VGC VGC 2015 - Trick Room - Mega Mawile - RMT

Hello Smogon, I am new to VGC, this is my first year at competitive Pokemon. When playing low ladder on VGC 2015, I noticed it was very focused on speed control such as Icy Wind and TWave, etc, etc.. I thought the best way to use this to my advantage was to create a Trick Room team. I wanted to use Pokemon I could breed and easily obtain in Y and AS, so no Cresselia or Heatran.

Note: I am not a very experienced player, so any improvements are appreciated.

My first thought was to combine Slowking's special defensive bulk and Mega Mawile with intimidate support to prevent physical attackers stopping Slowking putting Trick Room up.

Mawile @ Mawilite

Ability: Intimidate

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD

Adamant Nature

  • Play Rough

  • Iron Head

  • Sucker Punch

  • Protect
I am pretty sure this is a standard set for Mawile. Play Rough and Iron Head for Stab, Sucker Punch for priority when trick room is not up, and protect for general use.

Slowking @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Oblivious

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD

Quiet Nature

IVs: 0 Spe

  • Fire Blast

  • Psyshock

  • Scald

  • Trick Room
Slowking is here to be my first TR setter, with good STAB and coverage moves. Weakness Policy because Slowking is a special tank, and with Intimidate Support, can take a few good Super-Effective hits. Scald and Psyshocks are good STAB attacks that hit Physical and Special walls, and Fire Blast is for the Scizors and the Ferrothorns.

At this point I wanted another setter that could also act as an offensive presence, and I absolutely love Porygon2.

Porygon2 @ Eviolite

Ability: Trace

EVs: 252 HP / 216 SpA / 40 SpD

Modest Nature

IVs: 0 Spe

  • Ice Beam

  • Trick Room

  • Thunderbolt

  • Recover
I didn't really have a Pokemon that could heal up, stay on the field and set up TR when required, so PoryGon2 with Eviolite was perfect for that role. Trick Room to take advantage of his low speed, Thunderbolt and Ice Beam for the famous Bolt-Beam combo, and also to hit Dragon/Flying types, Mega Sceptile, and Garchomp hard. Recover to stay for longer and to take advantage of its bulk.

I didn't really have anyone to divert the attacks away from my setters at this point, so I stole an Amoongus from my Rain Dance team.

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet

Ability: Effect Spore

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA

Modest Nature

  • Spore

  • Rage Powder

  • Giga Drain

  • Protect
Amoongus is one of the best support Pokemon, and can take advantage of trickroom due to its horrific speed. Rage Powder is so my setters can get up Trick Room, and to allow Mawile to cause havoc. Protect is a staple, but could be replaced by Sludge Bomb. Giga Drain is there because it allows Amoongus to stay there for longer and I have no Grass type attacks on my team.

From here I needed another sweeper to stop Cressilila and Heatran spam on showdown, and Golurk could hit both of them really hard.

Golurk @ Hard Stone

Ability: No Guard

EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD

Adamant Nature

  • Dynamic Punch

  • Earthquake

  • Rock Slide

  • Protect/Fling
No Guard Golurk is sooo good with Dynamic Punch and Rock Slide boosted by hard stone. Earthquake is there for a Stab Spread move, and I had Fling to get an 80 power dark type move because of hard stone, but I have replaced it with protect.

I tried a few Pokemon in my final slot, such as Escavilier, but currently I have Chandelure, with Trick Room, Fire blast, WoW and Protect, but I could do with a flying Pokemon or a Poke with Wide Guard that has WoW support, but can also deal large amounts of damage. All suggestions are appreciated.

Replays:

(I'll post more)

Thanks for reading, please be gentle because this is my first VGC team.

Notes:

I am only playing on Showdown, but planning to convert it eventually.

If anyone has any Trick Room based Breedjects, they'd find a good home with me. :p

TALONFLAME DUDE! Despite it's fairly good speed stat Talonflame still works very well in trick room since Priority is still a thing, so your brave bird will still be going off faster than most other things. If you run it uninvested with a Brave(?) nature you'll still be in a decent speed tier since any non-TR team is just gonna be focused on pure speed 90% of the time anyway. But down to the meat and potatos, Talonflame is known for it's very good damage output and it runs Will-O-Wisp fairly commonly (unless it's an all-out attacker) and although it doesn't get Wide-Guard it does get access to Quick Guard which could help against opposing priority abusers trying to work around your TR :) Hope I helped in some way!

EDIT: Talonflame is slower than fully invested 100 Base Speed Pokemon if it has a negative nature. I checked it with 31 IVs in speed to so it doesn't matter too much if it's a pain to breed one with 0 ;)
