Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Weather Ball
A veteran of Sun teams ever since Hidden Abilities were introduced, this flower frog once again fertilizes the fields of OU with its fainted foes. Venusaur is at essentially at base 160 speed when Chlorophyll is active. Growth boosts both Attack and Special Attack sharply under Sunny conditions, which makes it Nasty Plot and Swords Dance all in one move. Giga Drain gives it a strong form of recovery when set up with a Growth, which forces many Pokemon to either outdamage Venusaur's healing or be able to take a hit, which is not easy with its coverage. Otherwise Venusaur will replenish its health bar. Weather ball provides important Fire Type coverage against Steel Types like Gholdengo and Kingambit. It also has crazy damage numbers such as a OHKO on Zamazenta after Growth. Tough matchups for this Venusaur set include the usual special walls such as Clodsire, Blissey, Skeledirge, and Slowbro-Galar. Iron Moth and Ceruledge are other potential checks due to their typing. Since Venusaur's stats are too low without Sun, a Drought user like Torkoal or Ninetales are practically mandatory teammates. This further encourages bringing Protosynthesis users such as Great Tusk, Raging Bolt, and Walking Wake.
