I got into VGC not so long ago, and I must admit it's pretty fun and super competitive. After some experiments and research, I finally made a team that works well (at least for me). I've built this team around Mega-Sableye. Plz rate I fan :)
First Pokemon - Sableye
Starlight (Sableye) @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Fake Out
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Foul Play
Ever since I learnt that turn order is decided before Mega Evolution, I thought about taking advantage of Sableye's Prankster when Mega Evolving. Having only 1 weakness 3 immunities and sky high Def, this thing can take physical hits like nobody's business. Crippling physical sweepers is its main role, while having Fake Out can stop the opponent from setting up and stall huge threats. It can wait to Mega Evolve saving the Prankster priority, but becomes huge Taunt bait without Magic Bounce. In case of Taunt happening, Foul Play is there. You can use Recover when Sableye gets too low and it gets risky. Impish nature to boost Def even more.
True Story: One battle, I was left with Mega Sableye versus a Life Orb Talonflame and a Mega Swampert. Mega Sableye burned the Swampert while tanking hits like a boss from both foes. Talonflame eventually died from recoil and Swampert died from burn after a few Sableye Recovers.
Second Pokemon - Milotic
Aquarin (Milotic) @ Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Icy Wind
- Recover
- Protect
TBH, I got this pokemon from watching ShadyPenguinn (shoutout to you !). Being really tanky with decent offensive prowess, it's actually pretty amazing. I needed a Water type and an Intimidate counter which Milotic is perfect for. I'm still debating for Scald or Surf or Hydro Pump, Scald being reliable but weaker, Surf being strong and reliable but it hits allies at the same time, Hydro Pump being the strongest but less reliable. Icy Wind is a must for Milotic because it slows opponents down while dealing tons of damage after the competitive boost. Recover can be used when Milotic has the chance to use it and Protect for Fake Outs and Leftover heals. The EV spread is for Milotic to deal decent damage while having more bulk. Calm nature for those special Electric and Grass moves.
True Story: After Competitive boost, Milotic ultra rekt 3 pokemon on the other team with some support from Sableye.
Third Pokemon - Talonflame
Bravest Bird (Talonflame) @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Protect
I know Talonflame is pretty cheatsy and a bit broken, but that's why it's so great. Since I don't have a revenge killer, Talonflame is always the best choice. Being fully invested in Atk, it honestly destroys everything that is weak to Brave Bird no matter what. Plus Choice Band, its Atk is boosted to sky high levels devestating the other team easily. Only bad side is getting easily RKOed by any super effective move or any neutral move for that matter. Being choiced lock is also bad as Talonflame has to switch out and cause damage to other allies. Leading Talonflame first turn can prove to be useful as U-turn will come in and deal extra damage to a foe while OHKOing some really weak pokemon. Protect is complimentary as getting Fake Outed then getting Rock Slided will result in a perfect KO for Talonflame, although it means Talonflame will have to switch out.
Fourth Pokemon - Lilligant
Rafflesia (Lilligant) (F) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Teeter Dance
- Petal Dance
- Quiver Dance
- Hidden Power [Rock]
Lilligant was the replacement for Contrary Serperior after I've used it and found out that it gets shut out by Protect and Fake Out. Lilligant is actually a really good Grass type for my team after I've got used to it. Teeter Dance is needed for Lilligant to set up with Quiver Dance later, which prepares Lilligant to sweep although it does confuse your ally too. This pokemon relies alot on RNG though, Petal Dance hits a RANDOM foe while hoping foes doesn't break through confusion. After one or two Quiver Dances, Lilligant can outspeed unscarfed pokemon and destroy its weaknesses with Hidden Power [Rock]. Own Tempo is the only ability needed as using Petal Dance will not confuse itself. Lum for status moves that may stop the sweep or Sitrus for extended longevity. It doesn't need a Timid nature as it does outspeed most pokemon after a Quiver Dance.
Fifth Pokemon - Mienshao
Chopsticks (Mienshao) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Rock Slide
- Quick Guard
Mienshao is always overlooked. Inner Focus, Fake Out, High Atk and Spe, these are really helpful for VGC. Having 2 Fake Outers on the team is amazing as it stops any set up chances and supports allies. High Jump Kick is a powerful STAB move that is killer to any pokemon that does not resist it. Rock Slide for those flying types that does not outspeed Mienshao. Mienshao hits really hard with High Jump Kick, a fully invested Def Rotom-Wash will get 2HKOed by Mienshao's High Jump Kick. High Jump Kick may be good, but missing will most probably cause the death of Mienshao. Quick Guard is chosen for protecting the team from priority killers like Gale Wings Brave Bird, Fake Out and such. Inner Focus is really helpful because not many people bother to check the abilities on Mienshao, causing the opponent using Fake Out on Mienshao which doesn't flinch it. I used Life Orb because I need Mienshao to deal more damage while not getting choice locked.
Sixth Pokemon - Magnezone
Magnet Man (Magnezone) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Thunder
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
The only thing missing from my team is an Electric type. At first, I used Jolteon, but then I realized I didn't have any pokemon to counter Fairy types. So, Magnezone is the perfect pokemon for the role. With a Timid nature and full investment in Spe and Choice Scarf, it can outspeed quite a few pokemon. Since it outspeeds, its high SpA does put in work for the team, Magnet Pulling any Steel type pokemon to oblivion. Having Flash Cannon counters Fairy types while Thunderbolt serves as a reliable STAB move. Why Thunder ? Well, when the opponent decides to use a rain team, Thunder comes in hard. Hidden Power [Fire] supports Magnet Pull and checks other Steel types and weak Bug, Grass and Ice types.
True Story: Magnezone decimated a whole rain team until Swampert came in.
I thank you for taking your time to read all of this, and I hope you can take another part of your time to rate it. Thx, any feedback is really appreciated. Plz rate I fan :)
