Chapter 1: The Reaping

1742786126470.png

Good evening fellow UUFPLers. My name is BigSnowMantis. It is time for a quarter century celebration! The time has come again for us to gather in the Capitol, to celebrate our superiority and indulge in the finest entertainment money can buy. This year’s spectacle promises to be something truly extraordinary—so extraordinary, in fact, that we’ve had to go above and beyond, pulling from districts whose contributions to the Games will surely leave a lasting mark in history. The competition is fierce, and the stakes are higher than ever. Each district has chosen its champions—each one a symbol of its people’s indomitable spirit, and each one a reflection of the quirks and absurdities that define them.

Allow me to take you on a brief tour of the districts, where behind each name lies a tale of mayhem and absurdity.

District 1: Blipbug City Battlegirls

Blipbug City, once a sleepy town in the rolling hills of District 1, became the birthplace of what is now a globally renowned martial arts academy for bug-themed combatants. At its core, the city was founded by the notorious duo Lolo and Jawa—two siblings who famously spent their childhood being raised by a clan of sentient caterpillars. Under the guidance of these insecticulturists, Lolo and Jawa trained their Blipbug City Battlegirls to become the most feared fighters in the district. Their combat style involves synchronized, bug-like movements, including leg-scrunching stances, unpredictable pincer strikes, and devastating web-swing attacks. Their leader, Jawa, was even rumored to have once engaged in a deadly duel with an actual, giant hornet—winning the match by giving the insect a lecture on the importance of teamwork. The Battlegirls are poised to show the Capitol that being small and agile is far more terrifying than one might think.

District 2: Azelf on the Shelf

District 2, a district long known for its rigid militarism, has produced the mysterious and frighteningly disciplined team of Azelf on the Shelf. Led by the psychotic duo Drew and Taka, who were once rejected from every major "shelf decoration" competition in the Capitol for being too "offensive," these two menagerie enthusiasts have made it their mission to raise highly trained psychic creatures—specifically, Azelfs, who are capable of manipulating the very fabric of reality itself. In their district, "Azelf on the Shelf" is a popular children's game, where Azelfs are placed on high shelves to oversee the daily activities of the citizens. Drew and Taka took this simple game and turned it into a deadly art of manipulation. It is said that if you make eye contact with an Azelf for more than 10 seconds, your mind will be flooded with thoughts of entirely unhelpful life advice. These tributes are as unpredictable as their minds, and they are not to be underestimated.

District 3: Flapple Bottom Jeans

District 3 is home to the most bizarre fashion craze the Capitol has ever seen. The Flapple Bottom Jeans were not always a competitive force—they started out as an avant-garde dance troupe in the district's underground fashion scene. The group’s founders, QoB and TMM, became notorious for their eccentric yet oddly practical outfits made entirely out of apple skin. Yes, apple skin. These "Flapple Bottoms," as they called them, were more than just a clothing statement—they were an expression of rebellion against the conventional, against all norms of fashion. To this day, no one really understands why they chose apples, but one thing is certain: anyone who wears a pair of Flapple Bottoms becomes a master of the Flapple Dance, which somehow involves a lot of synchronized flipping and tumbling. As for the tributes representing District 3? They’ve all been rumored to carry secret apple-themed weapons, including apple-shaped grenades that explode with the intoxicating smell of cinnamon. It’s like a feast for the senses—and also a violent act.

District 5: The Three Flamigos

Not long ago, District 5 was just an ordinary district, until a man named Seraphz and his band of rebellious flamenco dancers, Ninja and Sayyonara, decided to give the district’s production of electric power a little “extra flare.” Seraphz famously declared, “Who says energy can’t be beautiful?” and transformed his team into flamenco-inspired energy technicians. The Three Flamigos were born—an elite group whose special skill is turning electricity into synchronized dancing energy. Their performances are so enchanting that they can power entire cities with nothing more than their high-kicks and spins. Despite their unassuming appearance—wearing neon pink costumes with flamingo feathers—they’ve trained in brutal combat. Legend says that the Flamigos once powered an entire district's defense grid by performing a single high-energy duet that made an entire building collapse. They may dance, but their hearts are made of pure power.

District 7: Diancie is Unbreakable

Notorious for its gemstone mining and a less-than-reliable reputation for environmental preservation, District 7’s tribute team Diancie is Unbreakable is led by the once-renowned jewel thief, A Fairy, and her best friend Rasche, a jewel-forger turned combat genius. It’s said that A Fairy stole the crown jewels of the Capitol during a daring heist, only to later accidentally fashion a gemstone that was so flawless, it rendered her completely indestructible. Diancie, as the legend goes, is not a creature, but a glistening, unbreakable jewel—and much like their namesake, this district's tributes are nearly impossible to shatter. They wear armor made from real diamonds and their skill with traps, bombs, and precision weaponry is unrivaled. They're unbreakable, yes—but they do have one weakness: the disastrous inability to ever remember where they left their keys.

District 8: Silicobra Kai

In District 8, the battle against fashion crimes is an art form. Silicobra Kai, led by Slip and Jack, came about when these two revolutionary tailors discovered a breed of snake that could turn into a living fabric. Silicobra, as they called it, is a snake-like creature with scales that can mimic any material—silk, leather, denim, you name it. Slip and Jack trained an entire dojo of fashion-forward warriors to battle their way into the world of combat. Their discipline involves sneaky moves like The Serpentine Silkswipe and The Cobra Neck Tuck, which are dangerously deceptive when combined with their signature silk-enhanced weapons. Their dojo’s motto: “Strike first, strike fast, and never let your opponent see your new jacket design.”

District 9: Black Ops Spidops

Black Ops Spidops is District 9’s finest team of elite combatants, though they weren’t always elite. They began as a group of teenagers—Lizzie, Petros, Accel, Killin'time, pak, and Eyan—who once spent their days sneaking around the woods playing Spy vs. Spy. It was during one of these games that they stumbled upon an experimental military operation involving Spidops—a spider Pokémon engineered for covert operations. Naturally, these teens befriended the spiders, giving them names and teaching them to infiltrate and sabotage. As their skills grew, they adopted the name Black Ops Spidops and took to setting traps, hacking communication networks, and silently eliminating any threat before it even had the chance to react. Their motto: "No noise, no trace, and definitely no spiders in your face."

District 10: Gilderoy Lokix

District 10’s champions, Jeza and Dunoks, bring a whole new level of chaos to the Games. Gilderoy Lokix—their legendary tribute—is a charismatic trickster who blends the art of Loki-esque deception with their unmatched skills in tactical warfare. Their district was once a quiet place, full of farming and agriculture—until Jeza and Dunoks discovered the existence of locusts that could be trained to mimic the sound of any bird, weapon, or mechanical sound. When the Capitol realized that these tricks could be used in combat, Gilderoy and their team infiltrated the world of the Games with an unpredictable level of precision. Now, the Games will see deception, clever traps, and a whole lot of locust-induced chaos.

The Reaping Begins

As the tributes gather for the Quarter Quell, remember this: each tribute is an embodiment of their district’s unique flair, their unbridled eccentricity, and their utter ridiculousness. These champions are ready to prove themselves, not just in combat, but in style, in innovation, and in the finest spectacle the Capitol has ever seen. This is no ordinary year. This is the Quarter Quell.

May the odds be ever in their favor.

Flapple Bottom Jeans (9) vs Diancie is Unbreakable (3)
SV UU: Mada v. Scalescale - Pretty great mu here, haven't seen scale sv in a while but hes a capable player and creative builder, i think mada will have too much for him here but the upset is on the cards
SV UU: Enzonana. v. yiyueweiming - I believe I played yiyue for uult last year, and he's definitely a solid player, but i think he faces an uphill battle this week
SV Dist: AlyssaVGC v. starbitstorm - I'm entirely unfamiliar with alyssa I cant lie, my faith in sbs didn't pay off last uufpl but i still believe
Ubers UU: Ewin v. Medeia - idk how seriously ewin is gonna take this tier but feels pretty heavily favoured here
SS UU: Fragments v. Caesarr - caesarr does have an experience advantage but idt that counts for much here. Fragments feels like someone with a good temperament for this tier
SM UU: Hacker v. Rasche - Hacker faces a kind of weird inversion of his uubd games this tour, where a lot of his opponents will have more data on him than he has on them, while he's now the one expected to farm the pool. Ultimately feel the result is likely the same
ORAS UU: Insou v. Hiro80223001 - feels like a bit of a flip but i like what i saw of insou more
BW UU: roxie v Dusk - not a fan of roxies teams here
DPP UU: AM v. Django - I literally flipped a coin LOL
ADV UU: ThatOneApple v. Oathkeeper - i feel apple is probably favoured but idk too much about oathkeeper so cpuld be wrong
GSC UU: evakiyama! v. DAWNBUSTER - there is a chance dawn takes trolling too far and loses here but i can't bold against him
RBY UU: magialice v. Shellnuts - another coinflip

Tributes: Tidal & RoyalReloaded

~~~
Blipbug City Battlegirls (5) vs Gilderoy Lokix (7)
SV UU: Tree69420 v. wuqianying - I'll probably bold against tree every week and be right most weeks
SV UU: RTM v. fyfyk - should be a fun game, bolding fyfyk based off experience in the tier
SV Dist: Mister McLovin v. naviii 1 - idk who naviii 1 is I'm ngl
Ubers UU: Dorron v. Imperial - p sure dorron went 0-6 last fpl, admittedly not in uubers, but doesn't inspire any confidence in me
SS UU: haxlolo v. Tempo di anguria - lolo is pretty strong here but tempo di anguria feels like another player who could thrive in ss, should be a good game but I'm going with my instincts
SM UU: IcyPenguin2 v. Clem - Ik both but ive not seen much of either of them play tbh. I'm p sure icypenguin was significantly more expensive so feels like a safer bold
ORAS UU: seth v. dunoks - i can't say I'm familiar with seth and dunoks is pretty solid here
BW UU: Baddy v. violet river - I feel like this game happened in uubd but they were teammates so it definitely didn't. I like both but i feel like baddy is less likely to self sabotage
DPP UU: avarice v. Drud - both are great but idk how much interest drud has in building this tier
ADV UU: gulch v. Hydronics - hydronics has been playing great mons and i expect that to continue
GSC UU: IamLowTier v. leoperi - coinflipped
RBY UU: Maris Bonibell v. stunner047 - i teamed with stunner at some point and hes nb but maris should be favoured
Tributes: TBIC106 & THE_CHUNGLER
The Three Flamigos (6) vs (6) Azelf on the Shelf
SV UU: hex v. Goro Yagami - goroat
SV UU: sufys v. sealoo - sufys is the luckiest guy I've ever known
SV Dist: Monai v. Jojen - i think jojen did ok last fpl but monai should be stronger
Ubers UU: Skyiew v. Finchely - i think skyiew is a better clicker but im ngl i barely know who they are so can't be sure
SS UU: seraphz v. vivalospride - the ss fans havent been this excited since adaam signed up for uupl. Let me know if you want any tests viv
SM UU: Ampha v. Colin - think ampha put up a solid record here last year, however colin is sheist
ORAS UU: feen v. Betathunder - idt i know who feens opponent is here, and ik feen likes this tier
BW UU: Estarossa v. justdrew - i believe in you drew
DPP UU: Hubriz v. Heysup - i will bold heysup every week
ADV UU: A Hero's Destiny v. BlackKnight_Gawain - more familiar with bkg
GSC UU: ExguardiaN v. Gallinova - coinflipped
RBY UU: NotVeryCake v. Theycallmephil - ive seen cake win in this tier a lot
Tributes: Ninja & Nashrock
Idk if im meant to be bolding tributes or not but I'm choosing not to.
Oh no! Slacker Jackerz have invaded the arena!!!
Our hero tribute NDK has been stung! Killintime has now entered the arena as a new tribute, to fight with Zcarlett !
But that's not all - the Slacker Jackerz have invaded some of the districts as well!! In order to protect your District, 3 players/managers/shadow managers/cheerleaders from your District must defeat an opposing Bee pokemon on the ladder!
Any PS ladder will do, whether it's UU, NU, Nat Dex, Rands, RBY, doesn't matter, as long as there's a ladder. Simply go find a Bee pokemon somewhere and KO it to qualify for a Tribute point! Remember - 3 people must slay a Bee for this to count for your district, but literally anyone can do it whether they are a player or bystander. Obvious Bee pokemon are Beedrill, Vespiquen, and Combee (and Ribombee sure). If you defeat something that's not one of these but you strongly believe should qualify as a Bee pokemon, then it can be accepted so long as you write a credible 3 paragraph essay on why it's a Bee.
Please, let's get the Slacker Jackerz out of our youth's backyards!
To fight the Slacker Jackerz that were invading our beloved district, i, as a simple bystander, felt that i couldnt just back down. And so, i remembered a bee i had seen many moons ago, and tried my luck to kill it. Well, that was Ribombee, in the Ubers ladder, a pokemon who surely would be considered a bee. You cant believe my shock when i realised it actually wasnt a qualified bee. Outraged, i chose to write three paragraphs explaining why Ribombee should be seen as a legitimate bee, in no less of a way than combee or beedrill.
Starting with the most obvious reason why, we have to look no further than its name. Ribombee shares a string of three characters with a total of other 3 pokemon: bee, being those pokemon beedrill, combee and orbeetle. Orbeetle is clearly a beetle, so that one can be disregarded. However, the other 2 include it to point to their beeness and, if we isolate the 2 sections of the "ribombee" name, we get "ribom" and "bee", clearly supposed to be the words ribbon and bee mashed together, which seems to be corroborared by bulbapedia ("Ribombee may be a combination of ribbon, Bombyliidae (family of bee flies), and bee. It may also involve rimbombante (Spanish word for flamboyant) or bombinate (to buzz; hum)").
A now new problem might surface: the undeniable connection this pokemon has with the subspecies of fly known as "bee fly". However, that doesnt discount our favourite webber as a bee. As its well known, most pokemon designs, especially nowadays, dont draw inspiration from a single source, but rather multiple concepts mashed together. While ribombee is the "bee fly" pokemon, its also important to note its very likely also inspired by the bumblebee, as its wing proportions are closer and it seems to be more segmented than a bee fly (as its scarf separates the segmented body, very characteristic in bees but not pronounced in flies).
Now, i would like to conclude by looking at ribombee's toolkit. There, we might find the answer we are looking for. By looking at its abilities, the connection to a bumblebee is even more evident, as its the only fully evolved pokemon in the game to have the ability "honey gather", with the only other pokemon in the game who has it being combee, a fellow bee pokemon (refer to the image posted above by jawabarat as an academic reference that proves that bees are, indeed, related to honey gathering, as you can see clearly the bees with pollen in the process in said image). But, as a languages student, i couldnt help but notice another hint gamefreak left us: the move quiver dance. Bees, in real life, have created their own means of comunication, which, relevantly, is based in motion, that being dance. The way bees signal anything to each other is by dancing, and gamefreak chose to give this bee pokemon a dance move to reflect that. Another move that can help us reach this conclusion would be pollen puff. Only a pokemon who either has some kind of pollen in himself or gathers pollen, like a bee or a butterfly, should have access to this move. Flies are not, by nature, related to pollen, as they are mostly carnivorous insects. Therefore, here you have it, definitive proof that ribombee is, in fact, a bee, and should be considered one for the great extermination squad. Go Battlegirls! (Just to be clear, this is on behalf of the Battlegirls)
