[OVERVIEW]
Bug
=========
Vivillon is a rather niche option but manages to play a supporting role for Bug's hyper offensive assailants like Kleavor, Lokix, and Volcarona thanks to options in Sleep Powder and Stun Spore in status, and Tailwind. Focus Sash is imperative for Vivillon's 2HP lifespan to allow Vivillon to either: accept trades with a powerful Hurricane-STAB to withstand a hit and revenge kill the likes of Galarian Zapdos and Ogerpn-W, or inflicting threats that it can't consistently beat with status ailments like Archaludon, Hisuian Goodra, and Iron Hands. Vivillon's overall utility in status and a consistent ability in Compound Eyes to wellround accuracy of moves makes it a mediocre option to consider. This notably allows Vivillon to be more on target with landing status in comparison to other inducers like Stun Spore Ribombee or the unviable Venomoth. With a Timid nature, Vivillon has enough speed to outpace standard Jolly or Timid threats like Hoopa-U, Excadrill, Great Tusk, and Hisiuan Samurott.

Vivillon @ Focus Sash
name: Sleep Powder Utility (Bug)
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Sleep Powder
- Stun Spore / Giga Drain / Energy Ball
- Tailwind
[SET COMMENTS]
Hurricane is Vivillon's best STAB option which OHKOes Fighting-, Grass-, and Bug-types like Keldeo, Sinistcha after chip, and Lokix. Sleep Powder is a mandatory option that can be useful against Pokemon like Heatran, Excadrill, Great Tusk, and Toxapex. Futhermore, Sleep Powder also empowers future uses of Stun Spore anticipating opposing swaps after putting a foe to sleep and targeting similar targets in vein to Sleep Powder. Tailwind maximizes value for Vivillon and its teammates in conjunction with status sequences against Bug, Grass, and Fighting teams with Hurricane, and can also support the aforementioned offensive teammates in further complicating matchups like Fire with Kleavor, Ghost with Lokix, and Ground with Volcarona as each type has its tools in sun, Flutter Mane, and Excadrill in sand, respectively; to potentially overwhelm Bug's affixed structures, opening niches in other sequences. Alternatively, Grass coverage in the likes of Giga Drain recovery or Energy Ball can be used over Stun Spore to target Ground-, Water-, and Rock-types like Gastrodon, Quagsire, Dondozo, and Rhyperior. Focus Sash is imperative to consistently survive an attack to retaliate with Hurricanes or status from opposing threats that otherwise OHKOes Vivillon without it like Flutter Mane, the Ogerpon-formes, and Choice Band Sneasler.
Due to its short life span, Vivillon is best used on more offensive structures or earlier in in gameplay to avoid disrupting value of Focus Sash from longterm Stealth Rock. Nearly most of Vivillon's teammates appreciates its status support considering Bug's frail longevity, thus enabling offensive teammates like Lokix, Scizor, Slither Wing, and Volcarona; all dealing with Steel-types like Archaludon, Gholdengo, and Hisuian Goodra whereas Vivillon cannot defeat on its own. Tailwind directly helps these aforementioned teammates invidually against respective matchups like Lokix outpacing Will-O-Wisp Spectrier and Flutter Mane and Slither Wing to outspeed Choice Scarf Heatran and Excadrill; respectively in the Ghost and Steel matchups in these examples. Lokix is an amazing wallbreaker notably improving the Ghost matchup, and appreciates Vivillon's ability to spread sleep or paralysis on defensive Pokemon that can check Lokix otherwise such as Toxapex or Skarmory; and against offensive Pokemon like Barraskewda, Iron Moth, and Raging Bolt, whereas Vivillon's trade's its Focus Sash to inflict status for opportunities for teammates to setup. Scizor is an important teammate that checks Fairy-, Rock-, and Ice-types with Bullet Punch that otherwise checks Vivillon such as Flutter Mane, Iron Boulder, and Triple Axel Weavile. Fighting-types in Guts Heracross and Slither Wing are considerably teammates as the former can wallbreak defensive Pokemon like Alomolamola and Skarmory and the latter notably having Flare Blitz for Steel-types like Skarmory and Forretress and momentum in U-turn to bring in Vivillon. Defensive teammates such as Araquanid and Forretress aren’t the best beneficiaries of Tailwind, however, still individually can provide value for Vivillon through respective utilities. Araquanid makes a great supporting partner adversely thanks to Sticky Web benefiting Vivillon in its personal goals to perform well in respective Bug and Fighting matchups by unleashing powerful Liquidations to check Fire- and Ground-types such as Volcarona and Gliscor. Forretress can provide entry hazard support in Stealth Rocks and Spikes but more importantly, Rapid Spin which synergizes well with sustaining Focus Sash to remove Stealth Rocks for Vivillon as its dependent on it to maximize value. Galvantula iis a considerable teammate to give a slight edge in matchups like Water and Flying thanks to Electric coverage and Energy Ball checking nuisances like Empoleon, Pelipper, and Swampert, respectively.
