ORAS OU Victini volt-turn offense

Wallbreaker Victini + volt turn offense

I am really new to competitive Pokémon; I got into it through youtube (creds to joey, blunder and the heatah fajita gang) and I decided to try making an rmt so apologies for any mistakes or extremely amateur team building. I really appreciate any improvements or criticism you guys have to improve both the team and me, as a teambuilder.

I decided to build a team including victini, one of the most underrated yet ridiculously powerful wallbreakers of the tier. Here's a link to a battle from early testing on the lower ladder demonstrating why i love victini; the battle dragged on but... http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ou-312599926
I love its absolute power and thought a volt turn team would work well to try and bring it in safely and then fire off big hits. HO is definitely my favourite playstyle and I wanted to try and harness the power of victini so I thought why not give it a try...

Teambuilding Process

I began with Victini and added Manectric-M, one of my favourite megas to use on offense and forms an offensive volt turn core with Victini. Victini mauls stall and manectric does great vs offense so that grabbed my attention too.

I then brought in Latios who provides defog support for Victini and gives an answer to keldeo who can revenge kill Victini easily and threaten most things with draco. I just think Latios is a great mon to use on offense in general being a switch in, a revenge killer and a nuke all at the same time.

Next comes Azumarill, a very threatening attacker who helps with hippowdon and appreciates my first two mons ability to beat steel types and in return beats heatran and landorus-t. I was thinking about keldeo but I thought a fairy would be useful for dragons so I went with azu.

I added Landorus-t to take on excadrill and ttar whilst providing stealth rock support and keeping up momentum with u-turn.

The final slot took some deliberation; I was thinking weavile or talonflame but eventually decided on Serperior. Serperior beats bulky waters and grounds/rocks for victini and is a fantastic cleaner and win con.

The Team

Victini @ choice band
Ability: victory star
Evs: 252atk 252spe 4spd
Adamant nature
  • V create
  • Bolt strike
  • Brick break Zen Headbutt
  • U-turn
Standard evs with an adamant nature to maximise wall breaking capacities. V create is spammable, bolt strike hits slowbro and others, u turn for momentum and zen because keldeo and lando handle tran and ttar comfortably.

Victini with a choice band is pretty ridiculous. I try to bring him in with a volt-turn from lando or mane in order to fire off a big hit which wears down their team for my sweepers and cleaners to finish up.

Manectric-M @ manectite
Ability: lightning rod
Evs: 252spa 252spe 4def
Timid nature
  • Thunderbolt
  • Volt switch
  • Flamethrower
  • Hidden power (ice)
Very standard set yet very effective also. Solid coverage means it is often a great win con. Thunderbolt is main stab, volt switch for momentum and brings in victini well, flamethrower is coverage and hidden power ice hits lando and garchomp who give victini trouble.

Mane is very good at wearing down opponents in a different way to victini with its hit-and-run tactics. A decent revenge killer and a pain to most offense or balanced teams.

Latios @ life orb
Ability: levitate
Evs: 4hp 252spa 252spe
Timid nature
  • Draco meteor
  • Psyshock
  • Defog
  • Roost
The evs maximise and power and speed. Draco is main stab, psyshock avoids drops, defog for hazards and roost for longevity. I didn't think hp fire was necessary with victini and manectric.

Defogging is very useful because with the nature of volt-turning and victini my mons can get worn down easily. Is also a good switch in to keldeo as one of my only relatively defensive mons but keeps up momentum and pressure very well.
Evs tweaked as suggested by yuruu. Ty!

Replaced Azumarill with Keldeo
Keldeo @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
  • Substitute
  • Calm Mind
  • Scald
  • Secret Sword
Keldeo provides a check to bisharp and the sub calm mind set gives another win con, whilst having good synergy, with victini weaking venusaur and clef etc, whilst keldeo beats hippo, ttar and the like.

Scald and secret swords are reliable stabs and sub calm mind make it a threatening sweeper.
Suggested by BreloomMyHomie.

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock

Often a very good lead to set up rocks. Stealth rock is for support, eq edge is for coverage and damage and sd provides offensive pressure. Defensive ev spread makes it a reliable switch in to sand rush driller and deals better with talonflame.
Lando is now a defensive switch in, a stealth rock setter and an offensive threat. Very versatile and a great mon all round.
Set changed from earth plate offensive set to sd defensive by NotFalse. Thanks!

Replaced Serperior with Bisharp

Bisharp @ BlackGlasses / Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 52 SpD / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit

Bisharp deals with latios/as easily and helps vs regular and mega alakazam. It also gives me a dragon resist and a backup check to fairies.
Pursuit traps psychics and weakened mons, sucker for priority and knock off/iron head are main stabs.
Suggested by yuruu, set given by BreloomMyHomie. Thanks guys!

Conclusion
Thank you for reading this rmt, I really appreciate any criticisms or suggestions anyone has and will definitely look to improve the team. As an extremely amateur teambuilder, I didnt (and neither should you) have high expectations for this but I'm reasonably happy with the outcome and I hope you enjoy the team!

I personally think that your team would do better with Pursuit Bisharp over Serperior, which works very well on a Volt-Turn team, being able to punish defog, as well as trap Latias, which are used to switch into Victini fairly often. It also gives you a secondary check to Fairy types, as well as a bad check to the Dragon types. Lati is a huge problem for your team, and Bisharp could eliminate them as a recurrent issue.

Lum Berry Azumarill is fine, giving you a check to Mega Sableye and just generally slowing down burns, but I think that you could possibly run more speed on it. I would go for outspeeding uninvested base 70s like Skarmory, which also outspeeds Clefable, so you can wear it down more in a pinch. The spread is 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe. Latios should also just run max spA and spe, I do not know where you are going with increasing its bulk.

Cool team you have there. I like that you utilize Volt Turn core that consists of Mega Manectric and Victini. There are a couple of flaws with this team though. The build is certainly not slow, as you have Mega Manectric and Serperior, but their are some faster pokemon you have trouble dealing with as well as some other Pokemon.

Ok, the biggest threat to the team is Bisharp. With two Intimidate users, it's going to be hard not giving Bisharp a +1 Attack boost thanks to Defiant. Furthermore, you have 0 counterplay for Bisharp, as it has priority sucker punch to deal with Victini, Landorus, Manectric, and Latios. You're only hope of dealing with it is with Azumarill(healthy), or you predict Bisharp's sucker punch and set up a Substitute with Serperior. Even then, Hidden Power Fire/Ground isn't going to do too much. What you can do is Keldeo>Azumarill. Keldeo is a nice Bisharp check, and Sub+Calm Mind would give you an excellent sweeper, especially since you have Victini to weaken Keldeo's checks being Venusaur, Clefable, and Amoonguss.

After the Keldeo change, fast pokemon, specifically Mega Alakazam, become a huge conundrum. You have nothing that really wants to come in on a Shadow Ball or Psychic. Furthermore, you need a Dragon resist, so that's why I suggest Pursuit Bisharp>Serperior. Pursuit Bisharp isn't the best Dragon resist, but I chose Bisharp as opposed to Tyranitar, another Pursuit trapper, because I didn't want you to become too weak to Excadrill. With Pursuit Bisharp, you trap the Latis and kill them, which open the door for Victini to come and sweep. Pursuit Bisharp is also nice because you force opponent to play some mind games with Alakazam.

I like NotFalse's idea of Defensive SD Landorus-T because you are pretty weak to Sand Rush Excadrill, and Swords Dance would still allow you to put offensive pressure vs stuff like Mega Sableye and Clefable.

Zen Headbutt>Brick Break on Victini. I don't really see the point of Brick Break, since you have Keldeo and Landorus for Ttar. It lets you hit Venusaur for Super effective damage so Mega Manectric has an easier time vs your opponent's team.

Thanks for the replies guys, they all sound really cool and ill defo give them all a try! Pursuit bish is a definite, along with the keldeo-azu swap, i was thinking of swapping those two but didnt want to lose my dragon switch in - bisharp fixes that up phenomenally! I will also make lando-t defensive as suggested, and make the tweaks to sets you have suggested.

Thank you ever so much guys for your responses, i really appreciate it and will test these changes!
