With a massive Attack stat and access to a powerful spread move in Precipice Blades, Groudon is truly a titan in the VGC 2022 metagame. Drought allows it to enable two Pokemon that benefit from the sun, Charizard and Venusaur; the former improves Groudon's matchup against Calyrex-I and Ferrothorn and provides Speed boosts with Max Airstream, while the latter threatens Water-types like Kyogre thanks to Chlorophyll doubling its Speed. In return, Groudon deals with Thundurus and Regieleki for Charizard and pressures Fire-types like Incineroar and Rotom-H for Venusaur. Stone Edge is a strong alternative to Rock Slide on Groudon variants that do not want to Dynamax, as it 2HKOes a Dynamaxed Thundurus. Fire Punch allows for massive damage in sun, 2HKOing Amoonguss and cleanly OHKOing Kartana even when it is Dynamaxed. Heavy Slam OHKOes Grimmsnarl through Reflect and lets Groudon boost its Defense against Zacian-C with Max Steelspike. Alternatively, Shadow Claw allows Groudon to OHKO Calyrex-S. Ersteres verbessert Groudons Matchup gegen Calyrex-I und Ferrothorn und stellt mit Max Airstream Initiativboosts zur Verfügung, während Venusaur dank der verdoppelten Initiative mit Chlorophyll Wasser-Pokémon wie Kyogre bedroht. Im Gegenzug dafür kümmert sich Groudon um Thundurus und Regieleki für Charizard und setzt Feuer-Pokémon wie Incineroar und Rotom-H für Venusaur unter Druck. Stone Edge ist eine starke Alternative zu Rock Slide für Groudon-Varianten die nicht dynamaxen möchten, da es dynamaxed Thundurus 2HKOed. Fire Punch erlaubt es massiven Schaden in der Sonne auszuteilenund 2HKOed Amoonguss und OHKOed Kartana, selbst wenn dieses dynamaxed ist.
