Vileplume [QC 0/3]

Status
Not open for further replies.
[OVERVIEW]
  • Decent bulk allows Vileplume to be a good special or mixed tank
  • A great defensive typing of grass/poison lets Vileplume resist common moves and threats
  • Good special attack stat and decent coverage
  • Decent amount of status moves
  • Resistance to common statuses like poison and sleep
  • Vileplume is slow, so don't use it if you are looking for a fast grass or poison type

[SET]
Name: Bulky Special Sweeper
Move 1: Giga Drain
Move 2: Sludge Bomb
Move 3: HP Ground
Move 4: Moonblast/Synthesis
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Effect Spore
Nature: Modest
EVs: 248 HP/ 252 SpA/ 8 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Giga Drain is a reliable stab move that gives Vileplume back HP it may lose from life orb damage
  • Sludge Bomb is a powerful stab attack that may poison and weaken other grass types
  • HP Ground covers steel, poison, and fire types, something Vileplume often struggles with
  • Moonblast is for good coverage against dark, fighting, and rare dragon types
  • Synthesis lets Vileplume recover HP without losing health from Life Orb

Set Details
========
  • Life Orb combined with max special attack EVs and a modest nature lets Vileplume hit like a truck doing massive damage with STAB Giga Drain or Sludge Bomb
  • Effect Spore gives Vileplume a chance to inflict status since this Vileplume set does not utilize status moves
  • 248 HP and 8SpD EVs are placed for extra bulk since Vileplumes speed is so slow, that it's not worth investing EVs into it

Usage Tips
========
  • Vileplume is best used when it can take a hit, or on a free switch
  • Use STAB Giga Drain and Sludge Bomb as well as HP Ground or Moonblast effectively
  • Synthesis when you need to recover HP
  • Switch out if you feel you need to

Team Options
========
  • Since Vileplume is slow, a trick room partner like Musharna could be valuable if you want to speed up Vileplume
  • Vileplume struggles against special walls so make sure you have physical attackers
  • Since Vileplume doesn't get any valuable boost moves, a baton passer could be useful for giving Vileplume that extra special attack boost

[SET]
Name: Specially Defensive
Move 1: Giga Drain
Move 2: Synthesis
Move 3: Leech Seed
Move 4: Sleep Powder/Toxic
Item: Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP/ 4 SpA/ 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Giga Drain lets Vileplume recover HP while also doing a chunk of damage
  • Synthesis lets Vileplume recover more HP when its health is low
  • Leech Seed lets you get residual damage on Pokemon that takes little from Giga Drain
  • Sleep powder lets you put foes to sleep, which lets you set up a leech seed, or recover HP
  • Toxic can be used for more residual coverage though it isn't as needed if you have leech seed
  • Sludge Bomb can be placed into this set for more damage, but having those status moves can prove to be more beneficial

Set Details
========
  • Black Sludge gives Vileplume residual recovery in addition to leech seed and synthesis
  • Effect spore can provide a status that Vileplume may not have in its arsenal
  • Calm nature in addition to max HP and SpD lets Vileplume become a huge special tank
  • 4 SpA EVs are there to allow Vileplume to do slightly more damage with Giga Drain

Usage Tips
========
  • Send Vileplume in when you think it can take a hit
  • Use Giga Drain and Synthesis to recover HP when needed
  • Use leech seed and sleep powder/ toxic when you need to widdle down your opponent
  • Switch out when needed

Team Options
========
  • This Vileplume struggles against steel types so fire or fighting types can be really useful
  • This Vileplume also can't really do damage to other grass types so Pokemon who can deal with those grass types can prove effective

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • A physical Vileplume set consisting of Swords Dance, Petal Blizzard, Drain Punch, and Synthesis could be used, but is outclassed by the Specially Offensive set since Vileplumes physical attack is only 80
  • Aromatherapy can be used if you need a status clearer
  • HP Fire can be used against other Vileplume, or bug types if you need coverage against them

Checks and Counters
===================
  • Steel Types- Even with HP Ground, most steel types can live a hit and either set up, or do damage that Vileplume would not appreciate
  • Other Vileplume- Other Vileplume or other grass/poison types can resist Vileplumes coverage barring HP Fire, and Vileplumes status moves

Sorry, but I have to reassign this due to the multitude of mistakes and errors present here which show lack of metagame knowledge.

First of all, there is only once instance where you mention a specific NU Pokemon instead of just giving a general description of that point, which is a major issue.

Both of your sets have issues, the offensive set should not be first nor should Moonblast be mentioned at all anywhere, OO if anything. I don't really know why you'd run Vileplume without Synthesis, that move is absolutely essential on both Vileplume sets. The fact that you chose Specially Defensive over Physically Defensive shows me that you clearly have not played this tier, you simply just clicked the recommended spread in the teambuilder. Roselia is a superior choice as a specially defensive Grass type, and investing in Vileplume's physical defense is much more beneficial to check threats such as Samurott and Rhydon. In addition, Leech Seed is illegal with Effect Spore, which also shows me that you haven't even tested these sets in a battle. Toxic is a useless move on Vileplume, it has essentially no benefits over another utility or coverage move and it seems you just put that there as filler.

Your usage tips are extremely lacking and generic, as they barely tell me what to do with Vileplume, you're basically stating the obvious with stuff like "Switch out if you feel you need to".

Checks and Counters are in the incorrect formatting and there is so much missing from there I don't even know where to start.

For starters, please play and learn the tier by utilizing the resources in the Neverused forum or hanging out in the PS! NU room. Afterwards, be sure to read this guide on writing NU analyses if you'd like to give this another go.

Have a nice day.
