Versatile Tinker Tran Team

This is my second RMT. I apologize for it being posted so soon after the first and it won’t happen again (the other thread is NOT active). This team is my most effective non-weather team so far and I would appreciate any suggestions on improving it. It includes a Tinker Bell Celebi and Heatran which is the origin of its name; a variation of Cele-Tran. I would not be against replacing anything at all on this team.

Team building process:
Spr_5b_251_s.png

I had always liked Celebi but I never built a team with one so I decided to model this team around the Tinker Bell set.

Spr_5b_485_s.png

Next I decided that including a Ferrothorn would set up hazards and provide good synergy. To cover the weakness to fire, I also added Heatran.

I then added Rotom – W as a choice scarfer and Tyranitar as a pursuit user to volt switch into.

To deal with fighting type pokemon I chose a bulky dragon dancing Gyarados as my sixth pokemon.
Spr_5b_251_s.png

After some testing I found that my team was not working out at all. I tried tweaking the pokemon and some of the sets but I could not get the team to work correctly. Therefore I went back to the drawing board with just Celebi.

Spr_5b_385.png

In order to maximize the potential of the paralysis that the Tinkerbell set focusses on, I chose Jirachi with its iron head/serene grace combo.

Looking back on my original team, I realized that the Heatran-Ferrothorn-Celebi combination worked well. So, I brought Heatran and Ferrothorn back onto the team.

I looked around and found that Jellicent would make a good addition to my team as a spin blocker, a bulky water, and a fighting counter.

In order to cover this team’s weakness to the extraordinarily popular Rotom-W I added Latios as my final member.

Final Team:
anime251.jpg

Celebi @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 200 HP / 240 SAtk / 68 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunder Wave
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover
The team’s main focus; Celebi is supposed to be used in a hit a run manner, coming in and paralyzing threats as they switch in, dishing out Leaf Storm, and Recovering in between. I gave it hidden power fire in order to take care of Ferrothorn and Scizor. It is given 68 Speed Evs to outspeed Jolly Scizor

Tanabata_08.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SDef / 32 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Wish
- U-turn
Jirachi makes a great partner to Celebi as it can set up paralysis and abuse flinching. U-turn is meant help Jirachi transfer Wish to teammates as Jirachi will usually move slowly. Plus people have varying reactions when they see wish and they know that you have a pokemon with low HP.

598Ferrothorn.png

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Power Whip
Ferrothorn takes hits and sets up spikes. TIt has great synergy with Celebi and usually draws out the fire types which I then focus on defeating thanks to the help of Heatran. I choose power whip over gyro ball primarily due to this team’s emphasis on paralysis.

485Heatran.png

Heatran (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Stealth Rock
Heatran takes advantage of the paralysis Celebi and Jirachi inflict. Thanks to speed reduction of the foes Heatran has an easier time sweeping. It is an absorber of fire attacks (highly important) and is a great switch in on earthquake at the beginning of the game. The Heatran uses Hidden Power Ice to destroy dragons and it sets ups stealth rocks usually as the opponent’s pokemon switches.

jellicent.jpg

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Taunt
Jellicent is an amazing asset with its ability to stop physical sweepers, Chanseys and Blisseys in their tracks. It can take any water type attack and is amazingly useful against rain dance teams. It has the ability to prevent set up, recover HP, and burn the opponent; these are the perfect attributes in a staller.

381Latios.png

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover
Latios is meant to be a fast sweeper who can pick up the slack of the rest of the team. He is also supposed to counter Rotom – W who could be a huge problem for the rest of the team. Thanks to the paralysis provided by Celebi and Jirachi, Latios has little problem out speeding choice scarfers and it has the ability to change which move it uses at will.

Rain Teams –
Against rain teams, I use Celebi, Ferrothorn and Jellicent to control the battle. Celibi and Ferrothorn both use their stab grass attacks while Jellicent stalls opponents out with water absorb. The main issue is in beating hurricane users such as Dragonite. I usually try to paralyze them with the thunder wave as the switch in and then switch out into Jirachi and Latios. My team actually gains protection under the rain because fire type attacks are rarely used.

Sandstorm Teams –
In the sandstorm, Jirachi, Ferrothorn, and Heatran don’t take damage. Jirachi can take a hit from any variant of Tyranitar and hit it back with an iron head while passing off wish to teammates. Ferrothorn is able to set up its entry hazards. Both Ferrothorn and Celebi, to an extent, can fire off stab Grass attacks and destroy many threats that switch in. Heatran is able to come in on its air balloon (resisting Earthquake) and fire off hidden power ice against Gliscor and Landorus, use earth power against Tyranitar and some switch ins and use fire type attacks to deal with Scizor and other steel types. Jellicent gets used in this situation to take hit, burn the opponent, and stalling them out with recover.

Sun Teams –
Heatran is a monster against sun teams, he can switch in against fire attacks (and earthquake when they try to predict him) and then use a STAB, Sunny day boosted, and flash fire boosted Fire Blast ripping anything that switches in (except flash fire) to shreds. Jellicent is able to taunt opponents and take hits. It is especially useful against scarfed Darmanitan and Infernape when they use close combat. Celebi is able to come in and force switch ins paralyzing them as they come in. Then as a follow up, Celebi can then take advantage of its boosted hidden power fire.

Stall Teams –
Against a stall team, my team can fair very well. Thanks to both Heatran and Ferrothorn I can set up spikes and stealth rocks. Heatran, Ferrothorn, Jirachi, and Latios are all immune to toxic spikes and Celebi has natural cure at its disposal. Jirachi and Celebi can both set up paralysis which will allow Jirachi to abuse a paraflinch combo. With the opponent’s pokemon being slow and paralyzed, Jellicent will be to taunt the pokemon and prevent set up and phasing moves. my team has 3 very powerful Special attackers and one powerful physical attacker.

Dual Screens Team –
While fighting a dual screen team my Celebi and Jirachi combo can abuse the para flinch combo and are both powerful attackers. Ferrothorn can leech seed opponents and set up while waiting out the dual screens and Jellicent also can stall out the screens. In addition, Jellicent can taunt dual screen users.

Multi-Dragon (4drag2mag) team –
Fighting a Multi dragon team would be difficult however it is doable with this team. Heatran, Latios, and Jellicent can each take down fire type pokemon while Celebi, Jellicent and Latios can beat fighting types. Against these teams Celebi and Jirachi will try to paralyze the dragons so that Heatran can sweep with a hidden power ice. Also, if Latios is faster than the oponents dragons, it can OHKO many of them with Draco Meteor. When the fire fire and fighting pokemon are defeated Ferrothorn is able to stall them out

Baton Pass –
Baton pass teams are even more difficult to beat. Against these teams I try to set up stealth rocks and spikes to hurt them along the way. Neutralizing Espeon is difficult. My best strategy is using Jirachi to set paralysis with body slam and paraflinch with iron head. Latios is a key player when it fires off one attack after another.

Trick Room –
Under trick room I can use both Jellicent and Ferrothorn with this speed reversal and stall out the trick room. The rest of my team will be able fire off powerful attacks after taking a hit. IN addition, Latios, Celebi, and Jirachi also have access to recovery and will be able to stall out trick room as well.

I would really appreciate any criticisms and suggestions to make this team better. I apologize for the lack of sprites on the threat list. I will put the importable text at the bottom if anyone wants to test the team out.

Double Dance Terrakion can be dangerous, setting up on Ferrothorn or Heatran and really threatening your team. After a Swords Dance, everything on your team is OHKOed by either a +2 Life Orb Close Combat or Stone Edge. Latios is your only way of beating Swords Dance Terrakion, being able to outspeed and Surf or Draco Meteor, but they only do 72% and 79% maximum in the sand respectively, meaning Terrakion can tank one hit and OHKO right back with Stone Edge.
SubSD Landorus is also threatening, setting up a Sub on Celebi or Jirachi. After that, nothing can take two hits from Landorus or a hit after Swords Dance. +2 Earthquake in the sand OHKOes Ferrothorn, Jellicent and Jirachi, while Heatran and Celebi both fall to +2 Stone Edge. Latios is able to outspeed and Surf Landorus, but Stone Edge in the sand KOes after Stealth Rock and Life Orb damage, leaving you open to be swept by a +2 Landorus.
Swords Dance Lucario can set up on Ferrothorn or Heatran and sweep your team after. Latios is the only one who can outspeed and falls to ExtremeSpeed, while the rest of your team falls to either a +2 Close Combat or a +2 Crunch. Jellicent and Celebi are KOed by Crunch, while Jirachi falls to Close Combat.

To fix these problems, I recommend that you try a Slowbro over Jellicent. While Jellicent is great and blocks spin, Slowbro seems better on this team. Also, the only common Rapid Spinner, Starmie, is walled and set up on by Ferrothorn. Slowbro beats the aforementioned threats with its great bulk, and is able to 2HKO all of them. Slowbro also is able to Thunder Wave a lot of threats, adding to your strategy. The exact set is:

080-a.png
Slowbro @ Leftovers | Regenerator
Bold | 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Scald / Psychic / Thunder Wave / Slack Off

Good luck!

Hi there, nice Weatherless Team.
Tomahawk already covered all imo, so I will add only small nitpicks
By losing Jellicent you will have some problem with opposing Volcarona, mostly hp ground version are VERY dangerous for you, bug buzz destroy the baloon, then hp ground smash away Heatran.
Why dn't you try roar> Earth Power?
It doesn't help you only with Volcaorna, of course, seeing the fact that you use both SR and Spikes as your hazards you might want a phazer that can abuse them, Heatran also help you against Baton Pass team with a ''well timed roar'' (watch out from Espeon)
The coins are that now Heatran can't beat opposing Heatrans but for me, this isn't a problem, you still have Latios and Slowbro to stop him.
Also, concerning the fact that Starmie is the most used spinner, you MIGHT consider Rocky Helmet>Leftovers, while it doesn't truly stop Starmie for spinning it halves the opportunity for him to do so, orbmie for example will have a VERY short life.
Hope it helped, good luck.

Thanks a lot for the Slowbro idea and the change in move set for Heatran. Slowbro makes the team more efficient and having a phazer is extremely useful. As I have use my team more, I realize that I have a weakness towards Sunny Day teams (3 pokemon weak to fire). I would appreciate any suggestions and I will update my team on this thread and threat list when I get a chance.

Hello, Bedlington. If you feel that Sun teams are problematic then why not change Heatran's set to the popular specially defensive variant? It's an absolute menace to these teams as it can wall a large portion of their commonly seen members which includes both of the weather's deadliest sweepers, Venusaur and Volcarona. From there it can dispatch a large portion of the team using its Fire-type move of choice and Roar accordingly while just having to avoid Dugtrio who can easily be played around. Of course, you could always use a Shed Shell if you don't feel like having the pressure of predicting around that important switch, but Leftovers is usually the better choice here. The set is located below. Good team, good luck, and I hope this helps you out.

Heatran @ Leftovers l Flash Fire
Nature: Calm (+SDef, -Atk)
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SDef / 8 Spd
- Flamethrower
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Protect / Earth Power
