With access to Chlorophyll, and a newly added toy in Weather Ball, Venusaur is the best Sun sweeper in the tier. Growth is used to boost Venusaur's Special Attack, enabling it to potentially sweep. Note that Growth's ability to boost Venusaur's Special Attack by two only works in the Sun, which is important to keep in mind when you're facing other weather teams. Giga Drain is a form of STAB that hits decently hard, and acts as pseudo recovery against bulky Pokemon such as Tyranitar and Blissey. Weather Ball is a fantastic coverage option for Venusaur, with base 100 power which is further boosted by Drought, Venusaur is able to shred through Steel types such as Aegislash, Skarmory, and Corviknight, who would otherwise completely wall Venusaur. Sludge Bomb is another form of STAB that allows Venusaur to blast through Clefable and Togekiss, along with also offering a 30% chance to Poison the target. Earth Power however is an option, which can OHKO Toxapex at +2, while also having coverage on Steel-types such as Aegislash and Jirachi outside of sunny weather. A Life Orb is the best item for Venusaur, as the extra power is needed to secure certain OHKOs and 2HKOs, and the recoil from Life Orb can be somewhat negated with the healing effects of Giga Drain. Modest is the preferred nature, as Venusaur in the sun outspeeds the entire un-boosted metagame already.

Venusaur is only viable on Sun based teams. As such, Torkoal is mandatory, and can provide both Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin support. Powerful Sun wallbreakers such as Charizard and Darmanitan work excellently in conjunction with Venusaur, as they're able to punch holes in the opposing team for Venusaur to clean up later. If Drought isn't active, Venusaur can sometimes struggle to muscle through certain Pokemon like Tyranitar and Aegislash. As such, Urshifu can prey on these Pokemon, and provide momentum in the form of U-turn, making it a great partner. Dragon-types are infamously known to cause Sun teams trouble, so a Fairy-type such as Hatterene or Togekiss can make for good partners. Lastly, entry hazard control is vital for Sun teams and Venusaur to succeed. The previously aforementioned Hatterene can bounce back entry hazards, while Excadrill can provide Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin, and can also check Tyranitar and Aegislash.
