name: Physically Defensive
move 1: Sludge Bomb
move 2: Giga Drain
move 3: Strength Sap
move 4: Growth / Sleep Powder
item: Black Sludge
ability: Effect Spore
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe

RarelyUsed's premier defensive Grass-type provides near-unmatched utility to teams with an incredible defensive typing that allows it to handle many of RU's biggest offensive and defensive threats, like Passimian, Rillaboom, Steelix, and Jellicent. Growth is the preferred fourth move to leverage Vileplume's good STAB combination in tandem with excellent bulk to become a late-game wincon or exert more offensive pressure mid-game against targets like Scrafty and Snorlax. Sleep Powder can be chosen instead to incapacitate one of Vileplume's counters as it switches in. 96 Speed EVs allow Vileplume to outspeed maximum Speed Adamant Copperajah and use Strength Sap on it to avoid an OHKO from Choice Band Heat Crash. Effect Spore adds even more pressure on contact attackers attempting to break through Vileplume. Moonlight can be used in place of Strength Sap to provide consistent healing not blocked by Xatu or Sap Sipper Drampa, but that gives up the ability to weaken physical attackers. An alternate spread of 252 SpA / 252 Spe with Chlorophyll, a Timid nature, a Life Orb, and Giga Drain swapped out for Solar Beam can be used alongside Ninetales as a sun sweeper; however, this set lacks much of Vileplume's traditional defensive utility, making it hard to justify even if being used alongside Ninetales.

Jellicent makes for an excellent partner with Vileplume; it easily beats back Fire-types that threaten Vileplume like Salazzle and Charizard, and in return, Vileplume can cover Jellicent's weakness to Grass-types and force prediction from physical attackers relying on super-effective coverage to break through one or the other. Dark- and Steel-types like Scrafty, Copperajah, and Steelix can take on Indeedee and other Psychic-types, though be warned that stacking up on Fire-weak Pokemon can lead to more difficulties in handling them. Vileplume also appreciates Fire-type teammates such as Ninetales, Charizard, and Salazzle taking on Steel-types like Escavalier and Silvally-Steel, which can use Vileplume as setup fodder.

RarelyUsed's premier defensive Grass-type provides near-unmatched utility to teams with its incredible defensive typing, allowing it to punish many of RU's biggest offensive and defensive threats, like Passimian, Rillaboom, Steelix, and Jellicent. Growth is the preferred fourth move as it allows for Vileplume to leverage its good STAB combination in tandem with excellent bulk to become a late-game wincon or exert more offensive pressure in the midgame. mention what growth can come in clutch for explicitly like snorlax Sleep Powder can be chosen instead to incapacitate one of Vileplume's counters as it switches in. 96 Speed EVs allow Vileplume to outspeed max Speed Adamant Copperajah and use Strength Sap on it to avoid the OHKO from Choice Band Heat Crash. Effect Spore adds even more pressure to contact attackers attempting to break through Vileplume, as even if they severely damage it or knock it out, they can be affected with a status condition that cripples them for the remainder of the match. in the midsection of this sentence it makes it sound like vileplume needs to take considerable damage for effect spore to work; just simplify it down a bit for clarity Moonlight can be used in place of Strength Sap to provide consistent healing not blocked by Xatu or Sap Sipper Drampa, but gives up the ability to weaken physical attackers that Strength Sap provides. An alternate spread of 252 SpA / 252 Spe with Chlorophyll, a Timid nature, a Life Orb, and Giga Drain swapped out for Solar Beam can be used alongside Ninetales as a sun sweeper, however, this set lacks much of Vileplume's traditional defensive utility, making it hard to justify even if being used alongside Ninetales.

Jellicent makes for an excellent partner with Vileplume, as they cover each other's weaknesses quite well, with Jellicent able to easily beat back Fire-types like Salazzle and Charizard that threaten Vileplume, and in return, Vileplume can cover Jellicent's weakness to Grass-types and force prediction mindgames with physical attackers relying on super-effective coverage to break through one or the other. Dark- and Steel-types like Scrafty, Copperajah, and Steelix that can take on Indeedee and other Psychic-types are also great teammates, though be warned that stacking up on Fire-weak Pokemon can lead to more difficulties in handling them. Vileplume also appreciates Fire-type teammates such as Ninetales, Charizard, and Salazzle taking on Steel-types like Escavalier and Silvally-Steel that can use Vileplume as setup fodder.
