Vgc rmt, first time ever

Hi, I'm kinda new to this but I have a tournament in a few weeks so I thought I would come get some ideas, I'll post the team then my reasons afterwards, (because it's a first draft anything can change.)(the strategy is also up for debate but for now it sorta my own)

My only rules are no talonflame or mega kangaskhan, (that to me is like giving up as I got bored of them...)

Edit: just seen 3 line rule for each pokemon, will add when i can but on mobile so may take till end of day (and wow, 3 lines on here is like a 2 screen paragraph on my phone, :P)

Politoed @ Leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
Level: 50
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Encore
- Ice Beam
- Protect

Politoed has 2 jobs, keep drizzle up, and finish the match, with drizzle at the start he reduces scizors main weakness to 2x, so he has alot more leniancy, encore is to trap set up pokemon like prankster meowstic or klefki, often leading to scizor pursuit for heavy damage, encore protect is my usual finish with politoed, waste the last of their PP and finish them off
with bulk to help stay alive in this process

Scizor @ Lum Berry
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Protect
- Swords Dance

My main pokemon on the team, i have said for many generations i am going to use him but this time i have decided to jump in and try use him as an offensive lead, pursuit is to trap ghosts that are very common nowadays, bullet punch is obvious, although i wish i could fit roost in here, protect is for earthquake which is still going to hurt like crazy. EVs are fox max bulk, to try and have some staying power on the board

Lucario @ Lucarionite
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch
- Protect
- Earthquake

Mega lucario is a beast, plain and simple, and by far may favourite mega, i am debating physical or special but for first draft have gone physical just for earthquake, it covers alot of ground that scizor may not, he may be changed for mega mawile, but then i lose earthquake :( close combat is to wreck, and protect to alternate with scizor to lure opponents into traps, and to throw fighting opponents off my switch turns

Florges (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 SDef / 248 HP / 8 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Wish
- Moonblast
- Substitute

Out and out cleric, moonblast will still 2hko dragons and 1hko scrafty if he does show up, wish lets me switch into a steel that needs health or politoed aromatherapy is on for status teams like dark void smeargle, or t wave chansey/klefki or politoed getting poisoned, as well as burns which will slow my team down alot otherwise and lose sweeping potential, wish has the secondary effect of keeping politoed alive in a weather war

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Ice Beam

just for coverage, unfortunately very weak to priority, dont get me wrong, starmie does its job well, its fast, covers most weaknesses of the steel type, and rapid spin for the very rare hazard setter, i am just looking for an alternative but for now, this pokemon does its job, so if it isnt broken dont fix it, (unless it makes it better :p) physhock for fighting, surf for fire, ice beam for the flyers that have typings that get around my steel duo as well as ground types, or to 1hko gliscor, quite often i will lose scizor or lucario on the bench for this, it is an excellent place hitter

Salamence @ Assault Vest
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Hasty Nature
- Aerial Ace
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang

My kick ass dragon, the theory here is, ice is the main weakness, with 2 bullet punchers that is covered, moxie to increase attack from fainted with draco meteor for dragon coverage thats going to hurt and not affect the movepool, aerial ace is to hit minimizers as i can imagine a few at this tournament, drifblim minimize is my main focus of this, with driftblimbeing kalos dex i have to plan for this strategy,

So my basic strategy is start politoed and then a steel type, (mainly scizor) with lucario and another at the back, then fire is weakened for scizor and the 2 can just do damage and politoed finishes up, rapid spin is for the very rare occasion there's entry hazards. Florges is mainly tank cleric.
Salamance was just to have a kick ass dragon, but am debating switching him for haxorus or garchomp, with aerial ace for minimisers and double teamers

Lucario has inner focus to stop first tub mega kangaskhan, but may swap for mega mawile

Your team looks good overall but I don't see answer to Talonflame except Politoed so I recommend you run Rock Slide over Earthquake on Lucario.
You could also simply use Garchomp who can live a Brave Bird and OHKO with Rock Slide.
Choice Banded Talonflame can OHKO or have a good chance to OHKO most of you team even in rain:

252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0- Def Salamence: 286-337 (86.4 - 101.8%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Scizor in Rain: 220-264 (124.2 - 149.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Lucario: 150-177 (103.4 - 122%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 129-153 (95.5 - 113.3%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

Annoying Grass types like Venusaur and Amoonguss can also be a problem since they resist most of your attacks and can survive any super effective hit you have. I like Florges so I'm just going to use it to help solve the problem. With enough Special Attack EVs Florges can OHKO 4 HP Salamence, survive an Adamant max Attack Return from Mega Kangaskhan, and be able to KO these Grass types with only one Calm Mind. For that reason I suggest you change your Florges set to this:

Florges @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SAtk
Modest Nature
Moonblast/Psychic/Calm Mind/Protect

Hope this helped you and feel free to ask for any more advice if you decide on a team change or something.

Thanks I'm going to try that now, do you have any idea what I can switch politoed's item to? I'm drawing blanks, expert belt is just a placeholder on it while I test

Damn vgc and it's no dupe items...

Through trying this variant I have decided I may need something bulky with grass and earth moves... Will research later

Debating switching my dragon for chesnaught and starmie for ludicolo, kingdra or protean greninja

Testing impish chesnaught, 252 hp , 100 attack and 156 defence with rock slide, seed bomb, earthquake and hammer arm, assault vest till I think of a better item or move set

I would recommend a Sitrus Berry for you Politoed to keep it alive for an extra turn or two. Also I recommend this set for Chesnaught:

Chesnaught @ Expert Belt
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Atk / 4 Def / 60 SDef / 48 Spd
Adamant Nature
Hammer Arm/Taunt/Spiky Shield/Wood Hammer

With this spread it can survive a Fake Out/Return combo from Mega Kanga and KO it the next turn with an Expert Belt boosted Hammer Arm. The SDef EVs let it survive an Overheat from Charizard-Y as long as there is rain up so Politoed is needed here. The remaining Speed EVs let it at least speed tie with uninvested Scizor/Tyranitar.

While looking at your team, i can see that you've built it like a single's team; lets adjust it a bit to fight against the meta of doubles.
First, A wish passer is simply not effective in doubles, you should opt for a more offensive fairy type such as Choice Band Azumarill as its typing generally does the same thing, such as taking dragon moves and/or resisting fighting attacks while giving you more offensive presence. It also has above average bulk to take hits for your team and can benefit from the rain by pulling out powerful boosted waterfalls and aqua jets. Secondly, hazards are extremely rare, and won't benefit you at all to run a spinner. You should run Rotom-Heat over Starmie as it can cripple physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp, and can gain momentum with volt-switch. Rotom-Heat also deals with the common charizard-y sun teams running rampant in VGCs. Depending on your item preference and how much you hate Venusaur and Sleep Powder, you can run either Sitrus Berry for longevity or Safety Goggles to be immune to powder moves. Lastly, Salamence is a pokemon that wants dish out powerful moves instead of taking hits. You should run the more meta-game fitting Choice Scarf Salamence over your Assault vest as it outspeeds the majority of the metagame and intimidate support helps semi-rain teams.

Also, these are just suggestions: You may want to run to run Aegislash over Scizor for a pursuit trapper as it boasts a better base attack and defense and can punish opponents if they attack into kings shield. Another suggestion is to run Ludicolo over Florges/Azumarill (if you took my suggestion) as Ludicolo provides fake out support to set up swords dance and abusing the rain set by politoed. You may want to run extreme speed over bullet punch, but its purely if you want to check fairies or out prioritize other pokemon.

All in all, a very solid team, Its getting late for me so if you need any sets that i have described here, PM me! Good luck on your team!

im actually going to try and implement all these, ill try keeping scizor over aegislash more for flavour than anything, and the azumarill/ludicolo argument is pounding my head haha :) rotom heat i know nothing about, so going to look stuff up, i have a 5IV timid spare but it seems thats not the way rotom heat plays out
