v1.6 Dragonitemare: RED Edition

Dragonitemare
Red Edition
v1.6 WIP. Threatlist, additional pictures, and more coming soon.
Yep, it's back. My all-time most successful team is now being reborn in a brand new version. This version takes a shot at using drought successfully with my best buddies Dragonite and Mew. While similar to an old sun team I made many months ago, the Dragonitemare twist I feel will make this a lot better.

Please note: I have not played Pokemon competitively in several months. This team is not adjusted to the BW2 metagame.

Dragonite (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 248 HP / 248 SAtk / 12 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Thunder Wave
- Roost

The pokemon this team is named after, and obviously the oldest mainstay on it. I've always liked Dragonite, and it found a semi-permanent part of my Black/White team ever since I discovered Multiscale. Flamethrower allows boost abuse from the sun and hits most things pretty dang hard. Due to the lack of heavy walls and support, I opted for the Tank version of Dragonite, which Thunder Wave and Roost accomplish very well. Draco Meteor is used as the last-resort wallbreaking move to get rid of all the things that try to switch into Dragonite. The only issue is being Dead-stopped by Heatran, but I can't really avoid that with this set.
Considerations: Something to kill Heatran instead of Draco Meteor.

ninetales.png

Ninetales (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 136 HP / 252 SAtk / 120 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Sunny Day
- Flamethrower
- SolarBeam
- Toxic

You really don't get much of a choice on who you can use for a Sun team, do you? Because I wanted to make sure my weather stays up, I chose the anti-Politoed and Tyranitar set which is this. It's worked decently, but its Ninetales so what are you going to do? Sunny Day is there mostly to negate other weather in emergencies and to ensure Sawsbuck gets his much-needed boost. Because of Sunny Day, Solarbeam becomes much more reliable for Ninetales to use.

Sawsbuck-Winter (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 110 HP/ 252 Atk / 148 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Horn Leech
- Nature Power
- Swords Dance

My go-to sweeper for any sun team. After my first sun team, I began loving Sawsbuck from its amazing speed and attack. STAB Return hits many pokemon hard for neutral damage, while Nature Power(Earthquake) and Horn Leech combines as a killer for both Heatran and to outlive many walls, such as Blissey. Swords Dance is the icing on the cake, needing good prediction to work, but Sawsbuck doesn't often need it due to its revenge killing ability.

little-pink-mew.jpg

Mew @ Leftovers
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 108 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Softboiled
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt

This Pokemon....is a monster. If I had one word to describe this Mew, it would be amazing. A Veteran from my old teams, this Mew has been in most my recent teams. Softboiled, Taunt, and Will-O-Wisp all work together to make Mew the best stallbreaker in the game. Ice Beam is there over Psychic in order to take care of the evils of Dragonite, Gliscor, and more. It's never a let down, and I don't think it ever will. Burns allow for Mew to absorb any physical attack somebody throws at him, and a surprisingly large ammount of special attacks.

image21.jpg

Heatran (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Another veteran, Heatran's goal is to set up Stealth Rock for the team and counter other Heatran. Another one of its main goals is to to abuse sun even further with its STAB Fire Blast. Hidden Power Ice allows for Heatran to function as an anti-Outrage Pokemon. Earth Power takes out other Heatran easily while Air Balloon allows me to switch in on a deadly ground-type move.

donphan_chibi_by_redpawfigurines-d38l6s6.jpg

Donphan @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
-Earthquake
-Ice Shard
-Head Smash
-Rapid Spin

Suggested to me by Jirachi, it has failed to disappoint. Ice Shard allows for priority and revenge killing of various threats, such as Dragonite or Gliscor. Head Smash and Earthquake allow for two very strong rock/ground moves which provide great coverage. The set is rounded out by Rapid Spin, which is the main purpose of Donphan. It also provides the much-needed rock resist to the team.
Last Glance/Final Thoughts:

Overall, this team lives up to the quality I set with the original Dragonitemare quite well. While issues are large, I feel that this team might even be able to surpass the original. Leave comments and suggestions please, I'm always open to suggestion!

Hi

This is a cool team, I really like your Dragonite moveset, however you might have some real problems with a couple of threats. You have no Rock resist at all, which means that threats such as Choice Band Terrakion and Choice Band Tyranitar can come in and beat something on your team with their incredibly strong Stone Edge since you have 3 Pokemon weak to Rock, and your other members aren't bulky enough to take two Choice Band boosted ones if slower. Since you have no Rapid Spinner, that means that your team will lose large amount of HP from all kind of hazards, especially Stealth Rock, threrefore you might lose to hazard stacking teams quite often, with 3 of your pokemon litterally dying to teams who carry both Stealth Rock and Spikes. This is a pretty huge weakness since hazards dominate the current metagame. Some change that would GREATLY improve this team is dropping Victini for Donphan. Donphan does pretty much everything your team needs at the moment in my eyes: a Rock type resist, a reliable Rapid Spinner. Mew breaks through Stall teams fairly easily anyway with the infamous Taunt WoW set so I don't know why you need Victini to "wallbreak", and even then, if you need a revenge killer, Sawsbuck can do it. Donphan is just so helpful for this team.

I'd also recommend using Hidden Power Ice on Heatran, as it appears to be your best check to Outraging Dragons such as Dragonite and Salamence, you can't really take them down unless they have taken major damage at the moment. Hidden Power Ice takes them down in one hit most of the time which is certainly helpful in not getting swept. Hidden Power Grass won't help you that much anyway as Gastrodon doesn't seem to be the team's biggest problem.

That's all I got for now, here's the set you should use:
232.gif

Donphan @ Leftovers
Sturdy
Impish
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
~Earthquake
~Ice Shard
~Head Smash
~Rapid Spin

Good luck!

To be honest, Victini was never a very good choice to begin with. Donphan sounds logical, and I see your point on Heatran. Changed. Thanks for the feedback!
