VGC [VGC 2015] Chilling Under The Sun! (MegaZard Y Sun Team)

Hi everybody! Today I'm here to show you my new team, hoping you rate it and help me to improve it!

As you can read from the title, it's a Sun Team based on Mega Charizard Y.

Ok! Lets start talking about the pokemon!

P.S. Sorry for my bad English, please try to ignore all my terrible mistake.

Charizard (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 76 SpA / 12 SpD / 164 Spe
Modest Nature
- Protect
- Heat Wave
- SolarBeam
- Overheat

Obviously he is the Sun Setter and has a typical vgc set witch some choice of my own. I decided to run a Modest nature to have more damaga output; It let me to do lot of damage with Solar Beam to pokemon like 252 HP Rotom-W or 4 HP Tyranitar.
As forth move I decided to use Overheatm instead of some other moves like Dragon Pulse or Ancient Power, because it can be a decisive moves that can do huge damage.
I'm using Blaze as ability to prevent enemies Pokemon with Trace ability to copy Solar Power.

Aegislash (M) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 100 SpA / 156 SpD
Quiet Nature
- King's Shield
- Wide Guard
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon

Aegislash's Standard Set. Wide Guard to protect himself and the ally from the spread moves that are usually seen in VGC ((Rock Slide, Heat Wave, Earthquake, Hypervoice) and at the same time it can protect from allied's Earthquakes.
The EVs' Spread is studied to help her survive super effective moves, activating Weakness Policy.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 156 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 138-164 (82.6 - 98.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash

and this is the last member of the team. I decided to use him thanks to the nice synergy he have with Charizard: He can spam Earthquake without worrying to hit the team mate and he can finish off the enemy with Ice Shard. Ice Shard is also for ignoring the low speed of Mamo and brutally hit pokemon like Mega Salamance.
I decided to give him Life Orb so he can have a bigger damage output.

terrakion.gif

Terrakion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Double Kick
- Close Combat
- Rock Slide

A pretty standard set for Terrakion in Double. As Item I've chosen the Lum Berry to prevent some common Status Condition, but especially Burns that damage Terrakion's attack in a irreparable way. Rock Slide and Close Combat are the main STAB moves.
I decided to use Double Kick, despite being more occasional then Quick Guard, because I've noticed most of the pokemon annoyed my the most was frail Focus Sash user like Smeargle or Weavile.

fc-landrus.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Superpower
- U-turn

Another great Charizard's Teammate!
With Intimidate he helps him to remain longer on the field and together they can spam Heat Wave and Earthquake beating the majority of the metagame.
With Superpower he strongly hit standard MegaKang and sometimes he OHKO. Rock Slide is to hit Genies and Charizard.
U-Turn is a great way to switch e continue the Intimidate's spamming!

252+ Atk Landorus-T Superpower vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 164-194 (90.6 - 107.1%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

irowhimsicott.gif

Whimsicott (F) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 220 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Encore
- Tailwind
- Taunt
- Beat Up

As my last pokemon I've chosen Whimsicott. She can give my Speed Control thanks to Tailwind and can support the team Taunting annoying enemies. Encore is for blocking enemies on a single move makeing them useless.
Beat Up is for having an attacking moves but it create also a nice combe with Terrakion Justified.
The evs Spread and the Nature are studied to permit Whimiscott to outspeed 252 Spe Timid Thundorus.

So this is my team

Hey man pretty cool team I just have a few things to say.

First off, you need better/longer descriptions on your sets so I can rate your team better and so it won't get locked.

A bulkier Zard would be optimal so you can take non-STAB Rock Slides and to take advantage of Intimidate, plus you really dont need that much SAtk to get important KOes.

Here's a better spread for you:
252 HP / 4 Def / 76 SpA / 12 SpD / 164 Spe

This lives most STAB Thunderbolts in the metagame and non STAB Rock Slides after Intimidate while still outspeeding threats like Bisharp and bulky variants of Thundurus

SolarBeam isnt a great option on Venusaur because it's not reliable outside of Sun and opposing weather is very common. Try Leaf Storm instead.

Finally Clefairy is honestly kind of gimmicky and your team doesn't gain a lot from redirection. If you want a bulky supporter I highly recommend Cresselia instead, it's a lot more reliable, checks/walls more of the metagame, can carry Sitrus Berry, also uses Helping Hand and can provide speed control with Icy Wind to help out your slower members like Scrafty and Mamoswine.

Hi Darkerones! Thank you for all the advice!

I'm absolutely grateful for the Charizard spread! I was searching for one of them.

Sorry if my description aren't enaugh long but I'm not English and sometimes I don't know how to properly express my idea :(

I prefer to keep SolarBeam on Venusaur. I find it more usefull being this a sun team. If another weather enter the wild I will try to put the Sun again or I will it with Sludge Bomb.

I don't like using Cresselia because it doesn't adapt well with my playstyle... And I was thinking to change my Scrafty with a faster Terrakion ^^
But I will think about it... because even if it doesn't go well with my playstyle it's a really good supportive pokemon.

Couple notes:

1) Wow, stealin' my Zard Y spread which was stolen by Darkerones. Just kidding, you can use it :]

2) You want Blaze over Solar Power on your Charizard because otherwise Pokemon with Trace (ex. Gardevoir, Porygon2, etc) will Trace it and then will get a power boost in the sun when you mega evolve.

3) For Aegislash, I recommend running 252 HP / 100 Sp. Atk / 156 Sp Def. This will allow you to survive Modest 252 Sp. Atk Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse 100% of the time and it will also come in handy to survive non STAB Fire coverage moves in the Sun. (Survives Modest 252 Fire Blast from Special Mega Salamence for example).

4) Chlorophyll Venusaur isn't required on a Charizard Y VGC team necessarily because it relies heavily on Sun to be an offensive presence and it gets walled by Heatran unless you wanna run Hidden Power Ground or Earthquake, which isn't worth it obviously. You could consider running another Pokemon that can provide some useful overall utility for the team or another offensive Pokemon to deal with some threats to the team.

5) Clefairy isn't that great on this team because redirection doesn't benefit the overall team that much and you already have Wide Guard Aegislash to protect the team from spread moves which are the main threats. I would consider another Pokemon in this slot to fulfill additional roles for the team. You could use Clefable for a Mega Salamence team, but it's not great on a Charizard Y VGC team.

6) Consider Double Kick on Terrakion over Quick Guard so it gives you a sure way to beat Focus Sash Bisharp and Focus Sash Smeargle. Charizard Y + Terrakion will form your anti-Khan artist lead. Terrakion can Double Kick Smeargle (assuming its Sash) while Charizard Y can Overheat Kangaskhan for the KO.

7) Mamoswine is pretty good on this team, but I would consider getting some Flying or Levitate Pokemon to let Mamoswine use Earthquake more often.

So, there are some team members that I suggest you consider:

- Landorus-T. Intimidate is very good to help a bulky Charizard Y stay on the field longer and continuously fire off attacks. Landorus-T + Charizard Y have almost perfect coverage on the metagame and can freely spam Earthquake and Heat Wave to beat most things.

- Thundurus. Another great utility Pokemon to help you against Mega Salamence teams and Rain teams as well to cripple Swift Swimmers with Thunder Wave. Also helps against Trick Room with that Prankster Taunt. Overall it's a great Pokemon, but have some additional Rock resistances.

- Whimsicott. Another Prankster Pokemon that can really cause disruption. Similar to Thundurus, but provides Tailwind support (which really really helps Charizard Y do a lot of work). Could also run Beat Up + Justified Terrakion to power it up along with Fake Tears to nerf an opposing Pokemon's Special Defense for Charizard Y to pick it off.

I know this may be a lot to take in, but that's what I have to say about your team. Overall pretty decent, but these are my suggestions to make it better :]

For Whimsicott, you could consider Fake Tears, Encore, or Beat Up in one of those slots. I think Beat Up is a fun combo to try out and you can replace Moonblast with that. Encore is really really powerful and I think that should be used over Protect because you can just absolutely devastate teams by Encoring opposing Pokemon into Protect or Fake Out for example.
