Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 188 SpA / 4 SpD / 60 Spe
Modest Nature

- Hydro Cannon
- Blizzard
- Yawn
- Protect

Blastoise has slowly risen in usage as one of VGC's best bulky Water-types. It flooded the standings during the Players Cup IV regional qualifiers, where it had six top cut appearances. This is largely thanks to Blastoise's G-Max Cannonade based off of Hydro Cannon for maximum damage output, a powerful attack that wears down foes thanks to its residual damage effect. Blizzard turns into Max Hailstorm to hit the ever-present Rillaboom and Venusaur hard. What makes Blastoise so unique, however, is its access to Yawn and its solid natural bulk outside of Gigantamax, allowing it to function as both a utility Pokemon that can threaten foes with sleep and a devastating attacker that slowly rips teams apart. The HP investment coupled with Wacan Berry allows Blastoise to comfortably stand up to common Electric-types like Regieleki and Zapdos, while the Speed investment lets it outrun uninvested Togekiss. Blastoise appreciates Pokemon that accommodate for its slower style of play such as Incineroar, Rillaboom, and Registeel, which can either pivot around to support Blastoise or become threatening offensive forces when positioned properly.

If you would like to try Blastoise out for yourself, give this team made by PinkSylvie a try! https://pokepast.es/6b6695b9aa736784

Blastoise has slowly risen in usage as one of VGC's best bulky Waters Water-types. It flooded the standings during the Players Cup IV regional qualifiers, where Blastoise it had six top cut appearances. This is largely thanks to Blastoise's G-Max Cannonade,(RC) based off of Hydro Cannon for maximum offensive damage output, a powerful attack that wears down foes thanks to its residual damage effect. Blizzard complements its Water coverage well by hitting turns into Max Hailstorm to hit the ever-present Rillaboom and Venusaur hard with Max Hailstorm. What makes Blastoise so unique, however, is its access to Yawn and its solid natural bulk outside of Gigantamax, allowing it to function as both a utility Pokemon that can threaten foes with sleep and a devastating attacker that slowly rips teams apart. The large amount of bulk HP investment coupled with Wacan Berry allows Blastoise to comfortably stand up to common Electric-types like Regieleki and Zapdos, while the Speed investment lets it outrun uninvested Togekiss. Blastoise appreciates Pokemon that accommodate for its slower style of play such as Incineroar, Rillaboom, and Registeel, which can either pivot around to support Blastoise or become threatening offensive forces when positioned properly.
