Hey guys! Haven't posted a team in a while, so thought I'd share a VGC team I've been using lately. It's a pretty fun team that uses a lot of Pokemon I think I good at countering popular Pokemon in the metagame right now, but be sure to let me know what you think after the explanation.
Pinsir @ Pinsirite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- Feint
- Close Combat
- Protect
Pinsir is the Mega Evolution of the team, and it's great for taking down annoying bulky threats like Venusaur, Amoongus and Ludicolo. Pinsir also has Close Combat for Mega Kang and Ferrothorn, while Feint is nifty to counter Protect. It's also a safe lead against Intimidate, thanks to Hyper Cutter.
Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Protect
Life Orb Garchomp is used here as it combos well with Pinsir, and most players prepare for Lum Berry or Focus Sash Garchomp so Life Orb is a nasty surprise. Otherwise pretty standard set. Dragon Claw and Earthquake for STAB, Rock Slide for additional coverage and flinch potential and Protect for obvious reasons.
Weavile @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ice Punch
- Knock Off
- Fake Out
- Low Kick
Weavile is a great Pokemon in the meta at the moment, as most teams I've seen used in Regionals can be tore up by Weavile. Ice Punch and Knock Off provide good STAB options (sorry, Icicle Crash has missed 1 too many times for me to trust it again) Fake Out can stall a turn and Low Kick provides additional Steel type coverage.
Suicune @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 244 HP / 180 Def / 8 SpA / 76 SpD
Bold Nature
- Tailwind
- Scald
- Protect
- Snarl
This is a Suicune set from a previous team I made, and it works well here too. The investment prevents Mega Kangaskhan from 2HKOing you with Double Edge, while rest is put in Special Defense as this Suicune has a more supportive role for the team. Tailwind provides Speed control, Scald is for STAB and Burns, Protect is a staple and Snarl can cripple Special Attackers.
Rotom-Mow @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 20 HP / 252 SpA / 236 Spe
Modest Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Thunderbolt
- Trick
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Speaking of Suicune, this team has a difficult time against bulky Water type Pokemon if not for Rotom. This set is able to out speed Jolly Mega Tyranitar with the rest put into Special Attack in HP for additional power in bulk. Thanks to Specs, Rotom can OHKO bulky Water types most of the time (252HP/252SpD+ Suicune has a 3% chance to survive) with Leaf Storm. Thunderbolt provides another solid STAB move, Trick can cripple support Pokemon, and Hidden Power Fire can hit Steel types hard.
Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 92 Def / 164 SpA
Modest Nature
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Heat Wave
- Flash Cannon
Finally is Heatran, which is this teams Fairy killer. The investment allows Heatran to survive an 252Atk+ Landorus-T Earthquake and KO back with Hidden Power Ice. Protect is staple, Hidden Power Ice as said is for Lando-T, while Heat Wave and Flash cannon provide good STAB options.
What do you guys think? Thanks for reading and as always I'll leave an importable version of the team down below! :]
