252HP/252SpA/4SpD
- Trick Room
- Surf
- Slack Off
- Nasty Plot/Calm Mind/Protect

Now I don't know who to run Leftovers on. It would work better on Slowking but then I don't know what to put on Camerupt. I might just take Item Clause off because it's really becoming an inconvenience.

Few things.

Since this is doubles, my advice is to not rely on boosting moves, especially the same ones for multiple pokemon. So keep Parasect, or run Dusknoir instead as he can act as another TRer. You can then repace Slowbro if you want.

Get rid of HS off of Rampardos... Life Orb + Head Smash = dead in 2 Turns. Only Relicanth can really use Head Smash reliably.

For Camerupt, run HP or Explosion if you decide to get a ghost.

Not much else really.

Yeah I just learnt what you said Relictivity (sorry if that's spelt wrong). I just finished my EV training on Slowking about 2 hours ago and just went down to my nearest Café and got my but handed to me because I tried to set up halfway through TR and I got sweeped. I'm going to try and use Pokémon that're strong right off the bat as opposed to setting up. Setting up only really works well for singles anyway and Trick Room (I think) is more about hitting hard straight away.

Hmm...these are only a few suggestions but they're helping me greatly and I'm starting to understand my team more and what to and not to do. I'm going to review my team and repost it.

Thanks guys!
